Sabres Signing Marcus Johansson 2 years 4.5 Million AAV
pi2000 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
His last name sounds too much like Josefson. -
In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is King.

Can you define adjusted plus minus? TRpm's... Reinhart +5 Eichel +4 Dahlin +3 Larsson +2 Girgensons -2 You mentioned shooting percentage... Do you know their high danger shooting%? I'm curious because, yes they work hard, but my eyes tell me they see quite a few high danger chances but rarely convert... missing the net entirely on a many shots in tight. I'd like to see what % of their attempts hit the net vs other 4th liners around the league.
-
Again, hockey is controlled chaos, you cannot simply focus on a single statistic (DZS%/points), unless it's TRpm ?, to quantify their worth to the team. There are thousands of unquantifiable plays during a game that only a trained eye can measure. We've seen the lack of awareness in all zones, lack of skill, making poor decisions with the puck, out of position, failure to execute a simple pass, missing wide open nets, etc... It's been a recurring theme for these two since day one, and frankly I've seen enough. These two combined for 10 goals last season. 10. That's simply not good enough. Their TRpms IIRC are around 0, which, on a bad team, means they're part of the problem.

They don't deserve roster spots just because they can get the puck out of our zone. That's setting the bar way way way too low. You need players who can play a 200ft game and chip in offensively. Girgensons and Larsson simply lack the skill required to be an effective contributor on an NHL roster. Package them together with picks or prospects or whatever and upgrade those bottom 6 positions.... It's not rocket science. Get creative, try something different for a change, there are still a lot of UFAs, and RFAs that might be available via trade. But to put those guys out there year after year after year and then complain that they contribute zero offensively and we're not scoring enough, is just stupid.

Good thing they keep hanging on to guys like Zemgus and Larry while launching the Kane's and O'Reilly's. There's a saying in Tennessee....
-
Tired of the "because Buffalo" mantra.... he needs another year of juniors anyway, this is nothing in the grand scheme of things.
-
Even if he can tolerate the pain, grip strength will be an issue... He's young tho, should recover quickly. Just would rather they go the cautious route, so it's not something that bothers him all season.

Better than Moulson make $5m in the A
-
Yes
-
There goes his trade value.
-
Agreed. Very amatuerish. It's stuff like this why the NHL is considered a second rate league.

I detect hats designed by Pegula's kids. What is happening
-
It's his top hand which is much worse. Probably 2 months minimum... hopefully he's recovered by training camp. Such an odd injury on that play.
-
No. Make then RFAs if they don't sign.
-
....because it's severely frowned upon in NHL circles. It's a slap in the face to the team that drafted you and invested resources in your development.... film study, private coaches, dev camps, diet experts, etc, etc. Maybe I'm old school, but IMO those kids are dis-respecting the process. If Vesey wanted to play for the NYR, then he can do that.... when he hits UFA status at 27. NSH tried to sign Vesey on several occasions before his senior year.. but he said he wanted to finish school and see if they could win a championship, and that he would sign immediately after (which was after the trade deadline btw). He lied.

Hainsey reached legendary TRpm status last season. You'll be surprised how much difference a decent coach can make.
-
Just curious kind sir, what is your definition of trolling?

That's completely different. The players don't run the league.... they don't get together form a team and then have a GM draft. Vesey's case was that of the tail wagging the dog. Vesey is actually the girl in this analogy. Nashville courted him for years, beginning years before the 2012 draft where they became engaged.... Nashville began paying for her clothes, make-up, cell phone bill, etc... supporting Mrs Vesey through thick and thin, building a strong relationship based friendship, trust and respect. Nashville was eager to tie the knot, but out of respect allowed her to finish her schooling after which she promised to settled down and start a family. After graduation, David Poile, on bended knee, finally proposed to little miss Jimmy, only to be violently rejected finding himself in a tangled web of lies and deceit.
-
I'll admit, that's a bit of a stretch..... but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the league was involved somehow.
-
It's not what he did, it's how he did it. Stringing NSH along.. lying to Poile that he was going to sign, which precluded NSH from trading him before the deadline, and then going back on his word.... just because he had a childhood dream to play for the NYR, and saw a way to do it even it meant disrespecting the process... the dream of playing the NHL, which NSH had given him by investing resources in his development, wasn't good enough for Jimmy boy. And I'll bet dollars to donuts that Vesey landing in BUF is the league's way of righting the ship, sending a message to be heard loud and clear. And what's Vesey going to do? Refuse the trade? He'd never play again.
-
top or bottom hand?
-
Bottom line is what Vesey did to NSH is considered a dick move by the vast majority of players and management. But I don't expect the average fan to understand that, so be it. He'll put on a Sabres jersey and everybody will cheer for him... good for him. But I guarantee there are players in that locker room whom will not forgive nor forget that he disrespected the league by acting like a spoiled child.

As a former player (who turned down an offer to play pro to finish school), I had many friends and teammates that went on to play pro hockey and a select few at the highest level. The NHL is not just a regular job. It's an exclusive club. You grow up dreaming just to get the chance to play 1 shift at that level. It's an absolute honor when a team shows interest and invests in you, using draft capital, investing developmental resources over many years; training, dev camps, time, money, video, personnel, etc... to help you develop as a player so you can realize your dream, all on their dime. What Vesey did to Nashville and David Poile was downright disgraceful. Vesey even told Poile that he was going to sign after the season. Poile made several trips to meet with Vesey face-to-face, but instead of signing with the team that took a chance on him and invested years of time/money/resources in his development, he lied just so he could make a selfish decision. Did the CBA give him that opportunity? Sure it did. He didn't break any rules. Did Murray make a smart move by trading a 3rd for his rights when they knew he wanted to become an UFA? Probably not, but he took a chance. However, what Vesey did to NSH was dishonorable and selfish, and speaks volumes about his character. He's the kind of guy who steals your girlfriend and feels no remorse about it, because hey... as long as he get what he wants, then that's all that matters.
