You don't put him on the 4th line. You demote someone else.

He’s not a good enough two-way player yet, so Lindy wouldn’t do that.

Power, Timmins, and Byram all had more TOI than Dahlin.  Muel’s TOI was up there too.

A Bryson out side effect?

Probably giving him a rest since they had the lead. Plus those guys play the PK more.

Doan with not a lot of ice time this game.

My guess is his line this game was Doan-McLeod-Tuch. The Sabres were on the PK so much this game, and his line-mates of Tuch and McLeod are used on the PK so much....that after the PK was over those guys needed a rest, so unfortunately Doan was on the bench with them.

If not for that, I think he would have had more ice time than 13:55

So much time on the PK likely played into that.

There was one little play late in the game that I thought said a lot. I’m forgetting the names at this point. One of the Florida forwards pushed our defenseman at the whistle. A second or two later, that panther had 4 Sabres standing directly in front of him. There was no contact beyond that point, it was just a simple “yeah, this scrum is over”.

They seem to be playing for each other more.  And also they seem to be a LOT more in sync with their passing.

Dahlin pretty much said that same thing in his post game interview. He said, "This is how we play from now on."

IMO Benson.  Looking better than I could have imagined.  Catalyst is the best word I can think of.  He’s driving a culture change.

Doan is better than I expected.  He's doing pretty well for himself and that helps the team.  Benson, though, is the heart of the team right now.  I'm already looking ahead in my mind to the Sabres moving Tuch if he won't sign a long term deal, and maybe trading one or to of their other stars to shore up the build that's going on right now with Kulich, Benson, Doan, Krebs, Kozak, etc.

Looking at the D, I think once Kesselring is back, the defense will be largely set going forward for the next little bit.

But on the offense, watch for people like Tuch and Thompson to get moved.  When I watch the team it almost feels like they're outsiders now.

You brought up Kozak. A few other post brought him up also.

Is there a growing opinion that he should be a permanent member of this team, and any chance anyone thinks he is anything other than a 4th liner?

Lot of winnable games coming up. Need the top paid guys to start scoring

I guess every game is 'winnable', but I don't think they have things easy coming up at all...

Montreal and Detroit the next 2....both are 4-1 and actually look really good....then a home-and-home vs Toronto?  Its not exactly the Isles, Flyers, and C-bus.

Their next 10 games have opponents with combined record of 31-16.

Bryson in concussion protocol

Yet no penalty.  Hmm.  I wonder where Colin Campbell's son works.  Maybe he even has a sliver of ownership.

I think he's a bottom sixer who will be part of the team going forward.  He may get bounced back to the AHL, but I think late last year he shifted from an AHLer to a tweener in my mind, and I think he is moving from tweener to NHLer as we speak.

Benson, Doan, Krebs, Kodak across the lines are shifting our culture.  No longer waiting around for Tage to score, but creating opportunities.   Entire D was engaged and physical.

Granddaughter’s middle school chorus singing the anthem at the Crunch game tonight and I’m looking forward to watching Amerks D men.

Kodak Kozak, Hey that's pretty good. Both he and Malenstyn played more time short handed than they did 5 on 5. Amazing job on the PK.

That was the general impression I got... so it's verified I guess.  It's almost as if they were holding them back so they'd be fresh when killing penalties.

Hopefully that’s the case because on top of that, they still have reinforcements incoming.

Doan and Benson now the topping the scoring leaders for the team after 5 games, (Benson only playing 2 of them)

Who had that before the season started?

I'm half way there with you.

I don't think it should be true, and I'd normally rather have the better overall player...but maybe there is something to it?

See, this what we should have done when we first started to rebuild. Traded Eichel etc. When you rebuild with youth you want some solid toughness on the roster. Bodyguards if you will. When you do that those kids learn it's okay to initiate cause somebody will have my back. The team grows and plays bigger and then eventually you don't need that guy as much cause you have an army. In time, he won't be needed most nights, but for now he's vital.

Why has it taken 20 years for someone to punk Marchand?

I can see Benson following in his footsteps.  Sans the helmet trick of course.

Eichel asked for more toughness on more than one occasion.  He was spot on.

I could actually see Benson doing all of it, even the helmet thing (or something similar). Benson is a brat and I love it.

True about Eichel. There was a standing around nobody doing anything incident with Eichel getting flattened way back before last year's Tage incident. I think it was in Colorado but I kind of throw old seasons out of the memory with all the previous garbage seasons. I just go from GM to GM though as a new era so under Adams, he should have addressed this right away and if he had we wouldn't be discussing it now.
