  1. It has absolutely affected the signing of many players. Big time.
  2. The Mets don't get the Nats first rounder. They get a comp pick at the end of the first round. Also, the MLB's comp pick rules are the dumbest thing. They need to scale that back and are expected to in the next CBA. It's a major deterrent for so many players.
  3. I loooooooooved Barkov.
  4. Nothing new but this random channel I've never heard of (FM) has been playing Dexter since Christmas. One season per day starting at noon. I can't stop watching. This is my second time watching and it still blows me away... Well at least the first four seasons. But season five is today and boooooooyyyyyy does it suck. Such a let down after my favorite season in television history. Season six returns the show to greatness. Tom Hank's son Colin plays the antagonist killer very well. Season seven has some quality plot in there (Ray Stevenson is a great temporary addition). Then season eight is just a terrible finish to a great show. They've talked about a reboot of this... I hope they do it. Maybe give it two more seasons. End it the way it should've ended in the first place.
  5. We play Washington three times this season - all three in a 20-day span.
  6. Agreed. There's cause for concern if these ways continue for a few more years, but it's still so very early in the process. I made a small edit because my first sentence didn't make sense. PSA: it's okay to be negative about your favorite teams. Loyalty isn't measured by how positive you are about everything. You can absolutely hate just about every member of the organization and be just as loyal as somebody who loves them all.
  7. It seems like those pushing back against any negativity about the Pegulas, Sabres and/or Bills are getting louder/more confident in themselves. There's a ton to be negative about. The honey moon phase doesn't need to go on. However, I think it's unfair to call them "over their head." They're still very new to the whole thing. I imagine they'll learn that the meddling can't continue and will put decision makers in place who can control everything on the actual team talent side of things. None of us have ever spent this much money on something. I imagine it's hard to not want control, but sports are a different business entirely where you can't have success constantly choking everything. Let it live on its own and you will find success. Note - didn't read the article, just impressions from it.
  8. Murph, in my opinion, is a shining example of what happens if you stay in one place and play it safe long enough that people will start calling you a legend.
  9. I didn't know he was the director for that episode. It brings me great joy to know this. My favorite episode is actually Crawl Space but that's more because of the acting than the writing/directing. Can't wait.
  10. Yuck. Injuries are up there but THIS, this is my least favorite excuse.
  11. As far as DVOA this is how Rex's defense rank: 2005 (BAL) - 6 2006 (BAL) - 1 2007 (BAL) - 5 2008 (BAL) - 2 2009 (NYJ) - 1 2010 (NYJ) - 5 2011 (NYJ) - 2 2012 (NYJ) - 9 2013 (NYJ) - 12 2014 (NYJ) - 21 2015 (BUF) - 29
  12. Good points. I expect a pretty decent shake up of the defense. Mario, Kyle, Leodis, Bradham and maybe Graham out. All will need to be replaced plus some other spots. He's got his corners but he doesn't have a big safety or the pass rush. The Jags just announced Gus Bradley will remain the head coach next season. Bradley is 12-35 as a head coach with them... And I think this is absolutely the right move. If Rex fails then I think the Bills need to take a similar route. Clean out the front office and coaching staff. Start completely anew with a young GM/HC. Guys who have respect and connections in the league as up and comers. Then tear down what's left of the roster at that time. Build it up and be totally patient with the new regime. The timeline of this is what's the real question. Is it playoffs are bust for both Rex and Whaley next season? I believe it should be, but I don't know that it will be.
  13. Polian said he's not interested in anything more than the occasional consult, and I think (hope) that boat has sailed. I don't think any changes are coming, honestly. It's probably the right move because they need to make sweeping changes or nothing at all. Whenever the next regime comes in I want them all to come in together so we know we're getting people who have a similar vision.
