  1. I don't mind a company shifting the cost of their fines for environmental idiocy to the consumer. Hopefully it reduces everyone's desire to support that company. Plastic bags are nasty. Just plain nasty. Simply put we generate too much garbage. Even recyclable materials are only recycled part of the time. You can feel good about recycling until you find out most of it ends up in a landfill because the commodity market for recyclable garbage is down and no one wants to buy the waste. We buy too much... period. Our lifestyles have adopted to this and until we change we are in a cycle of destroying the planet. The concept of grocery shopping and storing food in containers for days to weeks creates waste. The concept of just picking up your pre-made food at Wegmans.. waste. It's nasty... I am guilty of over-consumption... but I am starting to try and change all of that.
  2. That's great news.... should be a good one.
  3. Woody... that's some great stuff. But you'll have to come home at least briefly for the SS meet. Yep... we're being greedy.

    Nice work...
  5. I'm going to go with hooray. Saw this on the iPad late last night in the hotel room.... just drove 10 hours... Bring on the pre-season..
  6. If your machine only meets the minimum requirements and the card is actually too old then my expectation is that the game will “run” but you won’t like how it runs. it will probably require running in the lowest resolution with most features dialed down or turned off to the point that it doesn’t look that good.
  7. Who's patting themselves on the back? No, but without a rumor or an actual move being made anything else is the most made up BS you can get. Okay, we can all rant on about a move should have been made but to rant about a move that should have been made without any evidence that a move could have been made, let alone one that benefits the Sabres is preposterous. Negativity? This is what I am trying to figure out. But all I have come up with is that Jason Botterill should have done something to improve the defense more than he has so far but the fact that it has not happened is purely his fault and of no fault of the other 30 general managers and the countless players who either did not want to trade or sign in Buffalo that would have solved the problem. If I am misinterpreting your assessment then please say so. i asked what trade/signing should the Sabres have made. You responded with something about rumors. I included rumors as a way of saying even the RUMORs (which are mostly garbage) are something I am willing to converse upon.
  8. What are you even referring to here? It seems like there is some attempt to insult me by referring to "ancient" Internet technology. Is this because I used the word search? I'd love to know what you were attempting to get at with your response.
  9. That's quite possible. Interesting statement about employers paying the least amount they can. It doesn't mean that they don't pay more than they think they should. After all, my employer pays me a wage that is the least amount they can and it's also the most I can demand from them. There's an insinuation in your phrasing that they would cut that money from the overall salary and tell me to stick it. Conversely, I know their budgets are already made based on the taxes that I used to have to pay. As such, they are not going to go broke if they meet me somewhere in the middle. There's a negotiation and we end up at a number. It will, by definition, be the least amount they can get away with and I will get the most I can get. Of course this assumes we each bargain to our fullest potential. Then again, even if we didn't... let's assume I am a bad negotiator. Someone else might be able to get another $5k out of the company, but I cannot. It is still the least amount relative to my situation. If you assume everyone is equal. Anyway.. a bit too philosophical now. ?
  10. I agree. But I am looking at what was rumored or what has transpired and I am not sure there's as much out there as there might have been last year. Making a trade means you have to find a defenseman who will still fit into your longer term plan. Scandella fit the plan. I'm not sure who else does that is available at the right price. I think if we want to critique him for a lack of moves we have to look at what is rumored to be available or what has transpired to see if the Sabres could have made a play. If there is no reasonable offer out there, it seems misplaced to lay blame at his feet. I looked at the trades and signings.. there are a few potential signings that might have been possible and perhaps a trade. I'm not sure those players are what they would be looking for though.
  11. Wow. I did a search to see if there were more details and there weren't. There's no real information to comment other than something happened and she claims to have suffered neck injuries. I can't even find what happened with the lawsuit. It's not enough to comment either way on and definitely doesn't lead me to believe he's abusive. This sounds like-- 1 - Harmless accident but also what happens when you have money. 2 - a tragic waste of beer (even if it's Budweiser) 3 - something I would do if I had the money to consider engaging in a tragic waste of beer.
  12. I honestly have no recollection of this. If there is any information on it I will gladly read it. If he abused his wife, physically or verbally, I would not let it go. Cheating is pretty despicable, but it's hardly rare. While it may be emotionally difficult to deal with for the one being cheated on, it's certainly a stretch, for me, from abuse. But, for the cheating thing... I'm okay if his wife is okay. I give him credit for turning his life around. I thought his speech was well delivered and meaningful. I'm definitely not going to go much farther than that with it.
