Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
LTS replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
Being able to operate openly certainly allows for a certain speed to be achieved especially when the movement is young and hasn't had to hide itself. Now it does, but yes, over time I believe that the rally last Wednesday would have been just as large regardless of the platform they used to organize it. The only difference would be the difficulty intelligence agencies might have in discovering that the rally would occur and preparing for it. Not sure I am following your question. I'll take a stab. Eventually those who want to find information will. There are those whose interests are piqued enough by happenstance or simply because some algorithm thinks they might want to see some radical post that could pull them in. The latter is the what you hope shutting down social media accounts really impacts. But last summer I was getting Donald Trump ads on Youtube. Disturbing Trump ads no less that were clearly propaganda. That's the stuff you want to block because there is a decent contingency of people who will believe any well produced propaganda or at least will want to learn more and then might become a believer. But, by forcing the organizational groups underground you do make the infiltration of those groups easier. Given the current capabilities of these groups I'm not too concerned but it is inevitable that someone with the right charisma and intelligence rises to the top and can lead a group like this to be quite disruptive. You hope it doesn't happen... but history would indicate otherwise. -
Figured I should share this.. https://cardiaccane.com/2020/09/24/carolina-hurricanes-mike-maniscalco-to-officially-take-over-play-by-play-duties/ Mike is a Buffalo native. He went to Kenmore East. I knew him and his brother from attending at the same time and I met his future wife before he did when we both attended Geneseo. She's also from Buffalo. Williamsville East I believe? He beat cancer recently and took over PBP last year in the playoffs when Forslund stopped calling games. Looks like he did a bang up job and earned the job for this season. Pretty damn cool.

Pretty sure it was @26CornerBlitz who had a ton of solid GDTs. There are many others who have done a bang up job as well.

Hack? it could be difficult. infiltrate? easy. That said, this is the hard part about cutting off the open and easy access communication channels. Sure, by removing things like parler and other items it reduces the influence on the general public, but I'm convinced people will find the new encrypted sites just as handily if they go looking for it. Now it's just harder for the people who watch over them to gain access. -
Damn.. I posted this in the training camp before I saw you post it here. When I saw it the post had not attributed the original tweet it came from.

They do, but MSG or the NHL keeps putting in rules that are tying their service to the "cable" company. I would really call it any service aggregator as that is what Fubo, Charter, DirecTV all are at this point. They are all about creating the packages that people want for a price that makes them money. It's going to continue to be ridiculous as each content producer finds their way in the world. We're seeing that happen right before our eyes with CBS All Access, Peacock, Disney+/ESPN+/Hulu+, Discovery+ (or whatever they are calling it). The NHL needs to adapt to this as well because MSG can't stand on its own. While people are cutting the cord not many are moving to YouTubeTV, HuluTV, Sling, Fubo, etc. because they are content subscribing to Netflix, Amazon, Disney, HBO, CBS, etc. I will be using Fubo to get the Sabres this year. Spectrum would charge me $12.99 broadcast surcharge and $8.99 set top box fees on top of all the regular programming charges. For the few months I need it I would rather pay slightly more to Fubo than pay $22 per month to absolutely ridiculous fees. You also get more from Fubo. Ultimately though, the NHL needs to shore up its NHL.tv product and make that unrestricted.

Does Jack need a new nickname?

Good lord.. talk about stretching the limits. That's just stupid.

The NMC is huge, but it was required to get him apparently. That said, the market will be different and a player who is not playing will waive that clause. He will still get paid, but he wants to play and someone who wants to pair him with the center they have to maximize his production will pay to get that "top ES scorer" that people keep touting. I agree with this. A shortened camp and no preseason means that you have to make moves quickly. Skinner didn't adapt as fast as he should and he's moved down. it doesn't mean he won't move back or that some other player won't suddenly make a 3rd line with good scoring potential a reality. You keep apologizing for Skinner. Everything Krueger said indicated they had been communicating about things and the expectations. He's not throwing Skinner under the bus here. He's explaining, so people can understand why Skinner is sliding down the depth chart. That much was going to be obvious to anyone, so there has to be an explanation. For me the explanation is pretty bland but it speaks volumes. Bottom line, others are doing what is expected of them, Skinner is not. I don't even think it's just his defensive play. Does he even look interested in the offensive zone? What Skinner will do is pure speculation. I think we all want him to adapt and be the productive player he can be. Right now, he's not that. They commented on Ruotsalainen being fatigued. Clearly it stood out enough that they commented on it. Is it true? I don't know. Is it some line of garbage meant to justify their move? I don't know. I think there is an aspect of.. 56 games, every game counts and proven assets get the first nod. The shuffling of players will likely be a very real thing with the condensed schedule. I think players, more than usual, will get their chances to show themselves in games.
-
Those words say everything I need to know about Skinner right now. Yes, the owners allowed the large contract, so be it. They aren't going to let his $9M contract dictate the team. It's clear that's the message being sent. There doesn't appear to be any players too concerned about where Skinner is at in the lineup. I think the team is on board with where things are and Skinner will have to face the facts soon. His contract is big, no doubt, but as we've said, good GMs find a way.

