I wouldn't necessarily call it foolish to trade away Reinhart for the right return. If the Sabres can get a top young defenseman for him it might be worth it. The Tavares watch will be interesting. If the Sabres are progressing as they should then his UFA status could come at the right time to put it all together. This makes Reinhart even less critical down the road. It's hypothesis of course because no one knows what Tavares would do but the Sabres would have to represent a very good opportunity for him at that time and they've got Okposo and Moulson as well. It matters and the Islanders don't look like they are going to be killing it any time soon.

It would be interesting.. but his system at the same time is causing them to give up a lot of goals and hasn't done anything for them in the standings. I suppose from an entertainment point of view it could be said the games are more entertaining because there's more scoring but at the same time there are a lot of bad goals given up which usually frustrates fans as well. If the Leafs can manage to outscore their opponents on a consistent basis by maintaining their scoring pace but reducing the goals allowed then I will be more impressed. One could argue that Buffalo has their talent pool a little further along but at the same time there have been some significant injuries that impact their current record. Imagine the Leafs without Matthews for 21 games and I wonder where they would be right now. I think Babcock is a great coach, but I'm not seeing perfection on the ice yet from his team.

It shouldn't be hard to keep the talk out of here. People just need to have discipline and respect. I'll hope to catch the tail end of this one. It's school concert season so I get to listen to the youth of America squeak their way into our hearts... (truthfully it should be better tonight as these are older kids who have played for some time). Be interesting to see live how the Panthers are handling all of the front office garbage... it can't be fun for the players right now.

Had it on tap the other night at Basin Pub. I'm not a vanilla fan in beer (or blueberries) but the mix of everything together worked well enough. I wouldn't go for a full bottle but it is a well put together beer. Basin Pub was holding its 3rd annual "Night of the Stouts" This was the tap list when I got there (I tried most of them in small samples)

Generally speaking the stick tapping is a terrible idea because anyone can do it. So, responding to someone tapping their stick in a typical game play situation would be idiotic if you are the player carrying the puck. I teach my kids to do it to the opposing team and it works fairly often. I think in the OT situation it's less of a circumstance because there are only 6 players on the ice and Okposo can see 4 of them. That said... you'd rather hear Risto yelling for the pass. This is why playing with the same guys over and over again is important because you need to pick out their vocal communications more than anything. And Risto is awesome.

Sold... and depending on where in Fairport you are it might not even be a far drive. I was going to put a big rink in my backyard but while coaching I am on the ice 3-5 times a week and there's just no time. Plus I have a pretty good grade in the back that would require some work... it's easy to freeze 3-4 inches... not 12-14.

I could be in fine form tonight after hanging out at the pub this afternoon and into the evening... Go Sabres.

Okay, so what are we arguing.. this specific occurrence or the concept of goalies being legally hit when outside of the crease? This hit, specifically, appears to be targeting the head and should be treated as the NHL would treat it. This hit, since it is illegal in the rule book, deserved the penalty that was called and the subsequent results. The concept that a goalie can go outside of the crease with no fear of being contacted is what I was discussing. If the rules are changed such that goaltenders can be checked when out to play the puck then I believe you'll see far less goaltender hits because they'll not wander behind the net and HOLD the puck knowing they won't get hit. Any player who stood behind the net like that would get absolutely blown up as well and it would be legal and it would have nothing to do with their inability to get out of the way.

A goaltender who is outside of the crease should be fair game for contact. If they don't like it the crease can be where they stay. They put the damn trapezoid in to prevent goaltenders from playing the puck and in turn attempting to increase the offense from it. If a goaltender didn't leave his crease then it could potentially lead to even more offense. The answer to the problem is simple. Don't leave the crease and you won't get checked. There's nothing insane about it. Why presume that a goaltender who acts as a 6th skater should not be treated like a 6th skater?

Ladd.. 4th liner for $5.5M. He's a great signing. I think Montreal signing Shaw was pretty stupid too. Lucic and Backes not as bad. Season to date I'd say yes... but ROR and Jack definitely are making a case.. and perhaps Risto now.

And he's doing that on a team that has the least proficient offense in the league... He might be important to the team.

For a team that's near the bottom on the PK I'm not sure being one of the better ones is the answer. He's really of little value to the team and I'm noticing Grant being less effective than he was early on.

The NHL needs to be brought to task on this crap of players jumping on, over, and around an injured player. There's no room for it. - a player goes down and you go after the guy who is still near the injured player you should be ejected and automatically suspended 5 games or more. Larsen was totally vulnerable there and he may have sustained more severe injuries had his idiotic teammate not skated right into his damn head. The NHLPA should be addressing that within their own ranks as well. It's a union... in theory. It's disgusting. Players have to be far more aware of what they are doing in that situation. One misstep and Larsen goes from unconscious to having his throat cut open. The hit itself was totally clean and needs to occur in hockey. You are going to get hit hard at times. You can't take it out of the game. Of all the hits that occur it's rare the result is similar to what we see in this situation. Larsen HAS to protect himself and his teammates have to warn him. If they did and he still got rocked then that's the way it goes.

Great as an ice cream topping but damned if you drink a whole one of those... too sweet.
