  1. I know the desert dogs on a whole were awful, but nonetheless, Dahlin looks better than Oliver Ekman-Larsson did at this age. Franchise defenseman projection confirmed.
  2. It's in the league's interest to have Seattle start in 2020-21, in order to establish the massive TV ratings for the next TV contract negotiations (that new contract would start in 2021-22). The Seattle mayor and the ownership said the other day that they think the arena can be done before 2020-21. https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/seattle-center-arena-will-be-ready-for-nhl-team-in-2020-seattle-mayor-says/617889847
  3. Troof. The ballot on mobile is laid out wonky, and I got crossed up.
  4. Remember that voting only cements a captain for each division. The captain picks nothing, and the league picks the rest. So any fan picks will only be one per division. John Scott was voted in as a captain. Each team consists of about six forwards, three defensemen, and two goalies. They gave the host market four roster spots last year (Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, and Vasilevsky), which was similar to previous years. This year, it's in SJ, so expect Pavelski, Burns, and Karlsson, at least, and maybe Martin Jones; all of them have been before. In the Northeast Division, no players have made it each of the three years of this format and are still in the Northeast Division (Karlsson's been in every year). Three players have made it each of the past two years and are still around: Marchand, Matthews, Price. The only Sabres involved in the newer format have been O'Reilly, Okposo, and Eichel. It's super unlikely that a Sabre is fan-voted as captain in the same voting group as Ovechkin and Crosby and Stamkos. Eichel could likely be NHL-selected again, but Skinner also makes a compelling case. As of this post, Eichel is 12th in points (6th in NE) and Skinner is 2nd in goals (1st in NE). With 9 skating spots and 8 teams in the division, I highly doubt we get both, but it'd be fun to watch. Dahlin won't likely be selected over other D. Ristolainen has a slim chance over some other D, but isn't as solid of selection as Eichel or Skinner in the big picture.
  5. Wonder if Pommers got concussed on that boarding.
  6. Depth is a weakness. One of the ways this team falls apart is to incur simultaneous injuries to two of Ristolainen/Bogosian/Scandella/McCabe, as this forces playing two of Hunwick/Tennyson/Pilut and pushes Beaulieu and/or Nelson into 2nd pair minutes in pairings that aren't likely to be good. Another way this team falls apart is to incur injuries to either Eichel or Skinner, or two of Sheary/Mittelstadt/Reinhart/Pominville. Then, Remi Elie and maybe another call up are in full time and/or you ask, say, Sheary (0.98 G/60) to replace Skinner (2.47 G/60) or Reinhart? (2.44P/60) to replace Eichel (3.47P/60). Organizationally, this is something we need to be able to overcome to be a perennial contender, but I don't think we have that yet.
  7. And they wouldn't have as good cellys.
  8. I think to help SDS accomplish his vision, we should now list any and all variations on all profane words so that the filter list can be expanded. I'll start. ***** piss ***** ***** ***** ***** tits
  9. I love that we have a W10 streak and this is the rowdiest thread right now. Let's turn it up to 11. SDS big government conspiracy to coddle the snowflake libs by censoring hardworking content creators of SabresNation, actualized as black flag bans by nfreeman. Chemtrails.
  10. Very respectfully, no thank you. None of us here who are profane or vulgar are obscene. It used to, until we all realized nobody knew what the ***** we were saying.
  11. I started the thread with the ***** title to fish out haters that were knee-jerking to the ROR trade. As of July, Botts was never going to be fired this past summer or, likely, this year. And that was solidified with the Skinner trade a month later. And then poured into concrete with this streak. At this particular moment, he's looking more like GM of the Year, with potential Jack Adams, President's, Calder, and Richard winners with him.
  12. That's what the ***** I'm ***** talking about.
  13. Note that SDS isn't asking for fewer asterisks, only that people not intentionally or unintentionally subvert the filters. I agree with consensus that the asterisks aren't really targeted at each other, which is nice. You do you, ladylike or not.
  14. It's this. Except you're holding the microscope. And he doesn't know you're holding the microscope, which means that it's all in how you've perceived the game he was playing. He was and is our best defensman. Pondering a trade, this thread was never going to age well. Nonetheless, I want you to know I never bumped it.
  15. LET THE BOY WATCH. He needs to learn, the way I learned, from my father. The way he learned from his father.
  16. I've lived in a few different cities, and I've traveled to many more. There are sports fans in every city, and those cities widely vary in dedication and attention paid to their teams. There is no other city I've experienced that comes close to Buffalo in terms of how day-in-day-out fanatical and informed fans are of the Bills and Sabres. It's an environment and experience that transcends fandom. It's sincerely a religion. It's a church of spirituality. Now, some that don't worship the way Buffalo does, particularly those that never lived there, might criticize or look down on a region full of people that are that crazy about a for-profit circus run by the uber rich. They might even joke that we must have nothing better to do. But what they don't realize is how these two teams winning is internalized in ourselves and in our sense of community. When our teams win, we don't just experience a feeling of happiness or entertainment or a lame feeling of superiority over some other municipality. When the Buffalo Sabres or Buffalo Bills win, each of us recognize the immense positive impact it has on our community. When the teams win, a town full of hardworking people who fight their way day by day through weather and frustration and uneasy life are rewarded with a night of fellowship and peaceful sleep. The community is collectively tucked in under a warm blanket. We each recognize this. We don our blue and red or blue and gold frocks. And we kneel to pray, in mid-air, before our plastic folding altars. And we spread our religion with defaced signs on the 33. And we carry on our reverance to our children. Our desire to win is not fueled by selfishness. When we cheer to win, it's a cheer for the community. These teams represent a part of ourselves, our community, and our identity more than sports and entertainment business. These teams are part of our living breathing soul. A town brutally marred by economic slaughter, racial segregation, and the equivalent of meteorological fisting is given -not the answers to these problems- but blessed with an endless hope fueled by an irrevocable common faith that will one day overcome them. When I weep for victories of today and memories of victory past, I do so knowing the that the good people of Western New York are united and at peace, refreshed and refueled to take on the challenges of life together. ***** the Pats. ***** the Leafs.
  17. You've never seen me post, like, ever. What SDS is saying is that if you(we) ingrates are going to swear, use spellcheck so the filter can do its job.
  18. Say what you want about Jeff Skinner, but Rasmus Ristolainen is swinging around the biggest dick on this team.
  19. Potentially both games; this week and next.
  20. Jags lose the game, Ramsey puts foot in mouth, Fournette suspended, Jags OC Hackett fired, Bortles benched for Cody Kessler. Nutty.
