  1. No, it doesn't. But your post escalated things by an order of magnitude talking about the grand wake of destruction that these things leave behind. Just like Brett Kavanaugh's life was going to be ruined by a "baseless" accusation...as just a month later he's sworn into a lifetime position as one of the most powerful people in the country and welcomed as a conquering hero to a Federalist Society gala. Meanwhile, his accuser's life has actually been upended as she's had to relocate multiple times due to security and still can't return to work. But yes, things like power and privilege are merely academic constructs by the liberals to wreck the lives of people they disagree with.
  2. Yup. Same. I once screamed "I love this team!" without any regard for strongly suspecting it wasn't sustainable. Didn't do anything to reduce my enjoyment in the moment. It's weird to me it does ruin it for some. Something about true happiness coming from within and not needing external validation. (Now THAT was condescension!)
  3. If being able to do anything about it is the measure of valuable content, you should just close this place down. I understand the meta point you're making, it we also can't do anything about trades, or prospect development, or anything else really. Plenty of posts dump on the notion of prospects and patience because they haven't prove anything yet...should we also clamp down on those posts because they might ruin the enjoyment for someone who likes following prospects from draft to the big show?
  4. When the team is actually good, you'll have plenty of data points doing exactly this. And not for nothin, but I don't need stats to tell you the 10 game winning streak was unsustainable. All I have to do is point to Sobotka and Okposo playing anything more than 10 minutes per game. How many times does this actually happen versus you just perceiving it happens? Maybe in the day or two after a game, but so immediately after that it ruins you enjoyment of the win? I suspect it's quite rare. And do you honestly think the stats crew are the only condescending bunch? If I had a dollar for every "but his corsi" or "face offs don't matter I guess (after a win leads to something)" or "some loser in his mom's basement" I wouldn't have to worry about the job market.
  5. Being a white male is oh so hard in this world. ???
  6. I always find it weird that everyone is doing it, yet somehow only one team has been caught. Twice. Funny, that. I think Belichick is the best coach of all time and Brady is one of the 3 best QBs of all time irrespective of any...ahem...extracurriculars. But getting caught cheating twice to the tune of over a million dollars in fines and a 4 game suspension shouldn't be so easily brushed aside.
  7. Honestly I'm not even mad. I'm looking forward to watching him play.
  8. It really is hard to believe anyone can have observed the Pegulas' ownership of both franchises and still even muse that money would be a barrier to action.
  9. Yes, because no teams made up that much ground on us to pull ahead. Look, I don't think we're going to make the playoffs. But the season is hardly over.
  10. I'm not saying it was a masterpiece of cinema or anything, but I thought it was a lot of fun and didn't take itself too seriously. I also have a weird love of the legend of Atlantis, so the whole thing worked for me.
  11. I'm certainly not going to predict it, and I won't even argue it's fair, but this is the type of game that can get a coach fired.
  12. I thought Solo was a ton of fun. I think it's my favorite of the new movies. Speaking of fun movies, I really liked Aquaman. DC's best effort this side of Wonder Woman.
  13. The best part is when you juxtapose this comment against him saying "they have a long way to go" when they narrowed the deficit to 3-2.
  14. I feel oddly interested in watching the rest of this game. Oh, right, I'm procrastinating writing a program assessment proposal. Nevermind, my interest in bad hockey makes sense.
  15. In fairness, Chiarelli traded both Seguin and Hall for...not much.
  16. Nugent-Hopkins and Puljujarvi, depending on price, both interest me. Of course, assuming they're all in on making the playoffs, I can't imagine they move RNH for anything I'd be interested in.
  17. I think we're all missing the larger point: we need Botterill to trade with Chiarelli. It's almost impossible to lose!
  18. Maybe this would be a good argument if any of their other top forward picks had busted. But the worst one is Nugent-Hopkins, and he's really good!
  19. First, thanks for spelling it out like that. When framed this way, the angst makes a lot more sense to me. As for how I think I'll feel if they finish with 82 points despite the streak, I'll be mildly disappointed. It'd be hard for me to crush them for ending up about where I expected, but at the same time being significantly better than I expected for 10 games shouldn't necessitate they fall short of expectations for the other 72.
  20. I still can't believe Yakupov ended up being a total bust. I would get that he never reaches star status because of his low hockey IQ, but his skills and hustle should have at least produced a useful player in the middle of a lineup. He even had a super promising rookie (half) season!
  21. You may not like the idea, but a whole lot of people are seemingly shocked and dismayed that a team that won 10 in a row could proceed to be mediocre thereafter. To me, it was not only predictable, but a reasonable expectation. It's why seasons aren't measured in 10 game chunks, or even 20 game chunks. Wanting them to be better, or thinking it's appropriate to be better at this stage in the rebuild, is totally fair. But I really don't understand looking at this roster and really thinking they're better than a bubble team in the best case, whether that judgment is based on a pre-season assessment or something from the streak.
  22. It needs to stop because you disagreed with it before the season? Nonsense. Myself and a whole lot of others thought the low-to-mid 80-point range was the likely outcome. So from my point of view, yes, this is an "NHL .500" team that fell into the playoff race.
