  1. Welp. They were not in a position to get the Colts pick at 3 - based on what Ballard said and given the price paid. Do the Giants even want to trade out? I’m thinking maybe not. Browns ain’t giving up #1. Are they? That would leave #4. And if all QBs go at 1, 2, 3 — then you likely won’t get the player you want at 4. I’m mostly unconcerned with the Taylor trade, irrespective of how the draft shakes out. That sort of production at QB is replacement level.
  2. It did stun me how much it cost to move up from 6 to 3.
  3. Makes perfect sense. I do now wonder whether they’ll be able to find a partner in the top 5 at this point.
  4. Loogout - it’s the dour power hour.
  5. Nah. It generally suits my temperament better to post periodically in response to stuff that I think is B.S.
  6. I will eye roll. This gripe is tired, and tiresome — in this case, both in form and substance.
  7. It's getting downright incestuous between these teams.
  8. Ha - nice. I'll have to look for the quote in video format - the tone/delivery seems key. Ginger boss? Goodell?
  9. ^ You can be your own worst critic. You can be the first in and last out at the building every day. You can dedicate yourself to improving poor mechanics - and succeed in doing so. All of that together, along with whatever else you want to throw in, is not going to meaningfully improve accuracy. A QB's ability to see those absurdly small windows of space, floating out there in the air, instantaneously trigger the muscle movements necessary to place the ball into that window, at the right moment is an ability that is rooted in deep grey matter, or maybe that reptilian brain stem or whatever. No amount of effort will transform a QB from one who has poor or average accuracy into one who has good or great accuracy.
  10. That team is just fun to watch. Fearless.
  11. Feels that way. Whatever. Hit on the QB, and things like this aren’t as big an issue.
  12. Aye yi yi. That’s ... expensive.
  13. Well, I reckon we will just disagree that it was any great loss to swap Taylor for the 65th pick overall. That could prove to have been a hugely important piece of the QB of the future puzzle, I think McBeane concluded -- and I think probably rightly (or at least defensibly so) -- that they can get the net production that Taylor provided out of McCarron/Rookie QB. WGR Sal said precisely this on the radio this morning, and I tend to agree. Taylor was uniquely capable of the spectacular, and maddeningly incapable of the routine. I think that, next season, the team can wring the same net production out of different talents is all. In a more mundane fashion, perhaps. Plus, there's a net cap savings in this scenario. It all just strikes me as good asset and risk management.
  14. I was just pointing out that they were both Bama fellers. Tasty.
  15. I don't hold many strong opinions on projecting QBs into the NFL -- because, of course, I don't know much about it. One thing I do firmly believe: Once a QB prospect is ~20+ years old, his accuracy can be tweaked or improved marginally, but not substantially or meaningfully. Which is why I want no part of Allen.
  16. To point the first: ROLL DAMN TIDE! To point the second: Hey - that's a potshot. Our reporter on the scene says he was gleaning matters intangible from young Sam Darnold -- not the extent to which he dominated play in HS.
  17. Yes - thanks. More and more, I am thinking and hoping that their guy is Mayfield -- and we'll soon enough see if he can get it done. Take your shot! And continuing to accept a team (and QB) with the limitations of last year's squad (and QB) would have been more irresponsible still. Or Darnold! Maybe him too! Let's goooooooooooooooo.
  18. Oh, yeah, man. I like the sound of it. Mind you: I have *no* clue whether Mayfield can get it done in the NFL. I haven't watched him much, and I also am not good at evaluating foobaw talent. I have come to realize that, chief among other things, most successful NFL QBs need a workaholic approach to their job (Big Ben maybe an exception?). Those dudes need to study and grind and process information like no one else on the roster. But Mayfield sounds and seems to have some "it" to him. Bring it on!
  19. From Ross Tucker, fwiw: “Bills getting AJ McCarron for 25 cents on the Sam Bradford dollar feels like the best value in free agency so far.”
  20. Geez. This is obdurately negative. McBeane’s moves this offseason have been shrewd. There seems to be more of a plan at OBD than there’s been since the team’s heyday. To this point, the evaluation is an asset-based one — the McBeane FO has been smart with asset management and theoretical roster building. Now they hafta score with a QB pick — which means, in large measure, they have to have some good fortune. Which: Same as it ever was. Man - I am so done with the low-floor approach. Certainly there’s risk here. Far riskier than needed? I’m not so sure about that. Seattle thought they were relying on, who — Matt Flynn? — the year Wilson emerged. Having an Alex Smith in place probably would have been better — but not at the price and term, he fetched — no, sir. Overpaying for a FA QB would have been riskier to longer term success than what they’re doing now. The idea seems to be to build a terrific roster around a cost controlled quarterback. Giddee up. And bonne chance! Good stuff.
  21. Shout out to Uncle Brent (Musberger).
  22. Reads like he’s sympathizing with Le’Veon.
  23. Released?!
