Lyon starting the season as the opening goalie is a marvelous opportunity for him. If he plays well for a team that desperately needs to have a good start, it wouldn't be a surprise (at least for me) that he becomes the #1 goalie. UPL has been plagued with injuries and inconsistencies. The opportunities have been there for him to seize. He just has not been able to be dependable for a variety of reasons. Just maybe, being seriously being pushed by UPL might be the best thing for him. The Sabres are far from being a well-rounded team. But if he can get consistent solid goalie, we should be able to be in the playoff mix for the whole season. I'm predicting a Sabre win tonight. Why? Hometown bias.

You can release players. The mutual agreement is how you get that contract off of the books. With a release, it still counts.

The whole practice of giving a fanbase a name has always felt so dumb to me. That’s probably at least partly due to the fact that every single one was “nation” for a while.

It essentially is. It was spawned from their in-game PSA announcement with Rob Ray donning a Fred Rogers-esque sweater and talking about how to behave in the rink. For the B&G games, it's just Ray by himself in Mr. Rayzor's Sabrehood but for B&R games, Marty joins him as an unruly fan. Slightly cute the 1st 20 or so times they showed but, but it's now been going on for 2 or 3 years and it's starting to get a bit long in the Sabretooth.

I watch MLB playoff and World Series. Always.

The Bills Mafia is so lame.

I will not buy any Bills gear with the Mafia reference. I will not buy any Sabres gear with the word "hood" in it. I don't live there.

So Drury fired a coach who missed the playoffs - setting a standard. Hired a coach who won two Cups and let that coach replace the entire staff Cleared cap room and brought in a first pair defenseman. I didn’t know you could do that?

I’ll be on my way down to Atlanta during the game (go bills) but cheering on the Sabres in spirit. Can’t wait to watch the highlights of a Sabres 7-2 win to start the season!

Me too. Maybe after the game, but that’s about it.

I won’t be rooting for or against any one team as long as Philly loses to the Dodgers. F Philly and all of their sports teams.
