  1. As a Mets fan, Bartolo Colon is my President. Will Never forget this... https://www.mlb.com/video/must-c-colons-first-home-run/c-671207583?tid=6479266
  2. They are at all times very much Ottawa. But even they can't shoot themselves right in the face this hard, can they?
  3. I can imagine no scenario in which he stays in Ottawa, so... yeah?
  4. Josie's recommendations are solid. Lost in the haze of everything that happened at Jonestown... a member of congress was murdered in the build-up to the final atrocity. Back when that should have been a big deal. Sheesh...
  5. I wonder if the tandem bike is included with the lease?
  6. Found it, sort of: Article 11.8 of the CBA says an acquiring team isn't bound by a NMC unless it elects to do so and submits this in writing to central registry. This is specifically worded to cover a team acquiring a player prior to the effective date of a NMC, but I would have to imagine it covers situations where the clause is waived, as there's no other mechanism to regulate that.
  7. I remember this popping up in the context of another player, I forget who. Actually, maybe it was Bogo. As I recall, the answer was a team can honor the NMC if it wants to, but it isn't required.
  8. Correct. When you have nonsense like the whole “Phil Kessel eats hot dogs constantly and is fat and lazy” trope being perpetuated by (in this case one specific and particularly odious member of) the local media, and it’s Toronto, I bet that gets old.
  9. The media was heavily involved as well, most prominently Steve (literally the worst) Simmons and his hot dog campaign. When it’s so silly your sister gets asked at a press conference (wholly unrelated to anything you’re doing) about ####### hot dogs, maybe a #### you guys attitude is understandable.
  10. There's also the diving. Which always drove me nuts. But eh, a new uniform can change one's outlook on a player. (As long as it's not Doug Gilmour. Seriously, #### that guy)
  11. Wouldn't be the worst thing to do with them. But still, that none of them left for Skinner makes me curious what they could bring back.
  12. Those three first-rounders for next year are still sitting there, tantalizingly... perhaps JBOTs is not yet done?
  13. I agree with this take. Carolina getting killed by the hockey twitteratti in general.
  14. Reading several places that Skinner had Buffalo "high on his list" of teams he'd be willing to waive his NMC for. Interesting...
  15. You, sir, are indeed a gentleman and a scholar.
  16. The Window for pretty much everybody closes 8/31. The Premier League decided to shut theirs (incoming, anyway) before the season starts in two weeks. Given the short off season with the world cup, the next couple weeks ought to be quite active. Rooney, if we're honest, has not looked after himself well at all. Too many beers and cigarettes. His body's much older than his age...
  17. That sketch is a gem. “It’s good fish, Jim...”
  18. I had a rare evening to myself last night and watched the first three episodes of Castle Rock on Hulu. It's the fictional town Steven King set a number of his stories in. So far it's a slow burning combination of a number of story lines, but I'm probably hooked. Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise in the new It) does creepy extremely well, the entire cast is actually well put together. Time will tell how far down the King rabbit-hole it goes, there are passing references to prior stories, and Shawshank is front and center. It's worth a watch if you're into that sort of thing.
  19. Nice, we voted exactly alike. Great minds. Vegas is going to drop off a cliff, I can feel it... No, I have no justifiable argument for this.
  20. This sums it up: https://washingtonmonthly.com/2018/06/18/how-rogue-agents-at-the-fbi-influenced-the-election/
  21. It's coming up now re: SALT because, as noted above, of recent changes to the tax code. It's conceptually the same as corporate double-taxation, but unlike corporate shareholders, I retain full personal liability for all the awful #### I do...
  22. I think the positive impact of not having Lehner anywhere near this team in general this coming season is being criminally undersold.
  23. It takes money, which, as a percentage and in real terms, means so much more to them than it would to a wealthy person, out of their pockets.
