  1. Obvious frustration by Myers. Biggest surprise for me (just looking at the clip below) was that there didn't seem to be any reaction from Seattle for their young star. Beniers just gets up slow and works his way over to the bench.
  2. Not sure how he's looking in practices but I would think he would be very motivated to play well against Winnipeg assuming the team shows up ready to play another good road win for him.
  3. That looks like an over payment to me. I'm interested in seeing what Arizona eventually gets for Chychrun. Despite the rumors I think they would jump at Savoie and a 1st for him if Adams made the offer but I suspect he might want to use one of the other first rounders like Rosen. I was convinced the Sabres were going to draft Chychrun in the 2016 Draft, not Nylander. If they taken him then swap him for Jokiharju in the current lineup. But of course there were other better options as well on D like McAvoy and Sergachev in hindsight. Funny looking back at that list now with Tage at 26th and Jost at 10th. Quite a few busts that draft.
  4. I'm guessing any changes coming will happen at the draft rather than at the trade deadline this year. Of course Adams needs to be talking and listening but the prices are generally pretty high at the deadline with GM's desperate to win the Cup or at least keep their job with trades. I don't think the Sabres should trade their 1st this year even with the improved prospect pool. Maybe the right deal comes around but we will see.
  5. I turned on the Edmonton Vancouver game last night for the 3rd. I couldn't turn it off. Great support for Bruce Boudreau. Crowd chants "Bruce, there it is". This situation has been mismanaged badly. I don't have an issue with firing coaches but Jim Rutherford really seems to have messed this up. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canucks-fire-head-coach-bruce-boudreau-hire-rick-tocchet/
  6. If Horvat becomes a UFA I would make a call to see if there's a fit for him with the Sabres. He grew up in the London Ontario area so if that's of interest to him (playing close to home in the East), Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit. Toronto can't afford him. I'm not convinced that Vancouver offered him as big of a contract as the rumors say. I think he gets traded as a rental and becomes a UFA. I think that he'll be this season's Nazim Kadri (signed late with Calgary but for less money than some thought he would get). Someone suggested Seattle as a good fit for him (nice to add to the regional rivalry with the Canucks).
  7. Needless to say but these are the games that they "must win" when they become a playoff team. Don't waste them.
  8. I became a fan as a young kid with the Sabres in the 70's. I always lived in Ontario (moving from places between Windsor to Toronto at various times). Watched Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday night. No family influence. Personally I always found the Leafs and Canadians to be such arrogant teams and fan bases. The Sabres had that underdog blue collar foundation that I was attracted to. The team, city and fans are my kind of people.
  9. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/minnesota-wild-sign-f-matt-boldy-to-seven-year-49m-extension-1.1906776 I didn't see this posted yet. Boldy signed for 7 years at $7M. Seems a bit high. Cozens numbers are much better so his leverage keeps rising. One of the interesting side stories in watching Minnesota manage the Salary cap.
  10. We can reasonably guess at our plans for goalies next season at this point (most likely UPL / Comrie) but we don't have much of a clear picture beyond that. No one is established. The Sabres organization is still a great choice for any young goalie looking to play in the NHL (attention Levi and Portillo). I don't see either one stepping into the NHL without some AHL playing time. We will see what happens but I still hope that we will sign both.
  11. Well I guess that's where the saying comes from..........."I'd give my left nut for this"
  12. Canada wins, Dylan Guenther.
  13. Canada and Czechia tied up going to overtime. Kulich with a goal. Nice to see this one being a close game instead of a blow out.
  14. I missed this game today but looking at the overtime highlights it seemed like a Sabre prospect was going to be the hero regardless of what team won. Rosen with a beautiful individual play that was close, Östlund getting a puck through and sitting on the goal line, and Kulich with the winner. Great show from our 3 prospects in case anyone else missed seeing the game.
  15. Absolutely agree with this strategy for fresh legs but we generally seem to get the exact same lineup after a win unless injuries dictate a change. I suppose that the coach hates to sit anyone after a big win.
  16. I don't know much about Hellberg. He's been with Ottawa and Seattle after a few KHL seasons. He's a big goalie at 6'6" but he's not a kid at 31. Fringe goalie, let's help send him back to the AHL.
  17. I expected Pilut to play a bit better than he has. It has to be tough not playing though for the fringe guys. Hope he clears and is able to help Rochester. We don't have great depth right now at D. Knock on wood that we stay healthy.
  18. I remember one of the other posters saying that the Sabres would have to sign him before he left camp this year or he would have to go through the draft again (2023) before he is eligible to sign.
  19. I like that Rosen has been willing to get to the net on some of the plays. He's not just playing perimeter hockey. He can apply what he's learned in the AHL season so far. He looks good. He'll add weight in strength in the coming seasons.
  20. I hear you. I went through a number of "head shakers" with my parents as they aged too. They were stubborn and really wanted to maintain their independence when they were still living at home together. My Dad died just over a year ago and my Mom is in a home now. All the best to you and your family.
  21. All those years playing against Patrick Roy when he was with the Habs sucked. It will be great when Levi is making a difference for the Sabres. He'll still get to show off for his home town area fans every road game in Montreal and Ottawa (wins are a must, shutouts optional).
  22. Just catching up on "32 thoughts" audio tonight. It doesn't shock me that the Sabres may have considered trading Tage Thompson in the past when things were not going well but I have a hard time believing that it was considered for only a 5th round pick. Look at what we did with Nylander trading to get value back for a struggling former 1st rounder. A 5th for Thompson would have been foolish (even if he hadn't broke out last year). Must be more to this story. I hate these clips that don't name names.
  23. I forgot that Casey's brother Luke was drafted draft eligible. Some familiar names from the draft. I'm looking forward to the WJC.