Yes. You have the right to file a lawsuit. It doesn't mean it will go anywhere. Twitter owns its platform and has an Acceptable Use Policy. Trump violated that policy and was subjected to the rules. But as was said, its not really gone. -
Is he playing well? What is he showing out there? What message do you send to the team if you promote a talented but selfish player to a top line and demote someone from that line who is working hard? I would bet good money that if Jack thought Skinner should be up on a higher line, or Staal, or Hall they would say something to Krueger. Right now I don't think anyone is saying anything and Skinner isn't doing anything to make him promotion worthy. There's an assumption that moving Skinner up will result in more offense, but perhaps that is not the case.
-
Conversely, Skinner is getting paid $9M to play like he is an NHL player and not a whiny brat. Skinner does nothing to help himself. When he hasn't gotten his way he lets his play drop off. if he were truly offended by the demotion why wouldn't he be out there proving everyone wrong? You want to blame the organization, and you can for the contract. That GM is gone now. The level of play by the player is squarely on the player themselves and no one else. Skinner needs to step it up. Bottom line. or perhaps he'll be upset enough to waive his NMC and someone will take him.

Right.. but until the tweets are deleted they are out there.. and when people take screenshots they remain out there. No big deal, there are plenty of blowhard twitter accounts out there. Well, they aren't going to admit defeat either. I can only imagine the behind the scenes benefits those people get for staying on board. They didn't know them to be untrue in this case. They don't know there was no fraud. If they knew there was no fraud that would mean they had access to things they should not have had access to. However, the chances of there being any truth to it was slim. Yep. As it should have been. -

Players slamming some Blues after the game. 🙂 -
Sure, but if you look at schedules I'm not sure where the openings are to fit in any other games without trying 3 games in 3 days, etc. Double-header? One game played at 10am and another at 7pm? The 10am isn't going to due the broadcast viewership much good. hard to say all around. To me they call up the next players and go.

He can't acknowledge that any more than a GM can acknowledge he's about to fire a coach. Sure one is the international stage of politics and effects the leadership of our country but fundamentally its the same thing. If you are trying to win at something you can't come out and says "It's really just a joke and I don't expect to win." I care. The message has to be sent that these actions are not tolerable, at any point. Yeah.. and Trump was back in a few minutes posting as POTUS on Twitter. Won't amount to much. Real action is required and unfortunately I do not have faith that politicians will rise up to make it happen. Ultimately politicians cower away from taking meaningful action. Politicians by and large lack any real leadership capability and are more a group of compromisers and manipulators. Its a rare politician that can truly lead and make those tough decisions that serve the country and not themselves. -
I'd rather the league just give teams who can't ice a team the "L" in the schedule and move on. With the jammed schedule already any changes in schedule are going to have significant ramifications and it will only get worse if the game that was moved suddenly needs to be moved again because the other team had infections. It's a tough way to operate, but these are tough times.

That's correct. The Sabres wanted him back in Germany to develop.

Sincerity doesn't have much to do with it. They had the right to do it and they took advantage of that right. Accepting their right to file the lawsuits does not mean you give Trump the benefit of the doubt. To me it means I accept the rights afforded to Americans under the rules we have in place and that we should be stating that they are not within their rights or that we should constrain those rights. Good men don't take away the rights of others because they do not agree with them. Those rules might need to be changed, but at the time, those are the rules. 100%. This is why Congress needs to act against Trump even if there's no chance of the action succeeding before he's out of office. They need to send a clear and strong position that actions like this are not tolerated and have serious consequences. This is both for the citizens of this country as well as sending messages to those in other countries who are laughing their ***** off at us. I love this response. This is a great example of how we can talk to each other and guide each other to understanding. -
Could we just let players pick their own songs and be done with it. well, then people can criticize the players choices and not the club itself.

