  1. I grew up in WNY and started following them in the early 70's, yes saw French connection and first SC finals and was hooked, moved away in 1992 and not many options back then to see games unless they were playing the Pens here in PGH until streaming was available. I like hockey and have been to many Pens games and did get to see firsthand their cup winning seasons from 92 on. So, they have become my second favorite team. I admit it's hard to stay invested for my first favorite team when they are so inconsistent and irrelevant for so long. I have become a casual Sabers fan through all that disappointment not allowing myself the frustration they have become on a consistent basis for so many years running now.
  2. A 3-game western road trip against 2 of the top western teams. Here's a chance to see if they really have figured out how they need to play from the start to the end. Let's go Buffalo. Mustache Wax.
  3. Because they know he's coming back.
  4. Moved away in 92. I missed the multiple day after gloom of the last 2 of the 4 super bowl losses. However, I did watch them on TV. I miss: The food; Chivetta's Chicken(@doohickie), Teds Hot Dogs, Andersons, and the many different quality Pizza and Wing joints. Boating (fishing and water skiing) on Lake Erie and the Niagara River. Tobogganing at Chestnut Ridge Park and skiing at Kissing Bridge and Ellicottville. Seeing bands at the Belle Star Lodge and the Continental.
  5. Buffalo born and raised, grew up in Cheek-to-waga. Bills because my grandfather and grandmother introduced me to them in 64-65 watching with them on the old black and white TV. They were huge sports fans mainly baseball and football. Sabre's, because when I started playing pond hockey the French connection was really something to see on tv and we emulated them on the ponds we played on. There was shared ice in our park started by the 1st kids from the neighborhood who shoveled it to create the rink (never quite the same shape). Kids from the hood just showed up regularly and you'd play pickup games. Sometimes 3 on 3 others 7 on 7. Braves, because my best friend played HS basketball and got me interested and who didn't like a little. MCAdoo. interest left me like the Baves left Bflo with Paul Brown selling them off like he did. Bisons; Because my Grandparents followed them and knew every player. They were also Yankee's fans, so I naturally like them as well. College sports: Well, while I teen I caught a few Alabama games on TV with Bear Bryant and still a fan of them today. Oh and of course my alma mater, UB Bulls. Casual fan of a lot of other sports but not really following, Tennis, Golf, MLS.
  6. Finally, another Sabers game I can watch because I live in North PGH. Hope Pens are still feeling the jet lag from their road trip. Let's Go Bflo keep climbing them standings.
  7. Please Buffalo Sabre's may I have another just like the other, Saturday game. Let's begin again, defense first, just put the work in and a win. Let's Go Buff-a-lo!
  8. They need to make the home games an advantage. Are they trying to put on too much of a show for the home crowd since they seem to play smarter and more that way on the road (dump and chase). Seems like they should have this down by now in both practice and execution. Islanders Sat and they deftly play the defense first style. Let's hope they figure this out quickly or they will be playing to sparse home team crowds.
  9. The Power of positive thinking, am I right? Wishful thinking but still positive. Pragmatic thinking. Like the Lineup LGR4GM posted a few back. The home record needs to start chalking up Dubs in these next 4 games can't have last years record at end of the year and expect to be a playoff team. Lets go.....
  10. Well that definitely appears to happen more with the Amerks than I hear /read about with the Sabre's but of course I'm an out-of-town voyeur so maybe I'm just missing out on that insider information.
  11. Time to go Buff-a-lo. I am looking forward to seeing how this team has matured. Just a few new faces on both O and D and hoping the practice times with these lines and pairing hit the ice running the Rangers out of the building.
  12. May the force be with us this year.
  13. My favorite Sabre all time. I hope he finds solace with the large family he still hopefully surrounds himself with.
  14. This was the one I was going to also pick. I still remember his 4-5 goal game he had against the Quebec Nordiques and the 3 Stasny brothers. He a was one of the best power forwards we ever had. I was very happy for him when he finally got his SC with Tampa, but it should have been with us.
  15. I haven't posted in a long time but never stopped following or keeping up reading here off and on. I like your summary and would just add that what a difference having a good analytics department and solid hockey leadership make for a positive feeling about this year's selections along with the previous body of work over the last few years. It really does feel different with what's being done with this team.
  16. I put this SS diversion down for awhile what with the state of the team, covid and the country although still a lurker reading off and on. With this last move my self imposed exile is now over. Sans the Goalie debate it feels like the first time in a long time we actually have a hockey team we can feel positive and talk about. Given the initial reaction to the KA replacement mine included who knew. Actually looking forward to this coming hockey season.
  17. 1. Sam 2. Sam Just a better all around player based on what I have seen.
  18. Watched yesterday, Best all around game in a long time. Will record and watch later tonight and hope for more of the same. Makes watching what Jbotts does or doesn't do by Trade Tuesday a potential real Ash Wednesday. Let's Go Buffalo, Entertain us.
  19. This is where I am on this as well. So necessary turnover begins again. I hope for better days when we can get off this tread mill of mediocrity.
  20. Yeah, bugs me how did one of the few remaining wealthy Buffalo family's(Jacobs) with a local headquartered national Company(Delaware North) not end up with a Buffalo team. Only other I still know of is the Rich's.
