  1. I’d wager -$1500 that Allen will wash out of the NFL without amounting to much.
  2. Now, those OTOH are pretty idiot-proof. I know this because my wife showed me how to prepare one in the toaster oven for a light meal -- to amazing effect. Lightly season it, pop it in the toaster oven for 10 minutes or so, put a slice of cheese on top, then broil it for a couple more minutes, and BOOM. Deliciousness.
  3. I enjoy eggplant when it's prepared well. Problem being: It's incredibly difficult to prepare it well - based on my experience with eating it. OTOH, shout-out to eggplant for being the texting lexicon's penis emoji.
  4. I'm on board with this. It's part of why I hold out the possibility that Taylor does some stuff for Cleveland this coming season. The offence they made him run last year with Dennison was ridiculous -- for Taylor, specifically. It got a bit better as the season went on, but largely remained an exercise in futility. So dumb. And that is partly why I get nervous about the idea of the team picking a guy like Lamar Jackson. It's possible that he could be terrific in the NFL -- but he is going to need a friendly scheme/system, IMO. So many OC's insist that the players fit the scheme, not the other way around. I still can't spell or say the name of the Bills' new OC -- but I'll say I have no idea what he's apt to do with a QB.
  5. I reckon there is something to this. I'm holding out hope, though, that a journeyman starter/backup can readily replace Taylor's overall value. My hope is that McCarron would be able to do the dull and ordinary things that often eluded Taylor (because McCarron sure as hell isn't replacing Taylor's freakish athleticism). Not for nothing: If the Bills were to pick a QB in round 1, they'd have someone in camp with a floor higher than capable backup. Maybe I missed your point there, though.
  6. Yeah. It remains a strong and graphic phrase for me.
  7. Man - talk about inflation of value. That's how it goes, though. I had a similar reaction when people were casually dropping the epithet "POS" around here. The modern condition seems to involve the increasingly casual use of verbal hand grenades -- until, it seems, language just loses its meaning. Either that, or I am just getting old.
  8. That's a somewhat small sample size. It's been established upthread that, while "chance" or good fortune is always an element, your odds improve markedly if you select a QB toward the top of the draft. That said, I don't hate, and sorta like, your (tweaked) suggestion of getting the BPA at 12, taking Rudolph at 22, and then picking a sleeper in round 3 or 4. They certainly have the picks to do it. That is interesting -- especially since the leaks out of OBD have all but stopped under McBeane.
  9. I have a bet with a guy in my FFB league -- stakes are a bottle of Woodford Reserve -- that Jackson will go before the #12 pick (whether the Bills have that pick or not). Initially, I had staked my claim as top-10 -- but then asked for the 11-spot as well.
  10. I think it was reasonable for the Bills to conclude that they could get substantially the same production out of the QB position in 2018 by relying on McCarron/a rookie they select next month. No one has a crystal ball. They may be a QB tire fire if they can't get one of the top-5 prospects and McCarron stinks. But I think it was a reasonable assessment of their assets and options. My low-key biggest concern with the Bills is the RB position: I saw a stat to the effect that there are 6 RBs who are 29 or older in the league, and the Bills have 4 of them, or something. Yeah - but you have to overpay for the QB position.
  11. More and more, I think the Giants are taking a QB at 2. I also think there is a really good chance that the Dolphins are taking a QB -- and may be looking to move up to do it. To your bolded point: I think this sort of assumes that the Bills see the first tier of QBs as interchangeable -- that they'd be happy with any of them with a top-12 pick. I get the sense that's not the case, though. I think they have 2-3 guys that they really like and would take at #12 or higher (if they can get there), but that, failing that, they're going to wait to take someone less heralded.
  12. FWIW: Sal at WGR reported that the team never planned to be in on the FA QBs that garnered big deals. I can't say that what Beane's been doing has struck me as willy nilly or ad hoc. The guy seems to have a plan. Will it work? Who knows. The Jets have a 50-50 shot or slightly worse of having that #3 pick blow up in their face. (Even so - good on them for taking their shot.)
  13. Welp. They were not in a position to get the Colts pick at 3 - based on what Ballard said and given the price paid. Do the Giants even want to trade out? I’m thinking maybe not. Browns ain’t giving up #1. Are they? That would leave #4. And if all QBs go at 1, 2, 3 — then you likely won’t get the player you want at 4. I’m mostly unconcerned with the Taylor trade, irrespective of how the draft shakes out. That sort of production at QB is replacement level.
  14. It did stun me how much it cost to move up from 6 to 3.
  15. Makes perfect sense. I do now wonder whether they’ll be able to find a partner in the top 5 at this point.
  16. Loogout - it’s the dour power hour.
  17. Nah. It generally suits my temperament better to post periodically in response to stuff that I think is B.S.
  18. I will eye roll. This gripe is tired, and tiresome — in this case, both in form and substance.
  19. It's getting downright incestuous between these teams.
  20. Ha - nice. I'll have to look for the quote in video format - the tone/delivery seems key. Ginger boss? Goodell?
  21. ^ You can be your own worst critic. You can be the first in and last out at the building every day. You can dedicate yourself to improving poor mechanics - and succeed in doing so. All of that together, along with whatever else you want to throw in, is not going to meaningfully improve accuracy. A QB's ability to see those absurdly small windows of space, floating out there in the air, instantaneously trigger the muscle movements necessary to place the ball into that window, at the right moment is an ability that is rooted in deep grey matter, or maybe that reptilian brain stem or whatever. No amount of effort will transform a QB from one who has poor or average accuracy into one who has good or great accuracy.
  22. That team is just fun to watch. Fearless.
  23. Feels that way. Whatever. Hit on the QB, and things like this aren’t as big an issue.
