A couple of things: 1. In the chatter about what Mittlestadt would do, I saw several mentions of how the Minnesota coach was retiring in the face of diminishing interest in and attendance of Gopher hockey games. WTF? 2. I was driven to absolute distraction over how much I disliked the PBP call on the first several goals in this clip: I know there are some codgers here (me included) who gripe that Dunleavy often doesn't *say* "SCORES!" when a goal is scored. But, man alive -- the guy on those initial goals in this clip. Is this a generational thing? Are PBP callers of the future no longer going to say "SCORE!" or a word like that when a goal is scored?

I'll admit that the whole burning a year of the ELC, but it's not counted as a pro year, expansion draft stuff is just ... confusing to me.

Sorry if I am late to the party on this, but I wanted to ask whether there might be tension arising from his presumed desire to play in the NHL (and to receive guarantees to this effect?) and his presumed need for seasoning in the AHL.

What do you make of Foles and to a lesser extent Keenum this past season? Is the age of the NFL system quarterback upon us? (Stated another way: Has the league finally started to catch up with Belichick?)

Not usually. It did happen this year, though. I'm not sure what to make of the Foles stuff with the Eagles, honestly. Unless and until certain coordinators start having regular success with journeyman guys, I'll continue to believe that you need to find a franchise QB in order to contend. But maybe this is the dawning of an era where really good O-coordinators can get the needed production out of Wentz, Foles, Keenum -- whomever. (My intent in mentioning Wentz -- reputedly a franchise QB -- is that he's apparently interchangeable with Foles.)

Thanks for the insight. I'm not sure there's really a parallel, since it's uniquely true that you have to have your franchise QB in the NFL in order to succeed. So I think it's more indisputably true that it's worth doing what you need to do to get your guy. It may not work, but it's mission critical -- in a way that getting one elite talent is not as mission critical in the NHL. In other words, you can build a Cup contending team without a McDavid-level player.

The thing that came to my mind: Synthetic marijuana is known to induce PCP-like reactions in users. I hope Zay is okay, and that he gets a chance to come back (in football) from whatever was going on there.

I want(ed) to believe Incarcerated Bob knows stuff, but that purported offer is so off (low) in comparison to what the Jets gave up that I can't credit it a bit. I know that teams will negotiate, and I know how negotiations work. But as an opening offer, it just seems like a non-starter, given how the market's been set. Hmm. That math does check out, though. Maybe that gets it done, or close to it? (I just don't think the Giants move.)