  13. Thanks for sharing that. I suppose it's a good thing for a short statute of limitations. That's going to bring some real pain for the continuation of the unions' existence. It'll be very interesting to see how that case goes.
  14. As though a vote for the candidates of the Democratic or Republican parties was any more intelligent. At the very least both of those candidates had proven how unqualified they were for the position. I mean, unless you are counting just how entrenched they are in the political machine and nothing more than puppets. In which case, yeah, they were both qualified.
  15. I think the substantive difference for me is what you outline is what I would call corruption. Fundamentally, wealth (money) is being redistributed but I feel it's different when it's targeted to a single entity as opposed to an open program from which a wide pool of people can draw. That said, I'm not a fan of either because it takes money from me. Corruption is a massive governmental issue, and one that underscores why I want the government involved in less rather than more.
  16. I loved that part. I only wished they showed his next iteration of the drill to see if he responded. Being sarcastic myself, I appreciate a little good-natured sarcasm. At the same time, you want to see that the player got the message despite joking around.
  17. It certainly wasn't a topic in my circles. He abused the relationship, but I don't recall anyone ever saying he was physically abusive with her. It may have been verbal abuse but not really classified as such. Like I said, I'm just living on past memories of conversations with people who were in that circle.
  18. I think, that given no rumors or innuendo about abuse, it's a HUGE leap to get to that point, regardless of the other behaviors. He had a reputation as a party boy, not one of violence. Here's my take on this. I knew people who were around Jim Kelly during those times. He was unfaithful. He was an absolute jerk to be around. More than once time Kent Hull physically set him straight when he was not as giving as he should have been. I won't try to recall any stories at this point because it was long time ago and I might screw something up. All of that said, Jim Kelly was confronted about his behavior and owned it. Through some amount of introspection and with the assistance and support of his wife he changed his ways. She has forgiven him. By all accounts since then he's been a very different person. You can dislike Kelly for what he was in his prime as a football player. However, I think it's a stretch to insinuate he was a domestic abuser because of it. In addition, you can't discount his wife's actions in all of this. As far as I am concerned, she is the one who had to live with him and if she can forgive him, that's all that matters. It would appear he has changed as a person. I'd rather be happy for his change than to continue to attack him for what he used to be.
  19. I think the problem Botterill faces with trying to strengthen the D is that he will be forced to sign a mediocre player to a contract term that will have us complaining about it 3 years in because it's keeping other players who have developed out of the lineup. Any D who you sign for 1 year is not going to solve the problem. So that's the real question. Freeman suggested de Haan. In some way I was hoping it too. But, would you accept the Sabres signing him to the contract he signed? I think it would have hurt them in 2 years.
  20. The government paying a contract to provide value is not redistribution of wealth. Now, it may be a corrupt contract where more money than necessary gets spent on the contract, but there is a value being returned. Straight up government aid doesn't return value to the government. (Not saying it does not provide value to those who get it). Fair share is the term used, but it's an impossible term to quantify. Who gets to decide that? The other day a guy I know who is about 2 years younger (43) than me and makes $60K per year (as so stated by him) with no kids, no house was bitching about how the world makes it impossible to live on a single income. My friend and I, one of whom is a teacher and makes about $60K, scoffed at that notion. My family is a single income. My kid plays hockey, I have a house, etc. We are doing fine. Yes I make more than him, but I don't make that much more than him. My teacher friend, single family income, has two kids, one of them at University of Rochester. The point is... the friend bitching can be found at the bar or a restaurant for every meal. He probably spends on average $100 a day if not more on such things. Fair? It's his spending that is in question, not how much he's earning.
  21. You seemingly took that far more personally than it was intended. I'm not questioning anything about your statements or predictions. I'm legitimately curious. (and also concerned about your mental health!)
  22. This season is going to be interesting. I'm almost more interested in seeing how accurate you are over what the Sabres do. I have a fear that if they actually play well that your head may explode. So, there is a downside to this exercise. If they fail as you predict, then your depression will take greater hold. Hmmm, is there a possible positive outcome to this? ? The psychology of sport will certainly be an aspect of the team next season.
