  1. I think Fasching has a lot of jam to his game. I've only seen him play a few college games and now both of these games in the tourney and I can honestly say I've yet to see him take a minute off. He hustles all the time, skates better than I thought, and just seems like a general pain in the ass to play against. I like that in a player. If he develops any kind of scoring touch, it'll be a bonus. I think we made out ok on that trade with the Kings. GO SABRES!!!
  2. I agree with this because now we know what the draft order is on top of already knowing we were slated to take Ebron. It's really that simple: Ebron + the 19th pick in the draft for Sammy Watkins; that's what we gave up. Now we don't know who that pick will be at 19 and what kind of player he'll turn out to be and there are many more chapters to be written for both Ebron's and Watkins' career, so we won't know the full extent of the deal for several years probably. But knowing it was Ebron + the 19th pick gives the trade more shape moving forward. GO BILLS!!!
  3. Excellent take. I think their transition will be helped if they can find wingers that can create space on the ice as well. When I read inkman's updates on the Amerks, I get the sense that Armia is doing this for Grigs in the A already. GO SABRES!!!
  4. I just don't see the value in comparing a bunch of bad QBs. Orton may be the best of the worst, but that's not saying much. I'm not convinced any of those other bad QBs, with the possible exception of Losman and Edwards, left MORE plays on the field than Orton. It's uncanny how our passing schemes frequently had multiple receivers running open only to be totally ignored by Orton. Bottom line is we didn't get good enough QB play to contend and I don't see Orton getting any better at this stage. GO BILLS!!!
  5. That was a terrific year to be sure. That 8 yards per attempt is very telling. The idea that Orton, because he compares "statistically", had as good a year as Kelly, is ridiculous. No sane observer of the game would suggest Orton has been as effective a QB, no matter what the numbers say. Case in point: completion %. Orton may have completed a higher percentage, but don't tell me he is an accurate QB. Accurate QBs have consistent "ball placement" that allows receivers to make a play rather than just make a catch. How about keeping a play alive? Orton can't extend plays to save his life; Kelly knew how to move around in the pocket WITH HIS EYES DOWN FIELD to extend a play. There is simply no comparison to be made on any rational level. There's a difference between passing and quarterbacking. GO BILLS!!!
  6. That's what I meant by "tricky little play" in my post above. Not a bad goal in the shootout, either. GO SABRES!!!
  7. Tricky little play to set up the first goal with a nice pass to Tuch. Controls play most of the time on the ice. Like that he isn't opposed to mixing it up when challenged. He didn't disappoint in the least.
  8. Nice test for USA coming out of the box against the defending champs. This just in: Eichel is good. Fasching skates better than I imagined and is very effective on the PK. Hustles all the time. Didn't see enough of Compher, though. Liked Auston Matthews as well. Only 17 and won't be draft eligible until '16, but I can see why he made the squad over some older players. Larkin has nice wheels as well. Any deal with Detroit needs to include him. GO SABRES!!!
  9. Eichel with a nice helper on the PP as USA ties it up at 1 each. USA came on strong the last half of the first and are clearly asserting control. Eichel is good. Fasching is strong on the puck. Haven't seen too much of Compher. GO SABRES!!!
  10. I understand the frustration of not getting the tell-tale "links" but they really don't apply here. And I don't care if you think I'm full of schit or not; I understand the nature of the disbelief in an anonymous internet forum. I have no desire to get into a tit for tat pissing contest, either. I go back nearly 40 years with some of these guys. We were editing tapes for scouts and coaches back when beta-max was cool for crissakes, so I'm more than comfortable with what they share with me, and I'm more than confident in my experience to interpret that information. But like I said, I only share it here to set the record straight because these guys put in thousands of hours trying to get it right on these kids coming out; all without an agenda. Unlike the "pundits" or the "insiders" on the click for traffic sights or even fans with their own agendas. A word of caution about the pundits and "draft gurus": they are often fed total crap by the community and often times they are shills for various agents out there. Take that for what it's worth. Have a nice evening, gentlemen. GO BILLS!!!
  11. His ability to do well during the interview process is part and parcel to his rise up the draft boards, that's why I felt it was pertinent to the discussion. GO BILLS!!!
