  1. The more I think about it, I'm not sure "huge leap" is correct. Pominville replaces Gionta, which is an upgrade but not huge. The new D could be promising, but the loss of Foligno and Ennis means Pouliot and one or two of the Rochester-3 will have to take a step otherwise they could be in the same place for goals, which isn't good. strange as it is to say, the season may hang on depth wingers becoming NHLers and if the new system can really boost everyone's stats.
  2. Paging Mike Richards....
  3. You can call it bias, but he's never played more than 74 games in a season and usually is somewhere in the 60s. That seems like prediction based on past data. 448 games in seven full seasons, 64 per on average. He did play 48 of 48 in the lockout year (which I didn't count in the average).
  4. I now have this vision of Tedislaus Nolanzcz screaming into his phone and holding it up to the players to speak the translation.
  5. I'd think it was one of the Adjunct Captains from last year, but I think that's Gorges and ???, so maybe not. Anyone up for monthly rotating Captains?
  6. Realistically, it's possible he's only been to Buffalo a few times and then only the sad drive down the 33 for an overnight and a game the next day. All he has to go on is the waterfront in winter and Pominville's assurances. I'm sure he'll warm up; I have a tough time thinking Buffalo is worse than Minnesooooohta. Maybe not better, but not worse either.
  7. I kind of wonder if Kane and Pominville would make good wingers for Samson. Pominville skates down the wing and fires the puck at the GT and creates a rebound; Kane either cashes it or passes to the trailing Reinhart who then sauces an incredible pass to one of them or a D coming down into the slot.
  8. I've only interacted with one at a friends' house. It's kinda amusing to be able to say "play some Journey" or "order 18 cases of Preparation H", but otherwise I'm not sure what I'd do with one.
  9. $3M is nice money, but he'd still have to work or live lower-middle class if he tried to ride out the rest of his life on that $3M. $3M / 70 years == $42K / yr. Sure there's investing and whatnot, but inflation means he needs another contract to be truly set. Weird world of only getting paid for a short period of your life.
  10. Same here, although not quite to that level. It wasn't bad with my old glass bottle since it'd warm up pretty quickly. I now have an insulated water bottle and the water stays cold too long (1st world problem), so I do exactly that. Also, I drink a lot of green tea, which is better around 175 deg F than the near-boiling water out of the water machine so I put a little cold in first, and then fill with hot.
  11. Am I doing this right?
  12. Best change the name, though. (xkcd 1807)
  13. Also casual from the resident baseball fan. :)
  14. Random thought about that clip: the Devils were skating three guys name -son, one -sen, and Zacha.
  15. Good hockey name there, eh?
  16. I wonder if "How I met your Mother" stole that or vice versa. Whichever, HIMYM got the axes wrong.
  17. Reminded of the exact wording of that quote, I'm curious what Lehner is going to say about a new system that is entirely the bolded.
  18. Same here. I've seen an instance where someone was using the English phonetic spelling of my last name as their last name (presumably changed while immigrating by the ancestor or immigration person). I. E., Using the Bowlyou spelling instead of Beaulieu.
  19. i have to think that A> DiPietro would have been worth a first *round* pick if he had stayed healthy, and B> should be the top response to anyone suggesting a team draft based on need. I imagine it going like this: Poster1: At #10, Alexei Rachmaninoff (C ) and Brodiee Sutter (LW) will probably be the best two players available, we should draft one of them; I prefer Alexai but either is fine. Poster2: We should draft Gord Luckachuk at #10, because we need a D Poster1: We should draft the best player, we can trade a successful prospect for another if needed. Poster2: No, we need D Poster1: DiPietro Poster2: Oh, you're right. Carry on.
  20. LOL at those few that didn't get it and were quick to judge NPR.
  21. Buffalo: come for the food, leave when you can dig out your car in the spring.
  22. Even worse, she's a millennial with lady parts and associated problems. Gross!
  23. I can't help but think he's a Chad Ruhwedel. Sorry, Stanley Cup Champion Chad Ruhwedel. Another piece is good but I won't cry if he doesn't come here.
  24. No Internet you say? https://groups.google.com/d/topic/alt.sports.hockey.nhl.buffalo-sabres/n43pwL3rWZE/discussion Looks like the archive doesn't go back far enough, sadly, but I bet there was much discussion at the time.
  25. Colorado qualified him, so that's a pretty bold move on his part if true.
