  1. I usually use Vollman's numbers, which are a year or two old: Olofsson (63 points in 66 AHL games) is about 37 points. Asplund (41 points in 75 AHL games) is about 21 points.
  2. NHL equivalency from Liiga to NHL is 0.43. Arttuututtu Ruotteewasalianenesnen's 42 points in 59 Liiga games could be about 25 points in 82 NHL games.
  3. Message boards allow pretty much any content to propagate (and the visibility of that content is enhanced by constant posting), up to the point active moderation occurs. Other platforms with user vote-based visibility would likely crush trolls like this. Incidentally, this is a downside of only enabling positive reactions on this message board, although content visibility would be unaffected: unless mods get involved, trolls don't get discouraged easily without lengthy arguments from many users, if at all.
  4. There are lots and lots of Sabres fan transplants in SoCal; it'll be easy to find us. The closest games to Pendleton will be Anaheim (Honda Center) and Los Angeles (Staples Center). The Sabres fans usually pregame at JT Schmid's across the street from the Honda Center and in/around an area known as LA Live around Staples Center. Note that all three west coast games (and sometimes PHX) are usually played in the same compacted road trip for the Sabres, so it's sometimes tricky to go catch them all. LA and Anaheim are almost always played as a back-to-back with SJ played two or three days away from those games. Depending on where you're living, don't discount taking the fam to an SD Gulls or Ontario Reign game. If you or the wife like wine, there's no excuse not to do a weekend around Temecula. If you're a science nerd, beyond all the museums and zoos in town in LA and SD, go check out the Palomar Observatory.
  5. Lol, scorched earth.
  6. Dave Tippett, if available, would be a slam dunk.
  7. Even if that was the case, it would have been in McLellan's interest to solicit an offer to leverage the offer from the Kings. It's possible he didn't want to Babcock us, but it's more likely the Sabres had several candidates and they want to see someone else. Who's up next, AV?
  8. More years of missing playoffs is unacceptable. We have serious needs on the team right now. It is worthwhile to gauge interest form other teams to leverage this serious asset for roster players that fill those needs contribute to this team for years to come. The scouts know best about the types of players available at 7, and what the other plateaus look like in the first round. I would be fine with taking the pick, trading down, or trading for established young players that will help us.
  9. Agreed. Boo-urns for exploiting media access to his son during a scrum that should be about his son's experience and successes to get meaningless timetable info on his Dad.
  10. This is the beginning and end of this trash thread. According to the Census, the Buffalo-Cheektowaga Metropolitan Statistical Area is 50th in population, right behind economic powerhouse Birmingham-Hoover, AL. There is no Earthly reason why two out of the Big Four leagues still have teams here. There's no big corporate money. There's no giant TV deals. There's no economic incentive. Partnerships with Yancey's Fancy and TV ads for veinsveinsveins.com don't support a team. There are many, many larger markets with would-be owners that would pay for these teams, and in several instances, they almost have. There's only two reasons that these teams are still in Buffalo: 1) revenue sharing; 2) we have ownership that wants them here. So do all the mental gymnastics you want, add all the qualifying language to your arguments, and dream up some imaginary ownership group that keeps the teams in town, wants to win, spends, and hires the GMs you thought you wanted. The reason you're not reduced to watching the national broadcasts of the Los Angeles Bills and the Seattle Sabres is the actual, real-life owners. Should the current ownership continue to strive to produce a championship team in each league? Yes. Should the current ownership be subjected to reasonable scrutiny? Yes. Should the current ownership be "fired," likely resulting in the relocation of both franchises? Don't waste my ***** time.
  11. The Sabres just had a cap hit of $75M to finish fifth last. $5M ain't ***** compared to that, compared to the big dollar operations costs of large market corporate front offices, or when considering there's no salary cap for non-players. We're lucky enough to have deep pocket owners, and they would be wise to leverage that to meet the organization's goals. Besides, if we start winning consistently, the owners will make that money back in franchise value and then some.
  12. Excuse me what the *****. After hiring a coach, this is currently the team's biggest item on the to-do list, and probably has been since October. Not signing Skinner is a massive blow to our playoff chances in the next three years.
