You called me out. Adam Nightingale played in the ECHL and was a college HC coach. Sam Ventura is still a computer nerd and Karmanos was a banker. I’m not on the Geertsen is the difference bandwagon, but you can’t deny the team has become a bit tougher over the past 2 years. And the Amerks is suddenly full of veteran bruisers after perennially getting bounced from the playoffs by bigger, tougher teams.

Geertsen is not fast or high intensity. I don't even think he's that physical, probably because he's not fast enough to be that. Further the guy plays 4 shifts total a night. Meanwhile Zach Benson is just staring y'all in the face along with Doan... but nah, Geertsen is the key.

Man I poo poo'd the Mrtka a bit when it happened cause I wanted the pick traded, but he looks like the real deal. When he is ready he is gonna be a big piece for the Sabres D core for a long long time

I like Perbix

Looks like he handled himself fine.

When my son was in HS (band nerd, not football team, but I went to the games), the football team got their butts handed to them every year by three strong teams in their district. A good year was when they beat the two other teams in the district. They never had better than a 3-7 season. Then when my son was a junior, they got their butts handed to them by one of the strong teams, making them 1-4 on the season so far. The next week was Homecoming against the second strong team. In a muddy mess of a rain storm, they came out ahead, 10-6. The following week they played the third strong team and.... beat them too. They didn't lose for the rest of the season and won a state championship (this is Texas, mind you). But only by being challenged did they get any better.

Lol we've reached just absurd levels of revision and ***** around here.
-
And yet it took Ruff coming to Buffalo for our FO to figure this out. Granted, it is run by a few computer nerds and a “Banker” (Google “Karmanos Sabres” and Google identifies him as a “Banker”), our GM who is a former NHL player should’ve been able to figure this out.
-
You're right, Zach Benson feels empowered now because Geertsen is on the bench.
-
Now do the other games, they got their ***** caved in where he we also on the bench. Concept of Kassian but worse because the guy doesn't even play. Also they literally have to change the lineup because Danforth and Bryson have gotten injured. It is amazing the mental gymnastics some of y'all will go through to justify Geertsen when the real reason the Sabres won the last two games is literally other players.

Easily to coolest name in all of sports. Especially because it’s pronounced Jack-eye.

I'm not advocating for taking a bunch of penalties, but I don't think that's where Montreal excels. As a team, they are better in transition, not what is set offense like you have in the power play. And I think so far this year... And definitely last year, their power play ranks in the bottom half of the league if I'm not mistaken.

Random video short of some very wise words.
-
Right, except the team played bigger with him on the bench. You think that was just magic. It's not. They need to play like they did in the last game every game. We shall see if they do, or if they drift back to their old bad habits. Montreal is a tough test with their speed and tenacity. So you don't mess with a winning line up.
-
This has always been the way it is. Players take less liberties if they know they will have to answer the bell and your team will play tougher knowing there is a guy to support them if things go that way. Eventually, if you get a tough team by committee these guys become less important and maybe even unnecessary. They sit in the stands in the playoffs as well, but right now, with all the kids and some softer players we need that guy. I suspect anyone who doesn't get this has either never played hockey or learned their hockey from video games and computer stats.
-
Really, a 2-3 start doesn’t sway you? In seriousness it’s understandable. Personally I’ve realized I literally can’t be sucked back in until they make a change at GM. Too much baggage there. I think they were actually close to being in a playoff spot at the mythic thanksgiving mark last year - started the day in a spot but by the time the thanksgiving games were completed we were actually in 9th.

Ever since going to the UK I'm spoiled with fish... We have some decent options around here but it doesn't hit the same.... I've been frying my own up with a traditional British batter, getting fresh cod or haddock locally and hand cutting the potatoes and doing the double crisp method. It's officially getting into stew/soup/fish fry season