I also agree that people are more politically engaged than before and I think its growing. In a strange twisted way I believe the election of Trump actually encouraged that engagement. I still don't believe they are engaged enough. The problem is not just at the Presidential level. There is also a difference of being engaged and I suppose being intelligently engaged. A lot of people who are engaged are simply following their associated groupthink. The escapist entertainment and celebrity issue is not purely an American issue, of course not. But at this point 50 years ago I dare say it was an issue in this country. Prior to television perhaps it was less so. You can think the ability to share images in real time as helping that. Other countries are other countries and they are completely different social beasts with different cultural norms. I am not going to try and associate them because its very hard to do so. I do think, much like political engagement, there are a lot of people who do want to understand each other. The problem is that there is an old school who does not want that to change. They do not want equality for those who are not white. They do not want to face their racism. They believe that the American way of life is synonymous with the White way of life (whatever that is). Those people are the ones who continue to sow the seeds. The problem is that today the few that want to hold on to those ways label anyone who speaks against it with an extreme tag. Are you anti-American/ Are you anti-Law Enforcement? Naturally those who are solid critical thinkers know that's absolute trash. But, and as you suggest, there is a large portion of the population who do want to question what they are being told. They believe the labels because they have associations with Law Enforcement or Republicans or Democrats and they don't want to think critically about their association. It's much easier to just believe the label or to dismiss it with the "It's not a problem here, in my town." I believe a lot of people strongly believed that in Buffalo and Rochester. Then you see a video of the police pushing down an older gentleman in Buffalo and you have the Daniel Pride death in Rochester and I think (hope?) it opens eyes. But.. yes.. a lot of people refuse to listen. They don't want to hear a contrarian opinion. They are as closed off as those who are spewing the contrarian opinion in most cases. You end up with two people(sides) shouting at each other and no one listening. Where's the sense in that? It's not generous, its accurate. My reference to the election fraud situation goes back to the specific interactions on this forum regarding the lawsuits being filed and the claims that anyone who presented an opinion that Biden had not yet won the election were sowing the seeds of discontent. The claim made by Eleven is that those who said that are responsible for what happened yesterday. It had nothing to do with overall statements made by the criminal in office. The conversation was not about what Trump said. It was about the fact that Joe Biden can be declared the victor of an election by media agencies but that does not make him the winner. The process is the process and he is the winner when the process ends. Until then, the legal means of fighting election results are afforded to all Americans and to question their use of them is to suggest Americans should not use all legal means available to them to achieve their goals. It's not just a statue that is convenient for when you it aligns with your thinking. It's the way we do things whether it works for you or against you. I don't like Trump. I didn't like him when he was nothing more than a failed businessman and wasn't even yet a TV celebrity. I sure as hell did not like that the Republican party trotted him out as their candidate. I despise his very existence. But I respect that he can say what he wants (within legal reasons) and he is afforded the right to file lawsuits. I don't have to like it and I want nothing more than for him to be convicted of breaking the law but that's out of my hands. I can only say that I believe he should be convicted and I can put pressure on my representatives (although living in NY most of our representatives would already want that). -