  13. https://mobile.twitter.com/mayorNHL/status/1115997559099494401 The Mayor John Hoven @mayorNHL UPDATE: Did some further digging this morning (after some coffee, of course)... From what we've gathered, nothing has changed on the LA Kings coaching front, contrary to other reports. Yes, they continue to talk with McLellan. No new news though.
  14. Damn right we will. Bernstein is a freelance Kings homer and has been pushing for McLellan for a while. Wait for the Kings or Sabres to announce or wait for Bob McKenzie. The content of that breaking tweet is effectively similar to previous released facts.
  15. I just wanted either McDavid or Eichel. And then I just wanted Dahlin. The Buffalo Sabres will be fine. Eventually.
  16. Byram and Harley are lefties. Trade down and take Soderstrom? #AllTheSwedes #NotBerglundTho
  17. Yes, please. Especially some sort of Provorov with a right shot.
  18. Lol wut Fleecing Eugene Melnyk for a 1st rounder that unintentionally ends up being 4th overall, then gets deferred by Ottawa, then still unintentionally ends up being 4th overall? I'll take that hose any day. Also not mad about LA not winning. LA won two Cups since 2011. CHI won three Cups since 2010.
  19. Keep: LW Skinner, C Eichel, LW Rodrigues, D Dahlin, RW Reinhart, RW Pominville, C Larsson, D Pilut, D McCabe, RW Okposo (for now; overpaid), D Bogosian, D Montour (GAR sample is too small) Use in easier situations (ie, their EV_GAR sucked): C Mittelstadt, D Ristolainen, D Nelson, LW Sheary, C Girgensons Send down: RW Thompson, D Borgen Wait and see (too few games): LW Olofsson, RW Nylander, LW Smith Shitcan: C Sobotka, D Scandella, D Hunwick, LW Wilson, maybe Okposo based on $ Result: Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart ____?___-___?___-Pominville Rodrigues-Mittelstadt-Okposo Sheary-Larsson-Girgensons? (Olofsson/Smith)-(____?____)-(Nylander/Thompson) ____?____-____?____ Dahlin-Ristolainen McCabe-Montour (Pilut)-(Bogosian) (note: I'm not shitting on Bogosian here, but we need a successful #1RD, we know Risto did't do it, I'm not sure Montour can do it, and that logjams Bogo) What we're missing: LW2, C2, C5, LD1, RD1. You already know what we're missing. Top defensive talent while Dahlin develops and secondary scoring. LW2: We need secondary scoring. Erod played well in bottom six, keep him there. Sheary was too inconsistent, give him a better chance to find success in the bottom six. Girgensons struggled even in a bottom six role, but his OZstart% was crazy; a different coach will ease up on that. We'll need to acquire a scoring LW. If Skinner leaves, wit only exacerbates the problem. C2: Same story here. Need secondary scoring. MIttelstadt developed, but couldn't provide enough offense to improve the team. This is a hole left by ROR taht still needs to be filled, and if playoffs next year are the goal, we'll need to acquire a scoring C. LD1: Dahlin will develop and be amazing. But this season he successfully contributed at the LD2 position against not-top-tier opponents, according to the usage charts. It would be very optimistic to expect Dahlin to shut down top lines well enough and consistently to make playoffs. McCabe ended up against tough competition late in the season, and struggled, but is usually solid against weaker opponents- if he were pushed to LD3, he would undoubtedly perform. RD1: Risto has been bearing a huge workload as far as quality of competition and, by many metrics, has been struggling with it. He needs to see a mixture of easier opponents to be successful. Meanwhile, Montour played with success at the RD2 position but may not be able to carry a team into the playoffs on the top pair. This logjams Bogosian into the 7th defenseman.
  20. This is a very nuanced opinion. Sobotka is no longer a threat to our sanity, as no matter who gets hired to coach, they won't use Sobotka like Housley did. Don't use him to leverage anything other than cap space, unless someone's stupid enough to want him.
  21. Oh Christ, that would be unbearable on a lot of levels.
