LeBrun pontificates in the Athletic today that teams could try to trade with Las Vegas to circumnavigate the Seattle expansion draft rules. Bill Daly denied it as a possibility, saying teams "won't," but didn't specify how the league c/would stop them. LV is not participating in the Seattle expansion. As a result, LV does not get a share of the $650M Seattle expansion fee. This was unanimously agreed upon by teams, who stood to gain ~$700k each by allowing LV to skip the SEA expansion and splitting the $650M fee among 30 teams (not 31). Interesting economic trade.

Many of those players that suck have sucked for years, no improvement is expected, and the GM needs to clean them out. From the rumors swirling at the deadline, a surprising number of players that don't suck may be available. Sabres have better cap space than most to get players that don't suck.

KBC is owned by Erie County, and by being the major lessee, PSE may be probing the ability to improve the facility using little to no public funds. To do that, they would want to know how much money they can gather in the following years from the improvement. It'd be like if you wanted to take out a mortgage to improve your house, but you don't own/have any equity in your house, you rent it like an apartment. No one would give you that loan, unless you could give serious collateral and prove how you were going to pay for it. That kind of research will tell PSE whether they havw $5M/$10M/$50M to play with for improvements.

With all the defensmen callups this year, Guhle only played two games. Pilut played 25, Nelson 22, Hunwick 8, and Tennyson 4. His performance in Rochester this year (27P in 50GP, -11 is a team-worst) also plateaued compared to last year (26P in 50GP, +1), and that was on a Rochester team that got a lot better this year. We bolstered our defense with a young roster player that has potential and is under contract for a while without eating salary or trading out roster players. I think we're doing alright, especially considering we still have two firsts.
