That Aud Smell

Sort of a weird take. My recollection: There was a combination of excitement and trepidation surrounding a guy who seemed to be taking a ZFG approach to a rapid rebuild. In a physical expression, I am thinking of eyes widened, eyebrows arched, teeth gritted, and a breath being taken in through those teeth.

Taking a contract, as in the league max? (Not money, right?) The guy had 40-something points in 60-something games in the A last season -- that's someone who will help Roch. Really well-put. JBOT reminds me of Beane in that his deals and moves seem focused on roster structure, value, and the like. They're well-informed by a business rationale. Of course, you have to evaluate talent effectively as well. But I think it's a good sign that the deals often seem "smart" -- maybe even shrewd.

Seems like a fair deal, for both teams. Nice that Fasching also garnered a top-6 AHL asset. Go, Roch!

That’s my recollection as well. They wound up “good” on turnovers at season’s end, but they were fairly torrid there in the first half. I also think this year’s D could be better than last year’s — turnovers aside, maybe.

Fair enough. But the bro (bro! BRO!) vibe is overwhelming to this middle-aged dude. It's true. And for reasons I can't articulate, I really don't want any blowback on or fallout from this -- it's been so pure. But I'm braced for it. Sometimes they do.

You can imagine the back story: They used to be pals, and then had a rift. And then Hoffman's GF just went full-on bonkers. p.s. Who the hell knows -- the stuff about pill popping could well have a basis in fact. Shoot -- they probably abused prescription painkillers together. But to create burner accounts to taunt the woman regarding a stillborn infant ... I cannot begin to understand how a person ends up in that spot.

The stuff alleged - if true - would indicate that Hoffman's girlfriend is ... an effin' sociopath. Cripes.

I glossed through the article, so I am asking: This reflects badly on Hoffman, how? Because his girlfriend is a terrible person? (And because he didn't 86 her?)

I am an idiot. Lesson: When the Wiki preview page on a Google page of search results (for a search re Noah Hanifin) prominently lists Noah Hanifin's siblings, but a similar search results page (for Jack Eichel) does NOT Jack Eichel's siblings, that does not mean Eichel doesn't have a sibling.

who's maniscalo? was hanifin the same draft year as eichel? also, and this is more than a mere throwaway comment, i just realized that eichel is an only child. i'm putting that one firmly in my back pocket for now, and hoping that we stop hearing about how the face of the franchise doesn't always play well with others.

That's my take as well. In his drunken stupor videos, Kane reminded me of every South Buffalo idiot I've ever had to deal with at a bar (and there've been a few over the years). Ovechkin has been recorded as being *hammered*, sure -- but his vibe is so much happier.
