That was fantastic to see the Jays take two of three in Chavez Ravine. What poetic justice it would be to see them chase Yamamoto and wrap it up in Toronto in game six.
-
My major concern going in was which team could chase the other’s starter and get to each other’s weak bullpen. I’m shocked but not surprised that the Jays have done just that with the exception of Yamamoto. If they chase Snell again tonight, I like their chances to win one of two back home.

Worthy would have been better under Daboll, who would have made him his gadget guy, like he did with McKensie. And much like Reid does currently. We may not care where he lines up, but OCs certainly do, as does Reid. For instance, and once again citing his off ball reliance, you seldom see him lined up at the X because he’s really not good at beating press man on the ball. He is too easily disrupted with a simple one armed chuck which is enough to throw off the timing on a play. He’s better in the slot and out of bunch formations, which Reid also recognizes. And he’s a lot more effective since Rice came back, too. We have enough slot guys as it is. Sure, it would be great to have his speed, but that in and of itself doesn’t make him a scheme fit for every offense. I agree that our receivers aren’t great at creating separation, but Allen has also missed guys when open, either with poor passes or simply not seeing them. It was glaring during the Atlanta game which I had the pleasure of seeing from on high. And I wasn’t surprised when Kubiak said as much in his Buffalo News critique afterward. It was also interesting to hear Allen speak of not trusting his feet after the Panther game, which told me his timing patterns were off. It’s easy to blame it all on the receivers and think that one small, fast guy would make it all better but I don’t think it’s that simple.

I’m in no way implying Coleman is better than Worthy, nor do I really care. I don’t spend a second regretting a player we never had, anyway. My only point is that the Bills and other teams had reason to take a pass on Worthy given that he is an undersized, strictly off ball receiver. As to the Brady scheme, it is diametrically opposed to Reid’s given his reliance on heavy packages and the emphasis on the run game, as borne out by the fact that we run the ball more than any other team. It is an absolute requirement that his receivers be good blockers as a result. I’m sure Brady would love nothing more than a speed burner at the X who is big and can block. Who wouldn’t?

The Bills, along with every other team that selected a WR before him, had good reason to pass on Worthy as he is strictly an off ball receiver and is scheme limited as a result. He is a great fit for Reid, not a great fit for us.

I see two reasons to discuss.

Those throwback jerseys are from their inaugural season in 1933. Apparently, there was far less fashion sense 92 years ago.
-
He had more snaps than any other D lineman so he was out there in more combinations than anyone else and since the DL had 6 of their 7 sacks today, I think that indicates he was a disruptive force more often than not.
-
Hoecht had 3 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 1 TFL. Can’t find number of pressures.

Welp. Gausman was outstanding right up until the two 7th inning dinners and got chased. I wish I was confident the Jays can do the same to Yamamoto. We shall see.

Helenius with the OT winner on the PP. 4-3 final and Leinonen was great.
-
Leinonen has made some amazing saves including one a moment ago to stop a shorthanded breakaway in Cleveland. He looks very good tonight. EDIT: just made a couple more. Amerks look a little tired this period. Like they played last night and had a bus ride today.

20 games two years ago. That’s the extent of his experience as a competent NHL goalie. The rest of his pro career, including the AHL, is less than mediocre. If KA thinks teams are gonna line up for that and insists on waiting for the “right” deal, good luck. But in the meantime he shouldn’t be playing and that’s just a worst situation all the way around.

1-1 after 1 in Cleveland.

1 zip Amerks in the first Wahlberg on the PP.