  14. Sam Gagner and Scott Gomez on waivers.
  15. Whaley on Tyrod this morning: Whaley: "You have a team that has a possibility - and I stress possibility - of having a quarterback in the future" Whaley on Taylor: "It's going to be a maturation process...if he can start moving around in the pocket and finding throwing lanes" Whaley on whether the Bills will pick a QB: "We'll draft the best player available." On the defense: (1/2) Whaley said this AM inconsistency w/D due to Rex adjusting scheme to players & players adjusting to Rex was big reason for struggles (2/2) Yet when asked if finding guys that fit system was important, he said not main focus since D showed flashes of dominance.. Huh? #Bills
  16. Going to take a slightly different angle at the roster/needs breakdown heading into the offseason. Probably doing it for my own entertainment, but that's fine. Here's what I think the roster will look like purely with the obvious keepers (bolding positions we're set at): QB – Tyrod Taylor RB – LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams (keep Mike Gilislee) WR – Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, Marcus Easley TE – Charles Clay (add backups) LT – LG – C – Eric Wood (add backups) RG – John Miller (add backups - he'll get another chance after bad rookie year) RT – DE – Jerry Hughes DT – Marcell Dareus OLB – Manny Lawson, Randell Johnson, AJ Tarpley MLB – Preston Brown, Tony Steward CB – Stephon Gilmore, Ronald Darby, Nickell Robey, Mario Butler (add backups) SS – Aaron Williams (add backups) FS – Bacarri Rambo (re-sign) K – P – Colton Schmidt (re-sign) LS – Garrison Sanborn We don't actually have THAT many needs and have several backups that we can, will and should keep. This is just a list of the guys with defined rolls on next year's team likely already locked in. So let's look at the position not bolded above: QB - This is going to be mostly backups, but Whaley's comment about finding the QB of the future looms large. I expect a vet and a draftee. 5 options: Connor Cook (Rd 1 - Mich St), Carson Wentz (Rd 1/2 NDSU), Christian Hackenberg (Rd 3/4 Penn St), Matt Schaub, Case Keenum WR - They need another top target and then some depth guys. 5 options: Tyler Boyd (Rd 2 - Pitt), Sterling Shepard (Rd 2 - Oklahoma), Leonard Hankerson, Jermaine Kearse, Chris Hogan LT - The obvious move here is to re-sign Cordy Glenn. It'll be expensive but he's worth it. Franchise tag could be an option. 5 options: Cordy Glenn, Russell Okung, Kelechi Osemele, Ronnie Stanley (Rd 1 - ND trade up), John Theus (Rd 2/3 - UGA) LG - Another obvious move: re-sign Richie Incognito. His contract will be interesting. Does Buffalo giving him a chance earn a discount? 5 options: Richie Incognito, Alex Boone, JR Sweezy, Vadal Alexander (Rd 2 - LSU), Spencer Drango (Rd 3 - Baylor) RT - Seantrel Henderson's disease only further adds to his struggles on the field. They'll need a new starter. 5 options: Jack Conklin (Rd 1 - Mich St), Taylor Decker (Rd 1/2 - Ohio St), Vadal Alexander (Rd 2 - LSU, versatile), Mitchell Schwartz DE - I highly doubt Mario Williams is brought back. Ineffective and upset with the team. They'll need to look hard here. 5 options: Muhammad Wilkerson (too expensive probably), Jason Jones, Robert Ayers, Shaq Lawson (Rd 1 - Clemson), Carl Nassib (Rd 2 - Penn St) DT - I don't see them bringing back Kyle Williams. Corbin Bryant has been a huge present here. They need to bring him back. 5 options: Corbin Bryant, Stefan Charles, Brandon Mebane, Mike DeVito, Robert Nkemdiche (Rd 1 - Ole Miss STEAL if he slips for marijuana bust) OLB - They're going to need to work some magic with the linebacking corps. Bradham looks like a one year wonder of a bad fit. Or both. Lawson needs to stick around, though. 5 options: Bruce Irvin, Noah Spence (Rd 2 - EKU), Su'a Cravens (Rd 1/2 - USC), Delon Jones (Rd 2/3 - LSU),Travis Feeney (Rd 4/5 - Washington) FS - Rambo reminds me a lot of Jim Leonhard. Creates turnovers but isn't great all-around. They could go committee here. 5 options: Louis Delmas, Rashad Johnson, Jalen Mills (Rd 2/3 - LSU), Deon Bush (Rd 3/4 - Miami) Jordan Lamox (Rd 4/5 - Iowa) K - Dan Carpenter is still a viable option here, but they could consider a move here. I don't know that they'll want to spend big money on two of my options, though. 5 options: Dan Carpenter, Justin Tucker, Mason Crosby, Greg Zuerlein, Roberto Aguayo (Rd 2 AH KICKER DRAFT) This was all put together pretty quickly. Didn't put much thought into fit, just some guys I like early on.
  17. Willing to engage the media ethics discussion here, uninterested in engaging the thread topic... There is no buying of info going on. There are relationships within these organizations. There are very few perks to giving information, but if an organization isn't tight with information it certainly widens the web of those in the know... Buffalo isn't a huge city and is chock full of people who are from here or have been here for a very long time. You're bound to catch a few people within who know members of the media. And the next time you see law enforcement puff pieces you can think back to "sources." The old movie scene where a reporter in a trench coat hands a cop a wad of cash at a discreet location isn't an accurate depiction of what's happening with these stories. There's also a strange desire to be a "source." People want to give information and put it out there. While they're not being named it still gives them a rush of some sort. Or a satisfaction knowing that somebody on television is rehung on you for what they're reporting. I'd imagine it's a similar mindset to anonymous or fake Twitter accounts. Many stories, I'm not sure about this one specifically, start out as some random pedestrian who is a friend of a member of the media telling them they saw a police presence or heard some rumors at a restaurant or whatever. I have no clue how the early stages of this specific case's reporting went. Employees in the building were informed the police were there because his car broke down. Now obviously that's a silly explanation for police being there, but it certainly could've started further investigation/questioning.
  18. I know it's a great game but I'm still bitter. Plus I'm pretty well over the humans killing humans games except Call of Duty (which is the ultimate humans killing humans game), but I only play it as a means to keep in touch with my brother. Since we're not getting a new Jak I might buy the Ratchet and Clank for PS4 when it comes out. Never played that series but I imagine it's similar.
  19. Screw The Last of Us. Never played it. Never will. I have an unjustified hate for that game purely because it started as a Jak & Daxter project and then warped into The Last of Us over time... Although the early art for the Jak & Daxter game might actually mean that scrapping the project was a blessing in disguise.
  20. Per reports, the Bills have claimed WR Leonard Hankerson from the Pats. He's a good depth WR, but this move is mainly to troll the Pats who apparently planned to re-sign him once he cleared waivers. He's a free agent after this season, but I like the idea of trying to sign him for another season. There's also a lot of talk that the Bills may target a WR in the first or second round this year, as well.
  21. I'm surprised the "Kylo Ren is a good guy" theory hasn't sprung up here... The theory would essentially be the opposite of Darth Vader's arc, too. I don't know the theory well, but I heard it once and thought it has some potential. Some key points off the top of my head that would support or be part of this theory: - He worships Vader's broken up helmet. Ya know, the one Luke removed just after Vader saved his life. A turn for the good. - He had a few important characters well within his grasp and didn't kill them. A few "mistakes" has cost the First Order big time. - The moment where he kills Han was a bit drawn out and dramatic. He begged his father for help as he didn't know what to do. Han supported him and placed his hand on his saber. Then he kills Han swiftly. Like Snape killing Dumbledore it could all be a part of the plan to infiltrate the First Order and kill the dark side once and for all. - He seems to have an issue with many of the members of the First Order. I don't think this is real and also wouldn't mind a truly evil main character for once, but it's an interesting thought. An elaborate plan from the start to get him within the First Order as a means to finally and ultimately end them. I think the theory originated from this all-caps rant: http://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/Star-Wars-Force-Awakens-Theory-About-Kylo-Ren-39515387
  22. shouldn't we avoid the use of any c***tals in this thread?
  23. Ryan Fitzpatrick sharted during the postgame presser https://www.facebook.com/FOXSportsLive/videos/1210825565614274/
  24. Also true. Forgot the Broncos hadn't clinched yet.
  25. The only way the Steelers get in is with a win and a Jets loss. Jets are a game up on them but Pittsburgh has the tiebreaker.
