  1. Was at the game at Staples last night. Good times. Kings' jumbotron does a bit where they show a Kings fan then a opposing fan and repeat, so the crowd cheers then boos then cheers then boos. Because I was close to the camera, and maybe because I have a beard, I was chosen to be the face of evil. I ended up on the jumbotron all night long. A bunch of my hockey playing buddies have Kings season tickets but weren't sitting near me or maybe even knew I was going to the game, so as soon as they saw me, my phone blew up. Even a friend from high school that lives out here, whom I hadn't talked to in years and years, chatted me up on facebook because she saw me on the jumbotron. In the third period, the Kings' mascot (Bailey the Lion) decided to come on down and ###### with me, so pretended I was going to fight him- he pulled away a high five, so my buddy "held me back." The kids (about 10 and 13) sitting behind me thought it was hilarious. Kings fans were overwhelmingly respectful. Got a lot of handshakes and high fives for being "jumbotron guy" and a good sport. Only one or two had few enough brain cells to yell out "Sabres suck" near me, but when I retorted that we're one game closer to Connor McDavid, they quickly developed a cow stare, as they didn't know anything about anything. Pretty damn good percentage of friendlies for being in "enemy" territory. Post-gamed at the nearest Irish bar (within two blocks of Staples), walked in, and it was empty except for about a dozen Sabres fans. So we knocked back a few and had some good laughs.
  2. Lots of press lauding the classiness of the Penguins' singing of the Canadian national anthem before their game. No report I've seen mentions that Buffalo always does this or the moment of silence in Buffalo at the OHL game. Not a big deal, but sometimes it feels like we're in our own little world.
  3. Chose to go to tomorrow nights game instead of tonight's game (couldn't swing both). Ducks 5th in G/GP, LA is 23rd. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
  4. Pizzalogs and Drafts.
  5. Really depends on when we're talking about. Two years from now, when we're just commencing the real competition, just starting to bring in UFAs, and probably still developing some kids from the next draft, looks awfully different from five-six years from now, when we're fully built and crushing the Eastern Conference. The more immediate core has guys like Gionta, Moulson, Foligno, and possibly Kaleta, wherein later on, if they're still around, may be fringe. Truly long-term core guys you build a team with/around: Girgensens. Very good core-complimentary pieces: Myers. Edge between fringe and core: Gorges (with upside), Ennis, Hodgson, and maybe Deslauriers.
  6. Way to be. Probably the most dominant player at their position in franchise history.
  7. According to this ###### right here, they do, yes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycy-e4EdWfE
  8. Well Chuck E Cheese serves beer (I read online), so there's that.
  9. Haha, the stink of pizzalog, bile, and shame.
  10. This has no relevance to Buffalo history, but I'd celebrate to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33teK7L4DM4
  11. This comment is not directed at anyone in particular, it is simply a truth: Being easily offended is not validation of moral superiority.
  12. There's room in the Open Division. Otherwise, if you want to chow Pizza Logs in a tailgate-like situation pre- or post-game near the arena, you'd still qualify for the Novice or Elite Divisions.
  13. "Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood."
  14. Or he's been a capable parent for two decades.
  15. I won't say why, but i think i dodged a bullet.
  16. Very weird debate on the BOS-DET broadcast tonight: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/15/video-milbury-mckenzie-debate-fightings-place-in-the-nhl/ Mike Milbury departs his historical view that was in favor of fighting, now proclaims that fighting must be eliminated immediately. Bob McKenzie is positioned on the show to argue against Milbury in favor of fighting, but instead of taking Milbury's usual overzealous bait, simply and calmy says the argument is irrelevant and that the NHL's powers-that-be aren't compelled to eliminate it yet.
  17. Hahaa, here come the post deletes.
  18. This is true, but looking amongst all defensemen in the league, they're still playing some of the toughest minutes and their absolute (or non-relative) corsi is about average. That, to me, is somewhat impressive by itself, especially considering Myers' long journey. It becomes quite spectacular when you put in the context of our shitfest. These guys are in a tough situation and they're handling it.
  19. Good call. That'll be a fine lesson for the kids.
  20. So, there's a tangible reason Myers is getting a lot attention to start the season. As pointed out by Die by the Blade, using data from War On Ice, Myers and Gorges are the best players on the team right now. They're playing the toughest competition and have the best Corsi numbers. Benoit and Meszaros are the worst- they're playing sheltered minutes and blowing at it. Granted that this is a small sample, but it's pretty clear who stinks and whose attracting the interest of other teams. One way to get other teams interested in a player in the modern NHL: get their advanced stats guys to get a big rubbery one for said player.
  21. http://www.tsn.ca/talent/button-matthews-the-clear-favourite-to-go-no-1-in-2016-draft-1.107932 Auston Matthews of Scottsdale, AZ expected to go #1 overall in 2016. He missed the age cutoff for 2015 by 48 hours. Considered to be of same quality by some as McDavid/Eichel.
  22. Nah, I think he mistakenly tried to order chinese food online.
  23. Maybe when Datsyuk gets healthy... Gustav Nyquist? Haters might say Detroit would never pay that price for "lowly" Myers, but that's the kind of price I could see Murray holding out for. Young guy (25), plays center or right wing, extremely well developed through Maine and Grand Rapids, an RFA at the end of the year, looks good on player usage charts, just had a 48 point in 57GP break out season.
