  1. Unless you make the sport no-contact, you'll continue to have concussions. Even no-contact, there will still be accidental collisions. Any fast moving sport has a risk, and there's not getting around it. Nobody is forcing these guys to play. They choose to play, let them live the consequences. I have no sympathy for guys like Ennis or LaFontaine.
  2. The can't negotiate, but they can talk about "stuff".
  3. He's a local kid. Skated with him few times last summer. Trains with my friend Larry Barron.
  4. Wasn't very high on Yandle. He's poor defending in his end. Would rather have Fowler, who isn't great in his own end either, but he's a better skater, and thats something Buffalo is missing on the back end. And he's only 24, and has a friendly contract.
  5. Jarmo just said yesterday that he's not trading the 3rd pick. No way WPG doesn't take Laine. Have you all gone mad?
  6. How do they fill out their AHL club. And will that team also play in Vegas?
  7. Does anybody know if the "interview period" applies to Vesey? That's the week before July 1st where teams are free to talk to the pending UFAs, but not allowed to "negotiate". Or can no other team even contact him or his agent until 8/15?
  8. Vesey's center was Alex Kerfoot (NJD). Malone 3rd line C.
  9. That's good, I think? But what would these "talks" entail? He can only get max ELC, nothing more, and that's what they would offer, and spot in top 6 they already know that. Where else is there to discuss? Will he get to play with Eichel? Power Play time? etc? bonuses? There's not much left to discuss.
  10. MAX DEAL, bring him in, give him whatever he wants. Greatest UFA of all time, you don't hold anything back. Win a Cup in a few years, then worry about the cap implications.
  11. There is no rule preventing GMTM from asking Eichel about Vesey's intentions. If Eichel and Vesey are as tight as everybody says they are, there's is no chance the haven't had a long talk about playing together in Buffalo. All it takes is GMTM asking Eichel for his thoughts on the matter. GMTM can't talk to Vesey directly (well, now he can), but I can't imagine him trading a pick without at least consulting with Eichel about Vesey's intentions. Eichel probably told GMTM something like... "We really enjoy playing together and working out together. He likes what we're building in Buffalo." It makes sense in that case for Murray to spend a pick to get his offer on the table before any other team can change his mind. All this stuff about his agent saying he still intends to see this through to Aug 15th, is just what he's supposed to say. How would it sound if he came out and said, that he wanted to go to Buffalo all along and he'll sign July 1st... you can bet there would be some internal investigation into tampering. They need to play it coy, and they're doing just that.
  12. all day
  13. Correct. However, Lindholm is worth #8, and more. Fowler has a very cap friendly deal, Lindholm is an RFA and Vatanen just got his RFA deal. I don't see how the Ducks can keep both Lindholm and Vatanen. Lindholm would be worth 8, but would probably take little sugar on top to get it done. ANA has only 6 picks in this years draft, BUF could easily throw in a few extra picks to move the needle.
  14. Right? I should love this kid! I can't get over his entitlement attitude, like he's so much better than any other kid drafted out of college that he gets to choose where he wants to play. He should be thankful for the opportunity. He should've signed with NSH and got his feet wet in the playoffs, worked hard in the summer and training camp to earn a top 6 spot. It's not like Lindros where he was drafted 1st overall and balked at playing for a crumbling franchise. NSH is a legit Cup contender, one of, if not the best GM in the league.... So what does that say about Vesey's character? He does care about winning? Doesn't seem like it... buyer beware.
  15. This reminds me of the Justin Schultz drama with the Ducks back in 2012. He strung along the Ducks, only to sign with EDM once he became an UFA later in the summer. For the next few years the Honda Center would erupt with loud boos whenever Schultz touched the puck. IIRC he choose EDM because of the opportunity for playing time and a promising core of young star players. Didn't really work out that well for him.
  16. Huh? Why not? They have his rights, he's not a pending UFA come July 1.
  17. He's very well connected with college (cawlidge) hockey in the Northeast. But it sounds like he's saying this just because he knows of the Eichel connection, with the idea those elite kids from the Boston area like to stick together.
  18. Way way too much. Pass.
  19. Kim and Terry need to give him the full treatment. Air Pegula private jet to Boca Raton, sunset cruise on the SS Pegula with Captain Jack and friends. Flight back to Boston on a plane full of hookers, eight balls, whatever. Have one of the fine young ladies present the ELC to him when the plane lands.
  20. He's brings much needed stability and consistency to the current stable of Leaf net minders.
  21. Maybe if GMTM feels he can't get a deal done, he can trade his rights to another interested team. It should be a simple conversation. GMTM: "So, Jimmy, how about max entry-level deal and you get to play with Eichel and Reinhart?" Vesey either replies yes or no. If yes, done deal.... if no, trade his rights away to whoever you can get something from.... or package his rights in a deal for a guy like Lindholm or Fowler.... EVERYBODY wants to play in soCal.
  22. This isn't a slam dunk by any stretch. They just have his rights. Come Aug 15, Vesey and his camp should perform due diligence and choose what works best for them. Just because his rights now belong to BUF doesn't change any of that. It just means BUF can get a head start on the other clubs he may be entertaining. Does he do the Pegula wine and dine trip on his private jet/boat? Maybe. I also don't get all the hype around this kid. His goal production dropped off last season in his senior season, that's troubling. Also, he was a 3rd round pick. Maybe experts see him differently, but until I see him produce, I like Fasching and Bailey as better prospects moving forward.
