All Activity

He's what, 6 months removed from the operation? And he's what, in his 50's or 60's? Has he been told by his doctors that he shouldn't expect improvement from where he's at? Truly hope things get better for him and will keep him in our prayers. Glad he was able to get additional time courtesy of the selfless gift some other unfortunate soul gave him. Apples and kumquats to follow, but ... Know people that had hip replacements that it took them nearly a year to get back to "normal" but they are afterwords. Also know people that were pretty much back to full activity from that within a month. And realize that is a far less traumatic operation than what she underwent. Never said there wouldn't be a significant recovery time for Carolina, nor that she would necessarily ever be back to exactly where she was prior to her initial cardiac event. But, would personally be quite surprised if she isn't able to get back to a point where she'd be viewed as having a "normal" life (again, whatever the heck we are even defining normal as). But personally would be very surprised if Dahlin ends up suffering "long lasting effects on his mental state" due to this because his fiancee can't live a "normal" life. Will it take a toll on him in the ST? Would be shocked if it doesn't.

As you seem to be saying: He’s his own worst enemy. All goalies have to deal with failures. How they handle adversity without allowing it influence their play is a prerequisite to successfully play the position. Is he mentally strong enough or too fragile to recover from lapses is the issue hovering over him. With him, I just don’t know?? A criticism I have for the GM is that he hasn’t come up with an adequate backup plan just in case. That’s inexcusable, especially considering the time he has had to do so.
-
If you watched him last year it was glaringly apparent that he was flailing in the crease. Too much movement reacting instead of playing with less motion and good positioning. To make an obvious understatement, he lost his confidence in a position that requires mental toughness. If he can regain his game and stabilize his play, that would be the most positive impact any player can have for this team.

IF they do see UPL as the starter, and all indications are that they do, they are being pennywise and pound foolish if they aren't getting him regular sessions with a sports psychologist. He has the physical tools to be a top goalie in this league. But he sure does seem to get into his own head an awful lot and a SP could help him go a long way towards getting beyond that.

In fairness, they did draft Benson. -

Goaltending is such a mentally demanding position and UPL seems fragile in that department to me. He seems to need way more confidence building than other players. A good sports psychologist would do him more good than a trainer. I really don’t care which of the 4 NHL goalies takes the net, I just want some competency to give them a chance to win games. Levi is my favourite because of his personality and potential. I also want to see some positive returns from the Reinhart deal.

I got your message, but I hope KA’s 10 year plan includes a few meanies, not every player that wants to be there has to be nice. -
I sure need more than 28 points out of him if he is going to be on a first line. Just by luck touching the puck he should get more. BUT, if he is on the first line and only gets 40-50, I won't be TOO upset if the entire line is doing well. I'm not as worried about the point totals of each player on the line, vs how the line performs as a whole.

Yes, I come down firmly on the side of ICE agents doing their job. Protests are no longer peaceful when they actively obstruct. And yes, big Bertha did deserve to be arrested.
-
Any Sabres powerplay that doesn't have the name "Cozens" on it sounds really good to me (until they go 3 games without a PP goal at least).
-
Agreed. 2 years ago he was a top 10 goalie, and for the 2nd half the the year probably the 2nd best guy in the league. Last year he was a lost cause. WHEN he returns healthy, I think its equally probably he returns to either form.

I'm not big into baseball anymore. As a little kid I liked the Blue Jays (got to go see some games in person) but as I got to be an older kid, teenager, and into my 20s, I became a Yankees fan simply because they were on TV so much. I really don't care at all about the Yankees anymore, and I think part of that is they just don't seem that likeable, the players or the team in general, for the last decade or so. For those that are really big Yankee fans, do you seem like the teams in recent years have just been less 'likeable' (for lack of better word), or as big time fans are you able to see through that?

The Sabres draft Rosens when they should draft Bensons. Mrtka gives me some hope, as I keep saying, every time I see more my opinion on him goes up.

The BoSox are a year away. Would be great to slip in the playoffs this season, but next year is when their window really opens.

Yet Another Example of Fascist Behavior
Hank replied to K-9's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
A bigger problem are the people like you. IF YOU DONT THINK EXACTLY LIKE I DO YOU'RE A FASCIST AND NAZI SUPPORTER!!! Center leaning democrats have been hearing that garbage for the last decade and they're tired of it. It's people like you constantly screeching FASCIST and NAZI that drove our own people to put Trump in office. It's people like you attacking our own for not reflexively hating anything and everything Trump does that is the problem. Case in point, I've frequently expressed views and opinions that are aligned with yours, we are not very different politically. But, because I sometimes share things I find interesting and relevant, without offering any endorsement or approval of the content, you like to label me as MAGA. I'm not MAGA, and I take offense to it. You, K-9, are the problem. Find some self awareness and try being part of the solution. -

I must say Lindy has looked very much himself so far in training camp: engaged and sending/revealing messages to his players through the media. I’ve learned: Power has been told he has the tools to be a top defensive defenceman and to make killing plays the focus of his game. Byram has been told he was far more effective last year trying to be Devon Toews than Cale Makar, so lean in to what works. Samuelsson was told he was out of shape and unprepared last year, and that’s on him. But good players learn from adversity and he can still be a 20-plus minute shutdown D. Jack Quinn, see above and sub in scoring winger. Josh Doan and Zach Benson have been told if they’re more than checkers, show me. Tuch and Thompson have been told they’ve got more to give and to be the players they want to be, they’ve got to give it. Josh Norris has been told this is his opportunity to be an all-situations 1C and show the league who he really is. I thought Lindy was a lousy coach last year. Maybe he can be better.

Goalie problem solved!

Pretty sad that team Blue got their ***** kicked in.

4-0 White final according to PHam. Kulich rips one from the slot after forcing a neutral zone turnover. Byram knocks lose a puck from Lyon going to the net on a PP, Doan taps it in. Rosen rips in the third. Wahlberg sets up Malenstyn off a Dahlin turnover. Georgiev with the the shutout
