  1. Past hour
  2. The players that players that could get the sabres back to the playoffs are players that are high variance types. The type that you honestly dont know what you're going to get season to season. To me, the three that could massively out perform expectations are quinn, upl, and norris (for injury reason). You get a good to great season from any or all of these guys... we should be talking about playoffs. Honorable mention to doan and levi
  3. Today
  4. "The criteria is play forward, are the 4th guy on that team in points." You're proving my point, Benson was 9th on the team in points (forwards).... how does that translate to top 6 winger? I suppose that was all Ruff's and Cozens fault? I'm not buying it.
  5. I just met Jim Lorentz at the Sabres BBQ at Sahlen Field today. I wanted to tell him my story of getting a bat out of our church this past Sunday. The bat showed up in the front pew at the end of mass. I was able to cover him with a trash bin, slide a piece of plastic under it, and get him out. I told Mr. Lorentz my story. He told me that he was almost ARRESTED after his bat incident for animal cruelty! 😂
  6. K-9, thank you.
  7. If they are interested in growing the game and making more money, you'd assume both parties would be interested. This reeks of an owner's concession to pay less money. Short sighted logic. If they didnt allow nmc's, you wouldn't have to worry about bargain deals in no tax states.
  8. Seeing the game and knowing where to be is a great speed equalizer. Can’t skate fast (but edge work is borderline elite), can’t shoot very hard (yet) but one helluva hockey player in the meantime.
  9. Yeah this is probably the most boring time. Baseball is cool but no MLB Buffalo team to root for. Not much Sabres news. Preseason football is ok.
  10. While a 3% GDP growth is good news in general, it remains to be seen how good moving forward. Per economists, an underlying look may be of concern going forward as a few reasons for the growth over the first quarter was attributed to sharp decline in imports and exports, weak underlying demand, and decreased investment that could mean that businesses are being cautious. There are articles out there. Here’s one I read recently: https://www.marketplace.org/story/2025/07/30/gdp-growth-is-decent-but-not-as-hot-as-it-first-looks
  11. Yesterday
  12. He’d make a good winger for a playmaking center, methinks.
  13. Again, Reinhart’s shot got stronger. Dahlin’s shot got stronger. Power. Krebs. And Gionta won the Sabres internal hardest shot competition in Eichel’s rookie year. As the body matures, you can add power and shave release time off the shot. Benson will become a better shooter as he reaches his early 20s. But the vision, all-around game, and ability to get the pass to the slot is there. His lower speed is the concern, but Reinhart is no speed demon and has been… fine.
  14. This is the way. As a team, tenacity and defensive coverage are the most important efforts. But all is for naught if they get goaltending like last season. If they get 2023-24 Ullmark, AHL 2025 Levi, and down-the-stretch 22-23 Lyon…. Then yes. Playoffs happen. That’s a bunch of If.
  15. Dog days are over now. I’ve decided to reinstate the annual pilgrimage (this year) to Vancouver to see the Sabres. My wife and I will make a 4-day weekend of it. Should be fun. And if the border crossing is smooth … they play in Seattle at 5 pm on that Sunday. The elusive double dip is possible.
  16. One. What would you like my opinion on?
  17. 1. UPL or whomever wins the goaltending derby. 2. Seth Appert. Having a useful PP would do wonders for this team. His getting his head out of his bippy would be incredible. Literally. 3. Marty Wilford. If somebody could help him figure out what sort of a farm animal HIS head is stuck up; it could be a start towards his extricating said head from said farm animal's bippy. There'll still be effort required to extract it, but he has to find that melon before he can even plan the extraction process of it. Listed that one as #3 because it is the least likely to happen.
  18. It’s definitely that time, which coincides with reaching the peak of over-emotional slap fights around here.
  19. The Sabres’ organization is constructed and staffed the way TP wants it to be. It’s his toy to play with. He has the authority to make the substantive changes you listed. Will he make them? Probably not, at least right now. I really believe that it will take outside pressure (league office) to force him to act more competently.
  20. On a scale of 1-10 how afraid are you to actually give your own insight on anything you post?
  21. All NHL front offices are taking a break. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few interns were going over some of the video, stats, analytics for the coming season. The media outlets follow suit. There is actually some hockey on today and the next week or so. The Gretzky-Hlinka U18 tournament is starting. I believe TSN is televising some of the games in Canada. 2026-27 draft eligible kids will be trying to win a championship, impress scouts and world junior executives. I used to have OHL season’s tickets and was way more in tune with this level of the game but not so much. I may tune in for some action.
  22. It's the time of year when I definitely start to miss it. Had enough of a head cleaning break and ready for new hockey. I don't like football enough any more for that to carry me into the fall.
  23. I've heard this rumor out of Boston chatter but I don't know if it's generated by actual trade talks or just fans desires to move him because they didn't like what they saw last year. Moving him back to Buffalo could be good for both teams but I'm not sure what Buffalo would send the other way. If Boston wants draft picks I could see it working for sure. He would fill the forward gap created by Peterka leaving and if/when Helenius or someone else is ready we could decide to keep or ditch him then.
  24. I imagine the guy's not too smart, or at least thinks slowly and has trouble keeping up with the speed of the game. We failed to recognize these things and placed him in a top role with high expectations. He needs to restart in a lower and more sheltered position with a simplified game. It's not unlike Risto in that way but with different positional issues. I don't know what Ottawa will do or expect but with a full camp and recognition of who and what he is they might fix him and turn him into a productive middle 6 forward.
