  1. There's a company somewhere out here that has a fleet of bright green dump trucks. Each of them has a Decepticon logo on the back. I absolutely love this.
  2. Beaulieu had requested a trade ages ago at this point. What would make you think this deal was spontaneous at this point? They completely ignored him and then finally decided to take calls at the last second? That's highly unlikely. Now someone might want to argue that he had more value and should be playing, but the opinion that matters the most on that is the people who actually set the game day roster. Beaulieu has played 5 games in 2019, so clearly the guys making that decision did not want him playing. So at that point, he has very little value to them, especially given that they've been carrying about 85 defensemen lately. From that point of view, you take whatever you can get to clear him off of the roster.
  3. So a few extra hours because Guhle was heading out west. Makes sense.
  4. It's always interesting when one guy in the trade is able to play but the other isn't. I'm not trying to suggest anything here, just interesting.
  5. And take a look at those 2014-2015 Rochester Americans for even more reason why it might not be a great idea to trade out every single future.
  6. I don't mean to suggest that they'll jump to some other team. Offer sheets never happen, so it's definitely not going to suddenly occur with someone like Girgensons or Larsson. I'd think that if it was a time where one of these guy's wanted to leave, they'd probably bring it to the GMs attention and then a trade would happen. That or they head overseas. But anyway, I'd imagine that both will just sign their qualifying offers. Or possibly they add the second year, whatever gets them to UFA status. I'm too lazy to look that up, but both should be pretty close at this point.
  7. And let's also factor into your scenarios the fact that Kane is leaving in free agency a few if you don't make that deal. We may want to judge these deals based solely on player vs. player, but there's always far more than just that in play.
  8. Girgensons and Larsson are both RFAs after the season, which does at least bring some uncertainty into the equation. They'd get slight raises, but there is at least the chance that they could want to leave. It would be good if someone like O'Regan would show the ability to play that role though since the depth would obviously not be a bad thing.
  9. Drinks are on 11 while it's down.
  10. And some of those 20 will pan out and others won't. Just like how some from 21 through whatever will make it as well. Just because there's an expected value chart that someone put together, that doesn't mean you're getting exactly what that curve tells you. If anyone is living or dying off of that chart, they're more than likely doing the latter.
  11. Which still leaves me wanting one today. That and a lot of those drafted centers wind up as wings.
  12. You're oversimplifying things when it comes to comparing one guy trading away two first round picks to another guy trading one. There’s the obvious difference in count right off the bat, but the biggest issue with Murray was specifically the Lehner deal. Other equally qualified goalies were being moved at the same time for a smaller price. I don’t remember the specific health of each of them, but Lehner also had the concussion cloud hovering over him at the time. Murray overpaid for one of “his guys” and that was the general consensus at the time.
  13. Did they win it though if nothing ever becomes of that pick (currently in the WHL)? We always want to declare winners and losers, but it's also possible for their to be no winner. That said, yes, we did not get what we wanted. It wasn’t much of a price, but I’m with you on everything about not screwing up a bigger deal.
  14. There’s still a good amount of uncertainty in that. If nothing else, he could stand to learn a lot from another good center in front of him. Then again, I’m the guy who wants 5 centers, so I’m always adding depth there if reasonably possible.
  15. I’m good too. I think they’re better today and next year than they were before this deal. It’s also a far more calculated move than the previous trade in question earlier here because Montour’s under their control a bit longer, depending on what that next contract is.
  16. It’s all a giant blur of suck right now in my mind. He could have gotten into 20 fights per game and lost both eyes and I still wouldn’t remember it.
  17. I will never stop calling you old! but anyway, can you guys spin this off to its own thread or something? It’s time to get this thing back on the rails.
  18. Just like so many other deals like this, you can’t really give it a final grade. Buffalo gets he best player today and the Ducks get two different rolls of he dice. We don’t know how those two will pan out. He’ll, we don’t even know if the Ducks will keep either.
  19. We gave away last year’s 6th round pick for Toronto’s this year. Kind of an odd transaction on paper. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re thinking of. And Hunwick is a bit of a special case. If they had traded him, our third round pick this year would go to Pittsburgh (instead of the 4th). So if you look to move him instead of Beaulieu, that a known price that you’ll have to balance out if you’re looking to compare value. So do you hope to move Hunwick and a 3rd in exchange for a 6th and a 4th, or just stick with the today’s deal? And that’s if you can even get that similar deal for Hunwick. He was already glued to the press box when he made the request, so if he was in the dog house, he was there before the request.
  20. This is exactly what it is. And just to expand on that a bit, that full grind is a significantly longer season than at the college level. I would t be surprised, even with them making this move, that he doesn’t actually get sent down for the playoffs.
  21. That likelihood is a lot higher than no draft pick at all though. I'm not really sure why this is a big discussion though, other than someone wanted to butt heads for the hell of it.
  22. There was also a 3rd round pick, by the way. But anyway, this is why I would really love to be a fly on the wall for one of these discussions. I'd love to know exactly how the talks progress up to the point of that 6th rounder being thrown in.
  23. Right, he doesn't have to, but it doesn't hurt either.
  24. The last piece of the Jeff Skinner trade? 6th round pick. So yes, they can be late throw ins on larger deals. Beat me to it.
  25. He made a trade request and then followed it up with nothing but an effort to make sure he still comes across as a team player. He played it well. There's really not all that much to see with all of this at this point.