  12. Nope. That's right from the actual reports from several people I've know for nearly 40 years, three of whom currently working for two different teams in the league. Manuel aced his private interview with us, SD, Philly, Jax, that I know of personally and I suspect others as well. He blew everyone away with his ability to break down every play he was asked about, both on the whiteboard and in the film room. Lemme guess, you read a report that Florida State only allowed Manuel to "read half the field?" But the most absurd thing I've ever read about Manuel is your claim that he compares to Pennington in terms of arm strength. Pennington DID have questions about his arm coming out while Manuel has been lauded for his arm strength since high school, when he was considered a top 5 recruit. I've spent too much time on the Bills forum discussing this and I don't feel compelled to redo that here. I also know that as an anonymous poster on the internet, you are free to believe I'm full of schit and that's OK. I offer this info for your edification, not mine. I'm quite comfortable in my assertion either way. GO BILLS!!!
  13. Having had the pleasure of watching both their entire careers, I can say Dom is the best ever at his position, and Gilbert is the greatest Buffalo Sabre ever. And I say that without any sense of conflict at all. Perreault ESTABLISHED the entire franchise and carried it on his back for the duration of his playing days. He did things with a puck from an offensive standpoint that others couldn't; things as amazing on offense as Dom did in goal. You had to be there to really get a sense of it. GO SABRES!!!
  14. This is a myth and has been for a while. The entire off season after his senior year, Manuel had a meteoric rise up the charts, from his bowl win, the entire Senior Bowl practice week and game, to the combine, pro days and every private workout. By the time the draft arrived he was projected to go somewhere from 20-25 in the first round. The Eagles were strongly considering trading back into the first round to get him with another team, possibly the Jest, rumored to do the same. He was never considered less than a late first rounder by a consensus of the scouting community. This myth picked up steam because the Cowboys publicly said they had him rated as a 4th rounder and by the accepted knowledge that while he possessed every physical trait you'd want in a QB, he was still gonna be a developmental project in his transition to the pro game. He was never slated to start his first year but nobody expected him to outplay Kolb in camp and for Kolb to get injured and lost for the year. He's doing now what he should have been doing last season. GO BILLS!!! EJ doesn't have arm strength? LOL!. You are the first person in history to hold that opinion. Arm strength is the very least of his issues. GO BILLS!!!
  15. You are then granted the special Young Turk waiver by the senior voting committee. Welcome aboard. GO SABRES!!!
  16. Any of you young turks that voted against Bert in the other poll, need to abstain from this vote as you aren't qualified to evaluate the 1975 team in any context whatsoever. Hats of to Biodork for bringing a measure of integrity to the process. GO SABRES!!!
  17. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed the ride. A true Capraesque moment. Well done, PA.
  18. It does little to further Manuel's development to play him in a meaningless game played alongside teammates with meaningless expectations. This is a classic run for the bus scenario where it's just too easy for OLmen to not finish blocks and receivers not to sell out in their routes, etc. If Manuel lays an egg it only serves to raise the clamor going into the offseason. If he plays lights out, it's in a meaningless game anyway and gives rise to criticism that Marrone should have played him all along. Smart to avoid it all together. Orton drove this bus. He needs to park it. GO BILLS!!!
  19. "Gil isn't even close." "I never saw Gil play a single game." I rest my case. GO SABRES!!!
  20. LOL! In some future poll many years from now, they will suffer the same outrage at the lack of respect for Dom by youngins that never saw him play. GO SABRES!!!
  21. I laughed. Nicely done. GO SABRES!!!
  22. Absolutely! If he had a signature phrase, it was when an errant puck went over the glass and it was always, "And there's a souvenir for a lucky fan from the Sloan Kiwanis Club!", or some other civic group. That said, my vote goes to Bert (or doesn't go to Bert for the poll purposes). And while my nostalgic bias may be playing a role in that decision and Hasek may have been a better player at his position, Perreault hoisted this franchise on his shoulders from its inception and kept it there. And to this very day, there has NEVER been another player that induces that butterfly in the gut feeling EVERY TIME they wind up with the puck behind their own net to start a rush. When I think of what it may have been like if we lost that spin of the wheel, I shudder. It literally would have been a COMPLETELY different franchise. And not for the better, I think. GO BILLS!!!
