  1. I would honestly like to hear what these all time greats think about their records getting broken. They always take the high road and say how great the new guy is and that records are meant to be broken. I’m pretty sure Wayne is a humble guy and would be as graceful as his idol Gordie but you never know.
  2. Ovi left the game with a lower body injury. He has been healthy for a long time but a serious injury could derail his chance at Gretzky’s record. He sits 164 goals back at 36 years of age.
  3. I think a large part of a goalie’s success is confidence. Once he has a few good games and some wins he will have confidence in his abilities. The fundamentals can be worked on every day and improvement will come. I think the Amerks have a good team and this will help him get on the right path.
  4. The longer his surgery is delayed the more they can Kucherov him, I wonder if that is in the equation. Teams can use LTIR until the playoffs and clear space for him for 22/23.
  5. This guy is on a nice trajectory, he may turn pro sooner than I thought. I know, one shutout does not a season make but it is a great start for your first NCAA game. I like him a lot (Canadian bias) and want to see something good come out of the Reinhart deal, even if it is years away.
  6. NHL Oldtimers came to my hometown about thirty years ago. Pierre Pilote was around 60 and not one local could get the puck off of him or prevent a breakout pass. Some of these guys had played junior hockey and were in their 20’s but they looked like boys vs men.
  7. I think he is the best they have but he will need to have a reasonable workload. This allow a rotation of Dell, UPL and Tokarski to get some games. I am hoping for someone better to shake loose from the waiver wire or an Eichel trade.
  8. Best offer at the deadline might come from the Leafs where he is reunited with Soo bosses Dumbass and Keefe.
  9. Camp is now more manageable, dressing 2/3 of the starting lineup for the last few pre season games.
  10. I hope he rebounds. Provided he’s not hurt he should make their U20 squad where he can be evaluated vs his peers. He has already played two of those tourneys, so the thought was he was ahead of his peers. He may have lost his confidence being challenged vs men.
  11. Taylor Fedun on the first pairing. Pens may motivate this lineup by saying if you get a point you stay at camp.
  12. Or did someone hack into PSE’s IT dept?
  13. The D is decent, 5 of the top 8. I am interested in watching Mitts operate on the half wall on PP1 as well as Dahlin running the point again. Should be more cuts coming soon, get this roster down to NHLers and bubble guys. I hope there may even be some talent to pick up on waivers.
  14. I voted 4th liner which is a JAG, in my opinion. Non JAG 4th liners excel at something like PK, checking assignments, critical face offs or fighting.
  15. Here is a curveball. If he has surgery and is ready just in time for the Olympics, who’s insurance covers him during that tournament? I thought there was special insurance paid for by the IOC and the IIHF to cover guys. Playing well in the Olympics would raise his trade value without having to dress for the Sabres.
  16. Shane Wright, in three years, if the Sabres win the lottery.
  17. I want the Sabres to take at least one C in the first round. Just saying I get to watch Nelson a lot this year.
  18. Now that Sam is gone Dahlin is my favourite Sabres player. Donnie G said he wants Rasmussen to just play freely and take the good with the bad. The experience will make him better. Dahlin is like an artist and I want him to have a swashbuckling mentality. I will handle some errors that lead to goals as long as he leads the offense and brings me out of my seat a few times a game. I know plus minus is not a popular stat now, but if he keeps that number near neutral while scoring 60 points I would call that a big step up.
  19. I love HNIC but death is a pretty drastic alternative!
  20. Catching my first OHL game in two years today. It is an exhibition game but I am looking forward to it. Our North Bay Battalion team had the 1st overall pick in 2020, Ty Nelson, and he has not played an OHL game yet. He is 2022 NHL draft eligible and Craig Button has him pegged as a 1st rounder. Looking forward to watching him this season as well as all the other prospects, including Shane Wright.
  21. I like the way Donnie G speaks during his interviews. He seems inspiring and wanting the players to work hard and be allowed to make mistakes, as long as they learn from them. I do not expect the playoffs, but have some hope for that, especially if there is a decent return for Jack. I get puzzled looks when people find out I’m a Sabres fan but I’ve been one a long time and am here for the long run. Like others have said, just entertain me.
  22. Throw in a decent goalie and a cap dump to make the numbers work.
  23. There is some balance between all of the lines but I liked Asplund with Mitts. He should be higher in the lineup than on the 4th line.
  24. Cooler weather for working on the property and for sleeping at night. No more bugs in the bush. Wonderful foliage. The comfort of a sweatshirt, plus it hides some fat. Nice cozy fires in the wood stove. Hockey. Hot bowls of soup. Great hot tub evenings.
  25. Hughes’ scenario is a bit different in that the Canucks are in a cap constrained environment.