This should not be a surprise. Parents sue schools because their kids don't get picked for a sport or the school play. They run out and start alternate sports organizations when their kids don't make a team. Our culture is full of examples of people who don't accept they didn't have what it takes and then make excuses about it. It was bound to make it to the highest level at some point. Our government is a reflection of the us. You are right though, it's absolute BS. There is a difference. The fact of the matter remains that when the discussion over fraud was happening the facts were that the people filing lawsuits had the right to do so and until those lawsuits were concluded there was no definitive outcome. There was a most likely outcome and that was acknowledged. The facts are that there is a process to the certification of the votes and the completion of that process signifies the end. It was not fiction. Claiming that it is fiction is as baseless as claiming that there was election fraud. As for the person who died. I don't know enough about the situation. Why was she there? Was she part of the protest? I don't know. You certainly didn't know at the time you wrote this. You have been emotionally charged over the entirety of the discussion on the Presidential election. It is understandable. However, it does not mean those who do not agree with you are wrong. It does not mean that they are inciting riots or encouraging terrorism. The entire discussion was around the rights of those people to use the court system to contest the election. That's a conversation about the rights of Americans. Anyone saying they did not have that right was arguing against the rights of Americans. I will continue below. Are you claiming that Sabres0311 knows how these terrorists would act? You are lumping him into this group and that's patently unfair. He has not indicated any association with them. Much like we prognosticate how a player will play on the ice or a GM will make trades, we don't know, we have hope. It is not up to him to insure there is a peaceful protest any more than it is up to you. Simply claiming this demonstrates a lack of understanding of the situation. As I have said, these are highly emotional and inflammatory times and those who fall victim to it will find themselves attacking each other verbally or physically. There is no benefit to this. Once you move to those actions you cease to be engaged in an environment of discussion, debate, education, and understanding and instead are only interested in destroying. it does not matter what your political leanings are, it is wrong. ---------------- Now, I'll comment on yesterday. It is clear that this country has an issue. I am hopeful that actions like these prove to those who were on the fence just how wrong they've been. Whether it was being a Trump supporter, or refusing to acknowledge the racial double standards of law enforcement (and many others). If you had a group of BLM protesters standing in the street with weapons they would have been shot. Yesterday you had a large group of protesters (they were protesters at that time) standing around with weapons. Nothing happened. That's just one of many CLEAR examples of the racism that exists. Now, move to the even more egregious act of violating the sanctity of our government. Every person involved has literally become the terrorist that we've spent trillions on attempting to exterminate in other countries. There is no difference between what they did and any group of extremists in another country invading their government with force. Not ONE IOTA. Imagine if you will a world where China, who has heavy interests in the financial well being of the United States, invades the United States because they feel that Democracy is not longer being supported. A coup attempt has occurred and it is in their best interest to move in and makes things more stable. Imagine it.. it seems far fetched but it is exactly what the United States has done in Middle Eastern countries. The people of this country need to step the F back and recognize what path we're heading down. I'm not sure they will because today, sitting right next to my headline on the terrorist attack on our nation, was a headline saying Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are discussing divorce. That's the sick twisted BS that has led this country to where its at. A few pages ago Weave wanted to know how we get better political candidates? It starts with Americans being far more interesting in who is running their country and far less interested in what two celebrities are doing with their lives. Americans, by and large, are not interested in politics. It's too complicated and they write it off as broken and beyond repair. They choose to ignore it because fixing it is work and its much easier to claim its just beyond repair. They'll justify it by saying that their lives are okay, so it's not a big deal. As long as I can read about Kim and Kanye it must be okay. As long as I get my person in office the next time it will fix things. It's the lies we tell ourselves to help ourselves sleep at night. If nothing else I hope that yesterday was a punch the punch in the fact that breaks people out of their pacifistic attitude towards government. For all those who want to Make America Great Again, or believed it was Great Already, yesterday was an insult. That was not America, that was the same type of event that we openly condemn when it happens in other countries. It's time to take off the red, white, and blue glasses and recognize that we are broken. We have been broken and we can no longer go on acting as though someone else will put it back together for us. Every American, if you believe in this country, should be standing up to the bullying tactics being enacted and punching that bully in the nose. Not physically, although physical action requires physical reaction. If you have not yet promised your house and senate representatives that if they do not take action against this criminal President you will vote them out of office (regardless of party affiliation) it should be the next thing you do. Make it known that your representatives already failed once at removing this idiot from the office. They failed the American people. All of them. They serve the citizens of this country, not the other way around. Yesterday was an attack on the foundations that make us the nation we are. It cannot be tolerated by anyone who considers this their country. There is no left or right, blue or red here. -
Still thought Cozens was one of the better players on the CAN team in this game. They seemed to rely more and more upon him. He was out there near the end of the game. He made some really good puck choices in his zone, under pressure. He's not going to knock people around, but he moves the puck very well and does not seem to panic. Ready? He's about as ready as he's going to be at this point in time. There was nothing wrong with him. He was dominant in this tournament among his peers. He's not going to dominate a game all by himself when playing in a game like last night. Canada fell down early and never recovered. They tried but failed.

Greasy/fatty food is the hangover cure. It's that simple. Garbage plates exist for this reason. 🙂
