  1. That has been a pet peeve of mine for the last few years. Teams are giving away players with sweeteners as cap dumps but maybe those players don’t want to be in Buffalo in KA’s mind. I know teams fear offer sheets because of retribution but KA could have had someone like Swayman for a reasonable amount. The tool is there for all to use. Most teams are tight to the cap every year, keep some powder dry and scoop some talent every year and set a new trend for how to put your team over the top. Teams will smarten up and see this as a potential strategy. If the teams don’t want offer sheets, get rid of them. Another play is to help broker deals and get those precious picks/prospects that KA loves.
  2. Hope springs eternal. I really think they can assert themselves as a team others respect, and make the playoffs.
  3. I can’t link the video because of limited data and wifi access in the Yukon, but my goal song would be All Fired Up by Pat Benatar.
  4. That’s cool for him, never liked him as a player. Rami Malik was good as well in his short role as Hill.
  5. I just crossed over into the Yukon, no sign of Cozens yet.
  6. I still find it wild that Reinhart, Ekblad and Bennett are on the same team.
  7. Bedard is really good but I don’t think he will win the Vezina.
  8. I caught last night, 3 hours flew by. It’s kind of cool to see Damon and Downey Jr. in supporting roles.
  9. Ernie Whitt took some mighty cuts back in the day.
  10. The move restores the balance to 11 teams in the east and west divisions. Winnipeg was the furthest team to the east. 6 of the 11 in the west are US based. All 11 in the east are in Canada.
  11. I agree that nothing is set in stone. While Levi is the only waiver eligible of the three, I think he is the least likely to be sent down. It will be an interesting battle to watch. I think Comrie’s salary makes him easier to send down on waivers, most teams are tight to the cap and have one or two guys at his level already.
  12. On my way to the Yukon. I have lots of time so I took the scenic route through Banff and Jasper Alberta. I’m in Fort St John in northern BC and still 14 hours from Whitehorse. My work location is another 7 hours north of Whitehorse. Beautiful country, looking forward to new sights.
  13. They met again today and Owen gave him his stick, signed.
  14. My son relayed a cool story to me today. He plays tier2 Junior A. An older friend of his works at summer hockey camps for kids, juniors and pros. He invited my son down to help him with the kids, skate with the juniors and check out the pros. The pros finished their drills and a few were still doing a few things on their own as the juniors were coming on. One guy asked my son if he could feed him some passes for one timers. My son couldn’t believe and immediately set up to help. The player was Owen Power. They briefly chatted after and will maybe do it again tomorrow.
  15. He said he was good to go in the playoffs. They convinced him that making $6M sitting at home is better than a buyout and competing for a backup job for $1M.
  16. My wife and I always watch Alone, we just admire how resourceful they are and how much of a mental challenge it is.
  17. I don’t think they can walk away from Samsonov’s award because it is under $4M. I am not sure how long they have to buy out someone.
  18. It was a hockey card show in Toronto. I brought my son and we met Perreault, Hasek and Lafontaine. Pat was really nice with my son.
  19. I think we are a few hours north of Dawson City. There are only 2 or 3 communities in the 500 mile/ 800 km run. Federal govt. wanting internet for all.
  20. Installing poles for new fibre optic line.
  21. Heading to Cozens country this week. I signed up to work a few weeks in the Yukon, north of Dawson City, along the Dempster highway to the Arctic. It is on my bucket list of places to see, I’d rather be a tourist but someone else footing the bill is OK. The work is outdoors so I will definitely see some sights.
  22. Travis Yost of TSN saying that the Leafs may have to buy out TJ Brodie and Matt Murray to become cap compliant. Brodie has been good, he may be a casualty due to his age and expiring contract.
  23. They are more than $12M over the cap. Muzzin is on LTIR for $5M+. They need to move Murray and then some. And they want Karlsson. Go to cap hell Leafs!
  24. He definitely watches all of these prospects closely. It sounds like he views games from every level on both hockey continents. I trust his work, even established veteran scouts make mistakes with drafts and prospects.
