Do we know who was consulting him at the time of the McDermott/Beane hires? Would it still have been Brandon at that point? I'm not so sure how much of a factor that initial help played in both cases, but we do know that the Sabres ownership started with LaFontaine immediately pulling the Abe Simpson:
