  1. You could take it one step further. The owners get miffed and the same stone walling happens. GM shelf-life removed from the equation. Unless you are the Coyotes ownership doesn't change all that often. I get it.. I'd love to see it as well. I just don't think it will happen.
  2. The only way it can be consumed is with alcohol. And by that, I mean drink the alcohol and forget you left the eggnog on the counter so it goes bad and you have to throw it out.

  4. And this is exactly the kind of backwards thinking from executives at MSG that will kill their business. People don't care and they are leaving traditional TV offerings (including satellite) in mass numbers. This is similar to telecom companies who tried to hold onto copper assets for too long (although there are other factors in play there). Cable television is dead and being tied to that platform will result in negative hits to the regional network. MSG should want to maximize their viewing audience, not protect cable companies or satellite providers. The Sabres should want this as well. The Sabres are constrained on how much money they can make per home game. The seating capacity of the arena is fixed. I am sure they have a target ARPU but it's not like they can up the number of seats to increase the number of units they can sell per game. They too should be looking for that wider audience because they can then charge MSG more for a wider coverage. In addition, they can strengthen brand awareness and improve out of market merchandise sales. The key is not allowing anyone but MSG to produce/distribute the content. Single producer, multiple distribution channels leads to maximizing reach and ultimately revenues. But... nope. Let's tie ourselves to a medium that is declining at a rapid rate. Sigh.

  6. Half of those games are against other NY teams, I don't think your Cuomo jab rings as true as you might want. Boston is likely to be equally shutdown as NY. That ;eaves Pittsburgh. Nothing to see here in my opinion.
  7. The offer sheet, while intriguing, comes with consequences. If you, as a GM, utilize this tool (I refuse to use the term "weapon") you risk alienating GMs as a group. Sure, perhaps you get your player, but when you begin reaching out to other GMs to make a trade you might find the responses to be a bit cool or the demands to be a bit high. There's also the obvious expectation that other GMs might offer sheet your team back in retaliation but I don't see that as being as big a deal. I think it holds a lot of allure for the fans but ultimately it pans out to be nothing. The players probably thought it was a great idea to help drive up contracts but in practice it clearly falls flat.

  9. When I saw it I thought immediately it might be a buckle fracture. My son had almost the same type of encounter when he was 12. Open ice hit where the hand hits at a the perfect angle and jams up into the arm causing a small fracture. His could be worse, but man it looked so much like his hit that I thought it could be. It's bad news, no doubt.

  13. I did not. Just commenting to let you know that it didn't stand out to me or I didn't see it. Around the corner from where I grew up... all those were the days,. I had read about the Alaskan healthcare workers who had adverse reactions all appearing to be allergic in nature. Yesterday on a conference call at work there was discussion that the vaccine is not recommended for those with anaphylactic peanut allergies or potentially other similar allergies. Can any of the medical professionals shed light on that?
  14. Maybe I would find it somewhere.. but how did Buffalo clinch the #2 seed? Pittsburgh could win their last 2 and end up 13-3. Buffalo could lose one of their last two or both and end up 12-4 or 11-5 right? Wouldn't that drop them down?

With all due respect, could you have not introduced your data without taking a jab at a poster on the board? Your jabs are more likely to draw attention than your link and I don't think that's going to improve the conversational quality of the thread.

Either the NHL would/should create their own broadcast coverages or they should sell the license to cover the games of each team to a content producer (like MSG) who can then product a broadcast (I prefer this route). MSG would then syndicate the content to cable companies and would also own the online streaming rights. MSG could sell different packages world-wide. They could sell an MSG All Access, an MSG Sports Bundle, an MSG Team Package. The All Access provides access to ALL content of all teams plus other programming. The Sports Bundle could provide access to the live games and the Team Package could provide coverage a single team. MSG would own all the advertising and it would be uniform across streaming and cable distribution except for the limited "local" advertising slots. This path would maximize consumption as it would provide the most differentiation in pricing tiers. It solidifies MSGs revenue potential by controlling the advertising revenue (if they were smart they could regionalize their ad sales). The NHL could license the content back from MSG to be included in an NHL bundle but the production remains MSG as does all the advertising. The NHL benefits from the package pricing and brand awareness, MSG benefits from increase advertising eyeballs, brand awareness, etc. The NHL could have agreements with content producers to offer certain games for free via the NHL streaming services or other services (ala the National games) so they could use that avenue to build interest in lower end hockey fans/new hockey fans who are unlikely to shell out money specifically for hockey). Call it their showcase games of the weak or whatever. If #1 is totally accurate then the team could own the production rights over MSG (in my example above) and then license that out as they see fit. MSG can get on board or get bent. Spectrum could distribute the Sabres game on their local channel if they wanted to license it. They don't need MSG. As for #2... it would likely be more than $15/mo since there are limited cost efficiencies if the NHL produces all games. The NHL already charges more than $15 per month for its current package anyway. At $165 for a hair over 8 months of games it would be about $20/month. Probably still a deal and almost assuredly a deal if you can get ANY team at ANY time.

  18. Oops.. posted in the other thread. I did Sling out of the gate. I'll pull the trigger on Fubo when the NHL games start most likely.. or I will negotiate with Spectrum or something. Who knows.. that's a month away or so and feels like an eternity. 🙂
  19. Grabbed Sling. NFL Network so we can watch the Bills game today (thanks NFL for stupid rules keeping Rochester stations from buying the rights) and then the World Jrs.
  20. Right.. I might go that route. I might also go with Fubo because they have MSG+ and will have Sabres games. But I might hold off on that until we know there will be Sabres games. Center Ice does not get you NHL Network. It will also not get you Sabres games that are NBCSN. TV services, overall, are really at the point that it doesn't matter if you have cable or not. The prices are comparable. You can bounce around and get deals but eventually that will dry up as each service continues to just lose money because customers are doing that. The days of bundles streams or cable are coming to an end. Next year there are a slew of new streaming services popping up. It will be as near as a la carte as you will probably ever get. Won't necessarily cost you less. So, I think it'll be Sling for January.. and then adjust as needed.

  22. One of those two things is a bit easier to get through don't you think? You are either for it or against it with minimal guidelines on what can be placed and where it can be placed. The other involves managing logistics for 31 teams, hundreds of players, all mixed within the regulations of cities, states, provinces, and countries not to mention those rules are constantly changing. Unsolvable? I don't think so. Far more parameters that are continually changing to deal with? Yeah.. more difficult.
  23. Damn.. you have to think there's a good chance that he just won't play again. Not the way for someone who represented the game so well to go out. But health is a priority.. it has to be.
  24. So.. all the games will be on NHL Network is that right? Because I think I need to plan on how I am going to get NHL network now. Having your last two first rounders playing on the top line together on a squad made up of all first rounders cannot be a bad thing. If those two click it would provide some amazing potential for what the Sabres could look like in the near future.
  25. Indeed. But as we've tried to demonstrate in here. Civil discourse is encouraged. But this club won't allow social media standards of ignorant posting that lack substance. Like referring to Trump as Hitler. He's not and not even close. It's irresponsible to claim as such. Trump is an absolute piece of T.R.A.S.H. but he's not even close to Hitler. He might admire Hitler, especially in the social engineering department, but he's not committed the atrocities that Hitler did. That's the fine line we try and toe around here.
