The condition is not a real issue. It will not be top 10, well extremely unlikely anyway. They obviously think very highly of Levi. He showed well in the WJC. I do believe that the Sabres hands were tied and Sam told them I will sign in a year with either Vancouver, or Seattle, when I am UFA. Sam was jerked around by the Sabres, IMO.

He is a good player and he is playing for his first UFA contract at that time. I don't think his mind flipped either. I think he stated this much even at the start of last season. I think he was pissed with all the bridge deal stuff too.

There has to be something more to this ... like Samson said he would not sign long term with any team right now and wants to test the market in a year. Maybe the return is so little that there is a background deal that Sam will sign with the Sabres long term in a year. There as to be something like that.

They must really think the Levi kid is the real deal. He looks promising, but at 19 he won't play for the Sabres for another 3+ years.

I believe this is the reason why the Seth Jones trade was finalized before the draft. An expension needed to be worked out, but still can't be signed officially until Wednesday ... UFA day.

Good. I look forward to the day when this kid is a star in this league. In the end I think this guy will be a great #3 (top end of 2nd pairing) with a shut down partner. Rasmus II top pairing with another shut down partner and the Sabres are set on D for the next 10+ years.
