Anyone can learn defense and the right fundamentals, the question is do they want to.

Around the NHL: 2024-2025 Season
French Collection replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
I find that some years it was a trophy given to a centre who was never going to win an Art Ross or Hart trophy but was a good scoring C and good defensively. Since the Lehkonen days the defensive specialist wingers like Gainey and Ramsey are not really in the conversation. Same as the Norris going to a Rod Langway type, it’s now the Art Ross of Dmen. -
It took a good five minutes before I realized there was a beer.

For the Selke, you have to: Play center (unless you're Jere Lehtinen). Be listed as a center on NHL.com (see Reinhart) Make the playoffs For myself, I just sort the forwards by +/-: Protas +40, Lehkonen +36, Foegele +36. I like being lazy.

Yea... I think Bear might be my 8th ranked player.

Around the NHL: 2024-2025 Season
French Collection replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
The Canadian broadcasts are constantly talking about his defensive prowess, especially when he is not scoring. No way is he in the same league as Barkov, Kopitar etc.. -
-
I mean either EP40 or Robertson could fit in my trade scenarios, I just went with the Center that already has the long term contract in place.
-
They should but the question is why would the Sabres look to move away from that unless he not a team player/and or unwilling to stay here? And if we do move on from him how to we replace him and improve the team at the same time? Yes, it likely going to take more than 1 move hence my suggestion in getting after EP40 after moving JJP for a RHD Dman on a low salary but still a RFA after this salary runs out, a prospect and hopefully a pick we can flip for a forward that is arguably better than JJP.

Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor
Mango replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Now is the time to do it with Ruff in the building. Ruff/Jarmo v Pegula/Adams stands a chance. But Jarmo will lose that alone 100 times out of 100. And according to the article, it sounds as though it has been Pegula/Adams vs the world since Pegula bought the team. -
They owe it all to advertising.

The Mexican Navy ship looks like something from the Spanish Armada.

Arent't the Sabres still paying Skinner? So...we can say a current Sabre (employee) is playing for the cup?? Does that count?? 🤔

Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block
Archie Lee replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
In a vacuum, I would be excited for a Robertson acquisition. I’m not sure it would be a slam-dunk though. Robertson’s production and defensive metrics have been produced while playing almost exclusively with one of the best two-way centres in the NHL (Hintz), on one of the league’s top 5 teams, under elite head coaches (Bowness, then DeBoer). I would not go so far as to say he is fully a product of his environment (clearly he is talented), but we might be trading for a 70 point winger whose great two-way metrics were driven by his centre and team structure. -
I guess I am expecting more from voters/hockey writers. I would have thought the season that Tuch had would get him top 5 in votes.
-
Robertson is such an Adams target as far as checking boxes. He needs a win now producer, who also plays a two way game in their prime. This is NOT only an obvious hope for Sabres fans, it's an obvious choice for that blithering idiot with the GM hat on.
-
Here's hoping Skinner can win a cup. As well as McDavid/Draisaitl, who are deserving of their chance to hoist the cup. In addititon, it's long time a Canadian market that isn't Toronto wins a cup. I never want to see that happen. Our new Jeff Skinner is Josh Norris. Though he's more injury prone.
-
Because he's in the media center of the hockey universe and Tuch plays for a team that is simply bad, not absolute bottom of the league bad, and nobody bothers thinking about anybody on that team when it comes time for end of the season awards. The voters remember Matthews name because he's talked about quite a bit. When's the last time any of them gave any thought to Alex Tuch? Most likely is was the last time the Loafs played in Buffalo. And he was forgotten as quickly as TO left the rink. How was Ovechkin voted into the end of season All Star team as both a LW and a RW one year?
-
Since Brandon and Berchtold got shown the door, they've been pretty tight lipped at 1BD and SHKIIIP. And with players & staff (at those that haven't been canned by teams not afraid to can people in the front office/hockey departments) and staff still under contract until the end of this month, there aren't a lot of sources besides player agents to be dropping names. It isn't likely a rival GM is going to be too aggressive saying they're interested in a particular player when he's under contract to another team unless a deal is imminent; tampering provisions and all.

Jeff Skinner, the person does not bother me. I certainly don’t root against him or any team he plays on. Just glad he’s not wasting a roster spot on this team (I know how worse off would they be with him). I’m hoping McDavid gets his cup. Been a long time coming.
