  1. I'll sometimes do that to save my knees, but usually not. I almost always take the stairs up. Also, walk to the far end of the building to use the can instead of the one just down the hall. Every little bit helps. Complaint: baby time dilation. hours will pass doing tasks that should only take a few minutes without me noticing they've gone by.
  2. Same here. Funny how that works.
  3. I'm so glad I'm back to the board for this thread.
  4. Just a quick comment on the All-star game. While that would be nice to have more, you have to figure Buffalo only sends one player to the All-star game, but Myers has a much chance as anyone. Just doing the math, there are 16 teams in the East. Each team seems to have one player (you have to keep the fans interested), so that's 16 players locked in with one Sabre. If another Sabre fills one of the remaining 5 slots (12 F + 6 D + 3G??), Buffalo is having a way better year than expected.
  5. I think you're generally correct, but the big problem is corporate money for boxes and whatnot. There just aren't as many big companies in Canada that are going to buy-in.
  6. Huh, I don't remember seeing that when I was there in the spring. It was the off-season though, maybe it wasn't open. Dog Street Pub wasn't bad though, ended up eating there twice since most of the other places were a bit too fancy-pants.
  7. Congrats in advance! If you're a first timer (like I am), my tips for the hospital trip are: don't bother with "entertainment" stuff like books or even movies. We dragged a bunch of stuff in there that we never touched, you won't have time. The only thing we did watch were a DVD or two worth of Scrubs episodes (seemed apropos). Only take a change of clothes or two, you won't have time to shower every day. Ideally, have you hair cut in such a way that it looks good straight out of bed. I lucked out that my hair looks OK in all the first pictures even though I hadn't cleaned up or slept much in the last 24 hours. Since it was November or so, more like the Bills.
  8. You can say all of that 100 times over. RosePie, 2 weeks old today (picture from about 3-4 days old):
  9. I'm not sure I care what Johnny U. (Unitas) thinks about this. ;)
  10. All things aside, the shadow is terrible. The light is coming from the upper-left, but along the bottom edge there's no shadow at all even though it should be a black line straight across. If you wanted to be extra-fancy, the shadow line could move up a little when it crosses the implied bevel on the star, but no shadow just looks wrong. I spent far too much time when I was younger playing with 3d-look bitmap icons and this is amateur hour. As someone said, it's like a photoshop where the people's shadows don't match the rest of the photo. Fix the shadow, and it's an OK logo. It may just be one of the best non-round logos. So who's left? Detroit, Phoenizona, BUFFALO!, Chicago and St. Loius. I don't see Buffalo coming in above 3rd on that list.
  11. I don't like the word "overdue" in relation to the kiddo, so every time I hear that word I think "Ooooooovvvvvveeeeerrrrrtttttttiiiiiimmmmmeeeeee!" in my head's RJ voice.
  12. I had heard rumblings of some ice bucket stuff, but haven't seen a video or really knew what was going on.
  13. Actually, c-note is still the slang other than rap (of 15 years ago) in which they are "Benjamins". See: All about the Benjamins, although Weird Al's All about the Pentiums has better rhymes.
  14. How about just not attacking anyone? If the only argument is a personal attack, there's not much of an argument at all.
  15. How about the violence in the name of Christianity in the last 500? Some highlights: the conquest of the Americas, Salem witch trials, the endless wars between Catholic France and Protestant England, the British Civil War (or as we'd call it now, sectarian violence where a radical group of Protestants overthrew the government of England). In the last 100, I seem to remember learning that a lot of the KKK nuttery was wrapped in saving God-fearing white people from the heathen blacks and the long-running violence in Ireland is a perfect example your version of God is slightly different than mine so I must kill you. Now, you might argue that Christianity is just a cover for non-related political ambition in many of these cases, but you'd be foolish to think that it isn't the same deal with the current Muslim "problems". You give desperate, poor people something to believe in and they'll go all in. They got nothing else to feel good about. You talk about "providing for families", but the last I heard the vast majority of the ISIS folks are males 16-25. Probably not a lot of families there. Oh, and Clinton: I'd really rather see someone that's not a Bush or Clinton. We're dangerously close to building political dynasties and that's a really bad idea.
  16. The hubbub is probably for those of us who don't have cable. I understand why the set up is the way it is, but it'd be great for me if I didn't have to figure out some way to watch 10-12 games (4 Flyers games are on Comcast sports, 4-6 on VS or NHL Network, and one or two on NBC) per year that I can't watch on the Gamecenter package that I paid good money for. I can watch the NBC games on antenna but it's old school to not be able to pause or have to catch the game in real time. :) Not to mention the only playoff games I can watch are over the antenna, as every other game is on cable somewhere. Another wrinkle is for awhile Comcast/The Flyers refused to license the games to any of the local competing operators (FIOS, Direct TV); if you were in this area it was Comcast or no Flyers (not that I particularly care, of course, but for my hockey-fan friends it sucked a lot). As someone said upthread, I doubt it'll change anything but it'd be great for me if it did.
  17. Brush? Doubtful. Giving the kid a dirt-shower? Maybe. And maybe is the strongest way to say "probably" with absolutely no evidence or mind-reading.
  18. http://www.thehockey...ers/#more-20230 Phlyers come up 10.
  19. You can't rebuild a team in a year without cutting corners. In this case, cutting corners would be using players if they're not ready and bringing in whomever they can get whether they're a good fit or not. I'm willing to wait for this to be done right.
  20. 1975 was closer. The Sabres needed a minimum of 4 goals to win that cup that year (3 to win Game 6, 1 minimum to win game 7). The Sabres needed a minimum of 6 goals to win: 2 vs. the Canes and then four 1-0 games. I get the "they can't win in that building" concept, but realistically a couple bounces would have tossed that.
  21. She's in total agreement with me. :) The sooner the show it on the road, the sooner it's over and we get to the good stuff.
  22. When did Ennis become a 1st line center, and when did Foligno start playing center at all? (Foligno played some C last year I think, but to slot him hin there?) There are six (!) guys on the roster listed at center, and you're moving a LW over? Moulson - Hodgson - Steward (scorer, playmaker (?), physical guy) Foligno - Ennis - Stafford (why not bring back a classic line, plus: physical guy., play maker, scorer (in theory)) Delauriers - Girgensons - Gionta (not sure about Delauriers, but I'd hope he's above Ellis. If not, Flynn) Ellis - McCormick - Mitchell Flynn fills injury holes in the top 9 or pushes Foligno down and Delauriers out. Kaleta replaces Mitchell if he's back up.
  23. No baby yet. My wife is still a few days from being due, but after a couple false labor incidents we're both ready to get this show on the road.
  24. Don't Stop Believing was the last song at my wedding; right after the polkas. I get that. I guess my college parties were "too close" in the 90s, I don't remember hearing those songs that often. But. oh, what other things I don't remember [bUH-DUH-BUM].
  25. What on earth did he do in the early 2000s that was notable? :) Mid-80s, maybe, even early 90s, Sure.
