Bad hires, bad decisions, bad luck, all of which compounds year after year.

But unlike other years, I think the Sabres have the pieces to get over the hump. Despite our feelings about Adams, the Sabres have good players. The Amerks have a stocked pipeline. Lindy has to figure out how to get it all to click. Unlike most NHL teams the Sabres are forced to develop their own talent as signing top free agents is difficult with the long drought.

So Terry Pegula. Glad we've reached consensus.

How those teams are run is all conjecture on our part. We have to make sense of the incongruity.

I have a high regard for your loyalty and willingness to put your $$$ down for all the Buffalo teams. But it's not much of a challenge to discern why the Bills/Bandits are a success and the Sabres are a failed and mocked franchise. You are too smart of a fellow to fall in line with the company line about the misfortunes of the hockey franchise. As in any enterprise, incompetence has predictable results. Check the record. It's not difficult to understand the reasons why.

I agree. He hasn't done well with the Sabres. But whether it's skill or dumb luck, his other teams are good. I hold out hope for the Sabres.

It's dumb luck. The team he has the most direct input on is trash and has been trash almost since he walked through the door. Terry Pegula is a problem and keeping his yes man unqualified lackey in the GM chair is more proof of just how woefully full of ***** Terry has become. He smells his own farts and calls it roses.

He's never made the playoffs.

His contract handouts are questionable.

His teams have gotten worse each of the last 3yrs.

He admitted he got Byram just cuz.

He admitted he's never gotten a partner for Power.

He drafted Quinn over Rossi.

He promoted Appert and is grooming him for HC.

He lied about the previous coach search.

He's a self defeating poor leader.

So Terry Pegula, why TF is Adams still GM?

and he is about as likeable as a thumbtack on a seat...

That's the freaking point! The solution is not to continue doing the same thing by the same people who got you stuck in the deep ditch. Go find someone who has the proverbial tow truck that can get you out of the hole.

Because he does what Terry tells him to do. This is the classic yes man.  Competency doesn’t matter.

I think theres a little nuance here.

I don't think he just does what Terry wants.

I think they are in lockstep and in full agreement on most things around rh franchise. I think Pegula thinks him and Adams are like McBeane. A singular unit that just needs some time to find success. They likely tell themselves that there is no quick fix in the NHL like the QB position.

Still under contract.  Has been paid a lot of money for OJT.

Replacing GMs hasn’t worked yet.  Gun shy about doing it again.

With the current roster there’s no guarantee a new GM could make a short term improvement. Might as well wait a year until contract is expired.

Lindy and KA may have convinced TP they know the roster issuers and have a plan to address.

Let the contracts work themselves out and prove to next year’s candidates he’s not a hatchet man.

Plan is to bring in a POHO and let him/her figure it out.

Just spitballing.

Such a sad state of affairs. From here forward, starting with Adams representing the Sabres at yesterday’s lottery, the 25-26 season will exist under the cloud of “here we go again”.  Draft picks and trades and free agent signings, will all be tainted by the reality that they are being overseen by a GM who has clearly demonstrated he is not capable of fulfilling the role. Every blown 3rd period lead, two-game losing streak, failure of a Sabre to sufficiently stand-up for a teammate, will be viewed in the context of 14 years out of the playoffs, and 5 years of failures under Adams. An expectation of failure has soaked the culture of the organization. This is how you have a 13 game losing streak in December of a must-win season.

All I can say is that I am sorely disappointed. They seem determined to be the feeder team to the rest of the league by developing and then alienating players until they ask out or fall into a depressive spiral.

The fact Adams apparently presented to Pegula for multiple days makes me even less enthused as it likely means that rather than Pegula not caring or being a cheap skate; he's likely just getting the wool pulled over his eyes over and over again. Granted that would make Adams some sort of Machiavellian villain but it could be the case.

He's a guy who ingratiated his way up the ladder with the Pegulas, gained their inherent trust and now holds one of the most powerful positions under them. Adams saying Pegula will give him whatever money he needs doesn't necessarily have to be a lie. If my boss said to me, here's a blank check and you're goal was retaining your job would you actually look to use it to its entirety. Instead using under the budget makes you look smart and fiscally savvy. Pegula wants to know how the team can succeed and thus Adams gives a multiple day presentation using specially procured data to show the team is on the precipice of greatness. Pegula has 50 things on his mind and a trust issue after Lafontaine and Murray; Adams is in a unique situation where he's the trusted advisor. Regardless of the standings; if data "says" the team should be doing better; its not unrealistic for Terry to look at it and chalk it up to bad luck. Effectively Terry Pegula is a fan of the team who has plenty of distractions and thus can be manipulated. Adams doesn't need to sell us the team's future; only Terry.

It's time for the players to take a stand and demand to be traded if ka remains as gm

Or what? They don’t show up to their jobs and get suspended without pay?  I guess that’s a path they could take.

To add to LGR's excellent compendium, KA also said he should have done something while the season circled the drain during the losing streak last season.

And winning next season, as many of us hope they will, will solve a lot of problems.

Was it Adam's fault the PP stunk so bad early yast year? Or the goaltending took a dump?

Youngest team in hockey loses, and that's a surprise?

I agree with you. And BTW, this is sports, not science. Today is the first day of the rest of the Sabres sports life. Levi coming up, Norris hopefully getting healthy and this might be a fun team next year.

I'll now go put my helmet on and hide....

Nah, you're good. You're just a different breed of cat. At least here. Actually your approach is very normal among the fan base at large I'm sure. At Cynic Central here, not so much.

You and PTR and 7+6 rankle me, but you need the sugar to go with the spice.

Honestly I'm also reasonably hopeful next year is the year for aluminum Cups and fancy bunting in the arena (did that tradition make its way from the Aud?).

They just have to do it. Just. Do. It.

KA, LR and the players could start with a statement about owning the drought.

Everyone keeps saying "Pegula trusts Kevin Adams" what does that mean? Did the last GM eat some food in the fridge that said "Property of Pegula" on it?

The only trust I see from KA is the trust in building a bad team.
