  1. Past hour
  2. This stupid event has more pages of conversation than a mid season Sabres game. Even Promo the Bot is more active than for actual games.
  3. The idea our "reward" for the single most catastrophic failure of a season in team history is likely a AAAA "not an AHL player but not an NHL player either" guy is just beyond depressing.
  4. I think it could be wise to keep the pick and in 3-4 years have a player on a cheap contract to hopefully put in the line-up. We have plenty of other assets to trade, like Rosen for example, that will never be roster players for Sabres but might be one on another team.
  5. I don't love Mrtka. His outlet passing is questionable. His offensive zone game is just ok. Really he's a #3/4 defender with good gap control and some physicality. If he was 3" shorter, he'd be a late teens early 20s pick. I hope for 2 things to happen now. McQueen goes in the top 8 and anther defender goes top 8 as well. Maybe something like: Schaefer, Misa, Desnoyers, Hagens, Martone, McQueen, Smith, Frondell, then Buffalo.
  6. I think character matters for bpa or the characteristics of how you play. For example, I value Bear and Martin more than O'Brien even though the latter might score more nhl points. To your point on defenders, I think 2 will go top 8. I just don't believe we'll see 7 forwards taken after Schaefer.
  7. Today
  8. Islanders is rigged? If it was rigged it would have been Boston or Pittsburgh.
  9. Pick #9, Quinn and Samuelsson or Clifton for a proper top 4 D man. How about that? (the Clifton/Samuelsson part is to shed salary to help pay Byram and that top 4 D man long term) for example. As above, it has to be a package.
  10. Bennett be Bennett, otherwise Florida and Bobrovski came out flat. I would think they will be better next game.
  11. Did Utah jump a full 10 spots by winning the second drawing or did they jump 9? It feels strange that the prize for them would be identical whether they win the first or the second drawing. And actually, this has me wondering about a different scenario. What if it had been reversed, Utah wins the first drawing and the Islanders the second. Does NYI wind up with 1 overall in that scenario?
  12. I just meant I'm not sure where he ends up in team's rankings. I wasn't suggesting jumping way down but if some team around 12 desperately wants one of the D men that are ranked around 9-10 maybe you can do that. I'd be fine with taking him at 9. I like him a lot as a future NHL player. When the Bruins looked like a picking 12-15 type team I suggested Bear there. Cause he's good, and well, "Bear" on the Bruins, you can't get better than that. Now that they are where they are taking Bear would be strange. Sabres on the other hand don't have to get the analytical BPA they can weigh things towards character and type and make the move. I am sure whoever gets him will have made a good pick.
  13. Because we need change. We can't just keep doing what we have been doing and expect a different result. Any player we draft 9th isn't making an impact in the NHL for at least 2-3 years. That's a useless asset as far as I'm concerned. Find a cap strapped team with a crappy talent pool and trade them the 9th pick for an NHL player that helps us make the Sabres better. If they 9th pick isn't enough to get the right player, than add other assets, but get something done.
  14. Utah moved from 14th to 4th. I guess that’s what 750 million does
  15. If the Sabres keep the pick, I'd go in this order: Misa, Schaefer, Desnoyers, Hagens, Martone (no chance to be there) Martin, Bear, O'Brien, Eklund (one of them will be available at 9) Mrtka, Aitcheson, Frondell, Reschny, Cootes (others) I avoid McQueen (two-time back injury already? that's Huglen again) Note: O'Brien is my Sabres sleeper on account they've drafted teammate Leenders and may like O'Brien from repeated close viewings. Note2: For kicks, Draft Mrtka and rush him to the NHL because he's so good in camp and is too young to play in the AHL. Power-Mrtka.
  16. If the player they target isn't at least 6'2", missing some teeth, and has a nickname akin to "the Butcher", then package the pick with Power and go find someone like that.
  17. Package the pick with Byram and get some NHL assets like a goalie and top 4 D. If we end up taking someone, get the Bear or trade up to get Martone.
  18. G-d I hate being right. NHL rigged as usual.
  19. Not predicting anything, but from the outside looking in at team needs and mock rankings, one would think Mtrka would be very much in consideration. McQueen is another obvious need-filler. If they are confident about his health, 9 seems right about where risk meets reward.
  20. Friday June 27. 😤
  21. No wonder Lance was more outspoken about the buffoonery related to the Sabres. He graduated to the Bills.
  22. I get that, but your comment read like they won the lottery because they sacked their GM.

  24. The theory is the league did it as a make good for hosing them out of the ASG (which the team used access to as a renewal incentive BTW). (Yes I know it's total nonsense).
  25. The owner (whose mall at the UBS site is failing badly btw) started shitting bricks when he saw the renewal numbers, which is the reason he sacked Lou. This is pretty much common knowledge.
  26. To me this shows it isn't rigged, why in the world would the NHL want the Islanders to win for any reasoning?
