Just another PMD.  Trade him for an NHL player, prospects or picks.  Use the money elsewhere.

Not sure if you mean Nick or Marcus, but Marcus Foligno I could see as a vet 4th liner maybe occasional 3rd  I hated losing him in the idiotic trade that sent him to Minn. He was the type of player we should have put value on.  Could be the nostalgia but I would love to see him come back...

Minny would never but ya Folgino back is just such a no brainer its crazy

 

Kolesar is also one ive wanted for awhile and I think the Sabres have too, I remember a few years ago there was rumors that he was almost traded here

Logjams at the 4th line aren't a good thing unless you have an over abundance of prospects you're trying to bring into the league. Yeah sorry I can't see trading a top or second line Dman for a bottom 6 forward and bottom 4 Dman.

Yes, been to St Louis a lot and they have a rabid fan base, a owner that wants to win, a winning culture, and its actually a very nice city too.

 

(As a city it is similar to Buffalo but lacks the beauty of the Great Lakes.   They certainly have lots of inner city problems and also many very beautiful and wealthy suburbs)

A lot of media noise yesterday concerning the Blues trying hard to make a deal for Byram.

They have cap concerns which means they would have to deal vets in return to make it work. The offer sheet idea for them makes no sense .

There's talk they could put Torey Krug on LTIR which would free up $6.5m of their cap. Yet if rumors of Byram wanting $9.0m then they'd still have to make another move to get under the cap.

I don't understand the thought process for $9 million per year. 

Is he a high draft pick with potential? I guess so. But nothing in his play, even if you dig deep into the advanced stats, says $9 million per year... Or even close to that.

If Byram is as good as he believes to be then possibly his best contract enhancing strategy should be to take is a bridge deal. He then will have the opportunity to demonstrate his current and future market value. The cap is going up so that should also increase his future value. The advantage for Buffalo is that if he plays well, he helps the team. And if his potential future salary becomes too big to handle, then his trade value also increases.

What it comes down to for the GM  is that a Byram trade either returns a commensurate asset or he is retained and helps the team right now. I have been a harsh critic of KA. But in his handling of the Byram situation he is doing it deftly.

I think it is just that 9 million isn't what it used to be.  It's July 4th and there are 19 teams with $5 million in cap space and 14 with $10 million. And many of those teams have no notable RFA's left to sign. I don't think he will get $9, but the floating of $9 maybe gets him $8 - $8.5.

I'll reserve judgment.  For now, I see a GM whose off-season has been dictated to him by a couple of young players who don't want to be here.  I don't see a GM who is proactively working a plan to take his team into the playoffs.

It's an ugly reality that players don't want to come here and even worse players here want out. The blame for this plight is internal. When you shoot yourself in the foot you don't run well. My worry is if the situation isn't turned around soon then players such as Dahlin, Tage and Tuch say enough. Get me out of here. 

In my view, I agree with you that there hasn't been much of a roster change. The biggest altering impact is not going to come from the recent roster alterations. It will be the caliber of our goaltending this upcoming season. That's the biggest issue for me and question mark for me. If the play from that position isn't elevated, then all the other actions don't matter. That's how I see it.

Sure trade 20 somethings for overaged 30 somethings makes perfect sense for a team that is even close to sniffing a Stanley Cup this coming season. Just kill me. At least with the JJP trade we got back guys of similar age.

Making a bad deal due to impatience is what bargaining teams want you to do. If you are not getting fair value back, then just hold on to your asset until you get a fair return.

And they are hamstrung making an offer sheet for Byram because they lack a 2026 R2 pick.

I think this is exactly what Byram wants but he won’t get the opportunity here with Dahlin and Power.   He wants / needs to be “the guy” on PP1 to put up some numbers that get him in the $9M discussion.  His career has been second fiddle to Makar and Dahlin so you can’t blame him for looking for opportunity.  I think it has nothing to do with the city and culture.
