  1. Thornton's going to take a sweetheart discount to take one last swing at it w/ Tavares on board, isn't he?
  2. The final indignity for Matty Mo. Savage. I love it.
  3. The angst over this presupposes that JBOTs would pass over an obviously superior CHL talent to draft a lesser college/Euro kid. Don't know that you can fairly assume this; he even said, out loud, in front of the media, that it's ONE consideration.
  4. The cap hit moves, but the contract is structured in such a way that bonus payments, such as the one ROR is due 7/1, make up much of his actual salary. He's pulling in his last big payday. From here on out his actual salary + bonuses decreases, but the cap hit remains the same.
  5. The sample size here, and where the Sabres were drafting, has to be taken into account. The front-end picks really can't be argued. The question is, in the first or second round, if the consensus BPA is a CHL kid, does JBOTS pass him over and go for a college / euro kid. I don't think he does. He said it himself, all other things being equal, more time to control the player wins out. If all things are not equal, the better layer comes in from the CHL, if that's the case.
  6. Corey Pronman is really hating on this pick in the Athletic... he's a draft guy and I like his stuff, but everything else I've read is positive. Hmmmmm.
  7. Leaner would be better than Ward. JBOTs made the decision that Lehner walking away is bettter than a qualifying offer. Make of that why you will. But Seriously, no.
  8. As Neo has previously noted, watching these absolute infants get drafted is seriously making me conscious of my inevitably impending death...
  9. I’ll be really intrigued to see who’s sitting there at 32...
  10. Bergevin will be the former Habs GM by the time that kid contributes. Not trading that pick is sooooo dumb from where they are.
  11. I’m stuck in the cringe position.
  12. Oooooh, Granit Xhaha with an absolute thunderbastard (if I may borrow the word from the Germans) to tie it at 1 for the Swiss. Dude has a cannon for a left leg.
  13. I'll put it this way: were I on his (Ronaldo's) team, the second time he stood there with his arms spread out and yelled at a teammate for not passing to him in an unideal position, would be the last one. This would be one minute into any game.
  14. Don't forget, Messi "Retired" from the national team and had to be coaxed back when it looked dead certain they weren't qualifying... and yet people think he's the nicer alternative to (the admittedly hideous) Ronaldo.
  15. While this is true, that one great player was quite literally created in a lab at the expense and for the benefit of FC Barcelona and Nike. How he's never been taken to task or even been asked about this is confounding.
  16. Not the country at large, just the objectionable bastards they've tossed in to play with the weird science experiment that is Messi. Full disclosure: Messi. Right in the ear.
  17. This, of course, is the optimal outcome. I'm just worried about preventing the worst outcome.
  18. As it turned out... not even a little bit.
  19. Aaaaaaaaaaannnnnd, that probably just about does it for Iceland. Oh well, good run for a country half the size of Erie County.
  20. Funny how that works... it's almost as if the amount you're willing to spend is directly proportional to the outcome in most cases... which is demonstrated in any league for any sport without a salary cap.. (baseball and non-MLS soccer, really)
