  1. I've been there as well, for a while. Reflexively, I had developed an aversion for the media-cultivated "brand," if you will, of the man and the family. I think that still lurks. But his talk last night was powerful.
  2. I've expressed my fair share of skepticism and fatigue over the #KellyStrong stuff and the local fan base's idolizing of Jim. After watching his speech from last night, where he accepted the Jimmy V award, I can kindly shut the fu*k up for a long while about that. Wonderful sentiments. Pure class. From a guy who's living right there -- on the precipice of the great unknown.
  3. Word. It's like: Dudes. We'll see you in the CL. Other than that, piss off.
  4. I thought I read about Real offering for Hazard (which, okay - he's a nice player - but you're better off with Mahrez). But what's this about the owner's assets being frozen?
  5. Gentles, gentles. Let's not bicker and argue amongst ourselves. Please. Focus your ire on the current creative incompetence of PSE.
  6. I dunno. There was an era in there somewhere -- the Warrener's corner stuff (movie reviews), some moody black and white day in the life video features (those came later, IIRC) -- where the content was good to very good. As much as it pains me to say it, I think Larry Quinn was ultimately in charge at the time.
  7. Sure. But the problem starts at the top, imo.
  8. Problem being, if the people doing the hiring and vision-setting lack ... vision, nuance, a unique sense of creativity, then the people working under them aren't apt to help.
  9. I'm gonna amend something: I had it in mind that there was essentially one social media editor with PSE. I looked at the Bills masthead. There's like 4 of 'em. Not sure who does what.
  10. Yeah. Although I think there's at least 2 people who screwed up here - I don't know that the social media person created the graphic itself (or maybe he did?). Anyway. I have it on good authority that there's another media/social media sports type in the WNY area who was among the final candidates for that social media position. And, I'm here to tell you, he is somehow demonstrably worse in tone/ideas/creativity than what PSE has now. That organization's creative vision needs an enema. Or maybe a (new) messiah.
  11. The thing that truly mystifies: There are multiple comments on the posting about the disconnect between the 716 day and the location of the photograph used. The post has now been up for more than a day. Do those jamokes not even read the feedback?
  12. BU guy, right? Surprised he didn't get a longer term. ?
  13. It's just a bad outfit, really. Being pedestrian and unimaginative is (are?) one thing -- but being fundamentally incompetent is taking things to a whole 'nother level.
  14. I know nothing of this player other than the fact that the Twitterverse is fired up because he does fun things on the ice and is apparently very funny off of it. Okay. I understand the love.
  15. Looking more closely. It’s probably the game that the Sabres played against the Penguins at Penn State. I see a Penguins player captured in the frame.
  16. No idea. Someone on Twitter suggested the Pegula arena at Penn State, which seems right.
  17. Just a reminder that the “creative” department of PSE is pretty bad. What an embarrassment this is.
  18. Holy sh1tballs, what a performance that was in the joint press conference. I'll say: I had never imagined a day would come when the POTUS would stand right next to Russia's leader and publicly repudiate the POTUS's own intelligence advisers in favour of representations made by Russia's leader.
  19. I think there's a better chance Mittlestadt does.
  20. It's funny. I saw a lot of posts on social media about how Emery was involved in one of the Sabres' greatest moments ever -- and what people meant by that was the infamous line brawl. Fair enough. But I will always first associate him with what I consider to be one of the truly greatest moments in the franchise's history -- that OT winner.
  21. I can't help but associate Emery (and Daniel Alfredsson) with one of the most incisive colour commentary moments that I've watched/heard: Lorentz breaking down Pominville's OT winner in 2006. Also, I'd not seen this one before today:
  22. The only way I understand the Fleury deal is if it was partially done for business reasons. It will be interesting to see what the home crowd is like when the team comes down to earth — which I think it will this season. I hope that they continue or flourish, even with middling success.
  23. Good on @Iron Crotch and @darksabre
