I don’t see the appeal the Sabres would have in a 30 year old Smith, an okay prospect in Krebs, a projected bottom pairing D in Hague, and a 1st that would probably be near the dead end of the 1st round. 🤷‍♂️

The June bugs are once a year, in July. He might have meant the 17-year cycle cicadas. They’ve been an internet sensation this year. The Sabres got Perreault in 1970, Turgeon in 1987, Eichel in 2015, Dahlin 2018? That’s a 16 year cycle, so I guess Buffalo isn’t too far off.

There’s little chances this team has Cozens, R2, Bryson, and Samuelsson in the AHL. KA himself said that he feels the better prospects will learn best by getting beat up in the NHL. The Amerks will still be fielding a very fun team to watch, though.

KA needs to hold on to his ask for the 4 pieces. A top prospect, a decent prospect, a prospect that the other team has soured on, and a 1st. There’s probably only a 36% chance any of those 4 pieces become an Eichel, so it’s not an unreasonable ask. It’s more likely we end up with a Reinhart, 2 Grigorenkos, and a Mike Funk.

I’m happy that the team MIGHT finally be doing it the right way. I’m also happy that I’ll most likely be able to score great seats for very cheap to bring my dad and daughter to a couple games.

I have a sneaking suspicion that after he is traded, his tune will miraculously change about his surgery demand.

I would like Nick Foligno for this role, but I’m sure he’s probably only looking for a competitive team to sign with. This is probably true for all of the veteran leadership types. The Sabres would likely be relegated to someone nobody else wants, but still wants to squeak out 2 more years for some money. Buffalo no longer has the “hey you could play on a line with Eichel” card they used to lure in Skinner and Hall.

Ovi is destined to help the Sabres to a Cup. Maybe in 4-5 years.
