  1. Yeah, someone should chg the title to say “Rick the dog”.
  2. And dying to be here. I think its just more evidence that the old core was over it.
  3. 1. I don’t know about stroke of genius. It seemed obvious to alot of us as long as you didn’t over think it. 2. Still wish we had ROR, but a successful Johnson reduces the sting. 3. We can only hope. He’s pretty central to near term success 4. I think the home vs away record is the result of having last change. He can better hide our warts at home. 5. Some of that is they are being featured above where they should be slotted. I think they’ll both develop into good bottom half of the lineup on good teams players 6. Hopefully its not shades of Bowman era Sabres, but I agree. 7. I’m leary of UPL at this point 8. who would have thought Thompson would revitalize at center. That bingo spot went unclaimed. 9. Promising
  4. You had to be there when they were relevant.
  5. Spin it any way you want. You’ve got 6 Calder eligible players on that roster plus a couple more that we don’t have a firm grasp on their NHL level. That’s a bold move, Cotton. And certainly one that is lokely to struggle.
  6. Untested in the NHL talent. They will struggle for awhile.
  7. I’ve said before that the rosters we’ve been icing since about 2010 have been unloveable, save maybe an Okposo or two. These guys could grow on me. Cozens is easy to root for. I’m already smitten with The Mule and he’s not even here full time yet. Tuch seems genuine. It’s easy to cheer for Toker. Quite a change of pace after the era of tankfruit that, while certainly talented, were rather unlikeable otherwise.
  8. *****, yeah! that was an entertaining game.

  10. Queue up the “Yo Dawg” memes.
  11. They did not tank. They never lost on purpose. They fell into bankruptcy and couldn’t afford to keep players and personnel.
  12. So I guess the message is, if you are going to lose big, do it for 2 seasons, luck into a lottery in the 3rd, and draft 2 more HOFers 5 and 7 years after.
  13. I am fully in on the Concept of The Mule.
  14. They were a bankrupt team, not a team that was focused on 1 oal. I know you know that.
  15. Pittsburgh did not tank to land Crosby. They won an altered lottery coming off a lockout season. Lottery balls were based on an average of multiple season standings that year. Buffalo had equal chances as Pittsburgh to win that lottery.
  16. This is why you make those decisions to re sign while they still have term. If they don’t, move while they have value.
  17. I saw somewhere on the twitterverse that Mule’s return to the ice coincides perfectly with a surge in UPLs performance in net. Hmmmm….
  18. Ok it took 7 years AND TWO MORE HOFers. That wasnt a tank success story.
  19. Do they win them without Jagr? Without Recchi? If the answer is no then I say it wasn't the tank that produced those cups. And this is the single, best example of a tank working. Hell, it might be the only example. Nearly a decade and 2 more HOFers were needed to be added before it "worked". It's a faulty plan.
  20. There is no option to manage the roster re: Anderson. The premise is, if you know he's going into his last season and you can't get him to re-sign, you move him while he has the value of a full season. Anderson is on a 1 yr deal and is an obvious 1 season stopgap. Not the same scenario at all. Example: Moving Reinhart while he has the value of a full season, or Risto with term, is managing the roster. Moving any one of the pre-tank core for picks the deadline before they become FA's is failing to manage your roster. We all knew they weren't going to be re-signed. Trade them with a full season of value and get a much better return.
  21. Holy *****. Matty Mo was a 9th rd pick? Never knew. Helluva career for a long shot.
  22. For Mario. And it took a decade, Jagr, and Recchi for it to bear fruit. Is it really a success when it takes that long AND required the drafting of two more HOF players?
  23. Neither of which tanked in the last 20 years. Remember when the fanbase here was talking ourselves into believing that Jack was the better leader and would have more success than McD? Hooboy was that a good time.
  24. I’ve posted in these pages many times that if you let a player get to deadline day and then move him for lottery tickets you’ve failed to manage the roster. I think the idea was losing valuable players with no return was a mistake repeated with Ullmark. Go on…..
  25. That misconduct was after he laid a monstrous hit on an opponent. Behind the net if my memory hasn’t failed. That hit was probably unpenalized in CHL, but it was a misconduct in international play. Or was it an open ice hit? Maybe my memory has failed.
