Way way way too early to call.

That OT play last night could have ended the same as the CGY game... Risto takes the puck in deep, turns it over and gets beat down the ice... only this time the MTL player shoots it high and wide. I'll take it, but people wonder why Risto is a -12 and every other defenseman on the team is even or a plus player.... there's visual evidence. He makes poor decisions and doesn't have the speed or quickness to make up for them.

He has the skill and stature to be an efficient faceoff guy. You can tell he put a lot of work into it this off-season. I'll bet he never really practiced it much before then.

I'm still open to trading him, imagine the haul of picks and prospects if he keeps up this scoring pace. I still don't know enough about him to speak on his values. Does he value his on ice success both team and individual... Eg, would he be having the same success playing without Eichel on another team? Or does he only care about maxing out his contract moving forward next season. If I'm JBOTs I offer less than market value because there are things outside of dollars that Buffalo can offer that other teams can't. If he only cares about money, let him go somewhere else, because once he gets it he'll be less of a player.

I think he's doing fine, but watching him play it just looks like he should be doing more. The goals will come, but just need to see more consistentency shift to shift. His first couple seasons he would score a bunch by attacking the middle of the ice off the wall and letting a shot go, and shooting off the rush. We haven't seen that the past couple seasons.

I'm happy for the win, but man... So many poor defensive plays... guys out of position, poor puck management, lack of respect, no sense of urgency, allowing too much time and space, untimely lack of saves.. just not doing that hockey very good.

They need to start thinking about what they need to do to bring another netminder so they let Ullmark play everyday in Rochester... He looks rusty and that's not unusual for a young tendy who is used to playing a lot more than he has.

I know a lot of folks on here were hoping for high scoring hockey like tonight, but I hate it. It's bad hcoeky.

That's coach speak for saying he didn't like some of the goals Hutton let in.

I warn my kids about this stuff all the time... what you put out on the internet is there forever for the entire world to see... future employers, future girlfriends/spouse, your own children, etc... Doesn't even matter if you delete it, somebody has screen captured it somewhere ready to throw it back in your face.

This will only be logically consistent 4 weeks from now, as Eichel didn't sign until early October. But your conclusion was made when Matthews didn't do what you did, even though his path had him prepared enough to finish 2nd in the NHL in goal scoring during his rookie season. Well, it's been 8 weeks... and here we are. Anybody think he'll sign an extension in the near future? I've always predicted AM would have short term success. He has. He choose the path of least resistance (getting paid to play in Europe) instead of putting in the effort to get a high school diploma and attend college. Money motivates him (not winning, not developing his character, not growing as a person)... once he's financially secure he'll no longer have any motivation to succeed.

He's starting to get more involved offensively, although it hasn't shown up on the stat sheet yet.... it's coming.

Not sure how expected goals are calculated, but this guy's shot evaluation is pretty unique and interesting.... and he has his own unique algorithm for calculating expected GF.
