Would be nice to hear that the captain of the team in Buffalo would stay in the area and hold skates with his own teammates in Buffalo instead of joining players from a team he would rather be on.

I'm saying your giving Adams credit that there where a plan A and B last year and this year, I'm not even sure of that. I'm saying that what we saw last year may have been their plan all along and this year the plan may have just been to bring back in Ullmark

But a 1C can be found in the draft next year when they are picking near the top again. They need a goalie to keep them in games and take the pressure off the young kids so they can be in some games. Without one players are going to be forced to have to cover up for weak goaltending along with trying to play their position like normal. Getting a good goalie for next year isn't going to be the difference between a high lottery pick and a playoff team, but it will also keep the younger goalies in the minors where they can work and develop more so they aren't forced to come up early. Goalies can be headcases and fragile mentally that they can have their development wrecked by having too much pressure or playing too early in the league. They have done nothing having an actual 1C in Eichel, but they haven't had a solid, dependable goalie since they dealt Miller

It seems like we say this every year that it's only day 1 of Free Agency and still plenty of time, but how many times do they really end up getting something better later on? Who's left in FA that's going to be an upgrade in net and isn't just a warm body? And we assume that Adams has had a different plan in net then what we have seen . I really think they were fine with Ullmark and Hutton last year assuming Ullmark would be better and stay healthy and Hutton would be better now that they found he had a vision problem. This year I think they figured Ullmark would be back and they could count on one of the kids to step up behind him because the intention for this year is to just give the youth playing time .

I would argue that right now, the bare minimum need is an NHL caliber goaltender more then a 1C.

They might be gunning to be so bad the league feels bad and awards them the entire first round or they get an expansion draft......

Maybe they did and he decided going to a playoff team was more important then money on another rebuild? Theres a really good chance they wouldn't see the playoffs until his final year in that deal

I'm atleast holding back some excitement and praise for them until they prove it wasn't a 1 year fluke kind of thing. Its not like we haven't seen QBs throw up huge stats and look great one year, then fall back down to earth the next.

I was assuming its because you thought there were multiple 'generational talents' in the next draft like there was that year Atleast McDavid has played like advertised and won individual awards being at the top of the league.

To be fair, The coach and GM they got at the time weren't established guys with experience, both were first time coach/GMs (Beane was an assistant and McDermott a Co-Ordinator) so they did get lucky these guys have worked out so far. They have been trying to do the same thing with their NHL coach/GM signing too
