Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
SABRES 0311 replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
WARNING SOME SPOILER!!!: CAPTAIN MARVEL Ok so I just saw Captain Marvel and I know there are a lot of reviews coming out. Here is my take. The movie provides the standard character background just like the stand alone movies for each Avenger member. There are some tie ins to the rest of the Avenger universe as well. The fight scenes were on par with the first Iron Man movie in their quality/excitement so it depends on your opinion of that. Character history is pretty easy to understand and of course you have the credits scene. Samuel L. Jackson had his funny moments and a much bigger role compared to other Avenger movies. So for the history of the Avengers I think it was good. Here is where I tell you that reviews were not that far off. Jackson does a good job along with the supporting cast. Some comic relief mixed with heroic acts. The problem is with the lack of emotion in the main character. I don’t want to give spoilers but when you see events that happen to the heroin ask yourself how you or any other person would react. Even Tony Stark shows emotions and vulnerability when it’s appropriate. This does not happen with Captain Marvel. Emotions are part of character development. Aside from a backstory there isn’t much development at all. Through all the trials and tribulations our main character endures she is the same person, no better or worse emotionally or morally by the end. Unless you count a five second look back at Earth at the end. Captain Marvel is built as a mix of Stark’s attitude and Captain America’s physical strength, minus the flying. However she is human. Essentially the problem with this movie is the lack of human response to situations which makes Captain Marvel the main character instead of Carol Danvers. Most if not all of the other Avenger movies did it the other way around. You want to get to know the persona of the character as much as their alter ego. This did not happen. The reason I think this happened is bad writing and bad acting of Ms Larsson. As the most powerful Avenger this movie should have undergone longer development. Marvel is joining a fight a decade in the making. We love Stark, Rogers, Natasha, Banner, Parker, so on. Now we are supposed to accept Marvel who has missed our beloved character’s long fight as what is being built as their savior. If that’s the case another Marvel movie should’ve been made prior to End Game but that’s not reality. Recommendation: Go see the movie because it is part of the bigger universe. However keep your expectations to a backstory with CGI. I’d give it a 6.5 out of 10. -
Would like to see Mitts on Larry’s wing. Wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out the way Sam did which is fine.

Thanks for the education. Clearly I won’t be getting a call for GM.

A new door opens for each of you. For all three I offer my best wishes for a bright future. Take care of yourselves and those you care about and it will be returned.

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
SABRES 0311 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
As do I. I do not think Trump is a good guy but I think we have to try something with NK because either the alternative or eventuality will cost lives. I too get confrontational not because of my profession but because I don’t want my kids fighting the same war I am. I also think we are too divided on social issues to pay attention to who is pulling the strings and for what reason. We let politician’s hate and misdeeds create ill feelings toward our brother and sister citizens. No need to apologize for being passionate about things. Simper Fi -

And I agree no country benefits monetarily from continued wars. This is why I believe all efforts to peaceful resolution should be tried with the exception of responding to an attack. Even then there should be a withdrawal plan. There is a line though that should not be crossed and if it is and all attempts at resolution have failed then so be it. -

So in 2004 my unit got a brief from USAID. The point was to make us aware of how we could identify things the local populace needs that they could provide. Hearts and minds thing. The guy actually admitted they were buying things the people didn’t want. One story was about how they tried to give a farmer a tractor and he refused. Can’t remember if it was because he didn’t need it or if by accepting it he would make himself a target. So to that end I agree. Spending money on unnecessary things simply takes it away from what we do need. I have also become somewhat familiar with the spend it or lose approach. I think it’s a combination of giving contracts to companies who have politicians in their pockets and spending money to show a need for more. Was, rinse, repeat. I wanted to make sure I understood the context is all. -
In terms of market value, does it go by other players of that position getting new contracts that year or by all players in that position?

Then I guess I misunderstood the point. Maybe that’s why I asked for an explanation. -

1. Grading it on experience which includes working with, helping train and studying foreign militaries. Not sure why you went off the rails on the honoring thing. 2. Lack of response resulted in rocket flyovers of Japan and threats of nuclear attack on the U.S. by a country backed by China. I don’t want war I want a peaceful resolution but sometimes that does not work. 3. You confuse corruption of the big military industrial complex with the heart of the military. Technology combined with almost 20 years of continued combat experience and something hard to quantify, fighting spirit, is what makes the U.S. military as good as it is. Free stuff and accolades was not what I was talking about. Washington doesn’t dictate how the Sergeant employs his squad or how the Corpsman saves the wounded. Maybe use something other than Wikipedia to gain insight. -

Right here. I really thought he and Eichel’s production would have made this thing go quicker. Guy has to do what he feels is best for him though. Ah well at some point it will be over.

I’d appreciate it if you could explain this. Does that make military personnel socialists? -
1. Sarcasm 2. Whose to say we can't have all four and Skinner? In fact I made a post about this concern a while back and another poster stated there shouldn't be an issue with cap space. 3. Skinner is getting paid period. Just because we have a couple guys over 30 who suck does not mean it will happen to Skinner.

I say give him what he wants. Somebody will and they will benefit from his stats. Take a chance if that's what it is. Not like we can get much worse if he tanks. In case anyone hasn't realized there isn't much else to get excited about with this team. At the very least we can enjoy a real top line for a few more years to mask the failure of what we call a rebuild.

Maybe he hasn't been given a good enough reason yet. No way they think threats against the U.S. (greatest military in the history of the world) will forever go unanswered. -
Any lineup projections? Can't check it on this computer.

We should be alright as long as Chicago doesn’t try any wrap arounds or take any penalties.

I think you are right. I keep refreshing the thread hoping to see the post declaring a done deal.

I disagree to an extent on your take on reunification. I agree having a man-child in charge makes negotiating a waste of time. Last ditch effort would be for President Moon to try and convince KJU to quit being a DBag. If not, I can see a U.S./SK backed civil uprising. Beyond that is either war or back to the laughable strategic patience. So it comes down to how KJU and his Generals view survival. -
All about 10 minute OT but keep the two minute penalty. Shootouts are fun to watch but they seem wrong at the same time.

Well the news is reporting NK is rebuilding some test facilities. Time will tell if this is true but if so I wonder what KJU has to gain from it. Possibly a show of strength to his Generals. I would say his people but I don’t think he cares much about their patriotism as much as controlling their perspective on the outside world. I would like to see South Korea take more of a roll in these talks. Trilateral communication is the way to peaceful reunification IMO. -
How the Hell are the Bruins the 3rd best team in hockey right now??
SABRES 0311 replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
I agree with all of this and what I got from it is simple. If you become a Bruin you prove you are worthy. If not you are gone. It's probably not just a management decision either. I assume guys like Chara and Marchand don't take kindly to weak players who coast and don't do the little things necessary to win. How many games have we complained about this player and that player not skating hard on the back check, no net front presence, or lack of checking. Not saying we need to imitate the Bruins but we can learn something from not tolerating garbage. IMO, and this is only one case, Dahlin should sit a game. Too many gaffes. Yes he is just a teenager, but a teenager needs discipline. If your kid misses curfew they are grounded. If a Dman regardless of age continues to screw up they should sit. Send the player and the team a message. If not then everyone starts to think they can get away with stuff and next thing you know you go from a 10 game streak straight to hell.
