Official Don Granato Named New Sabres Head Coach

To see how much money was on the table and how much term and control. Everyone has a price. -
Jack Eichel: Trade rumors and speculation
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I think this in the division thing mattered more in the old days with solid rivalries and less roster turnover. These days players move around so much with free agency I don't think it matters at all. Also, presumably, if you make the trade you think you got the better of it so why be afraid? Not trading him into the division would be an admission from the get go that you got the stick end of the deal. -
An easy one to remember is 28 is 82 (within small decimal points) so you can usually guestimate from there without even doing much math.

If you have 2 offers that are close you choose the far away one. Otherwise shouldn't matter imo. -
Jack Eichel: Trade rumors and speculation
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Ya, that's not going to happen. The stories say we asked for the #1 pick last summer which was Lafreniere, and that was a big fat no so it ain't happening now either. -
Jack Eichel: Trade rumors and speculation
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
The latest rumours have the Rangers seriously kicking the tires again. Apparently they were seriously negotiating last summer so all those rumours might have been true. We wanted that #1 though and they wouldn't part with it. Wonder what the rest of the deal might have been? Eichel-Panarin = lethal. -
I'm missing my typical summer too. We usually get like high 20s (low 80s for the Americans) most summer days.

Dreger: Expects Sabres Head Coach will be hired next week
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
First on Bylsma remember he was only hired because Babcock played us for the Toronto gig. Babcock was Murray's guy. The vision of Murray's team in his mind was Babcock coaching McDavid with Kane as his power goal scoring winger, ROR as his second line shut down center and Lehner as an allstar goalie backstopping everything. In theory not that ridiculous a plan. Anyway, point is HIS plan was an experienced NHL coach on a long term plan. Since then we have gone the opposite way. Yes, they didn't want Dudley, and that is why I say they are stupid and in last place every year. As for Trotz, they didn't offer him a big new deal in Washington. That's why he left. So that's the same as letting him go. Everyone knew at the time Trotz was likely going to be let go if he failed in the playoffs. The (unfair) knock for some time had been great at getting to the playoffs but couldn't win it all in the playoffs. Washington wanted a cup no less. After they got it, they no longer cared and didn't want to pay him. -
Yup, we set records all over the province yesterday. I think there were like 60 towns or cities with new record highs. It's even hot way up north in Prince George. For you Americans, it was 95 inside my main floor by the thermostat. Hotter outside. There was a candle holder on the dining room table and the candle literally started to melt and fell over. I'm basically living in the basement where it's tolerable. The upstairs is a hellscape. Slightly cooler today. More normal super hot summer weather.

Official Don Granato Named New Sabres Head Coach
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Well I called this way back when the search started. Of course it was Granato, it was always going to be Granato, I truly believe the so called search was merely an exercise in optics. It was of course possible somebody might have wowed them so much they reconsidered but from the start they had penciled in Granato. Why? Easy, cheap, and you have a guy who won't say no and be bigger than the GM (or owner). I would have thought 2 years not 3. Three means he's here for 2 even if we suck bad. This hire is exactly the same as the previous ones. Perhaps we like to alternate between defense first and offense first guys now? Bylsma to Housley, Housley to Krueger, now Kreuger to Granato. I wonder what Granato will proclaim we will be, perhaps "fast" ??? I am underwhelmed but who knows. At least Steve Smith isn't here. But if they do not carve out a real identity for this team and stick to it, it is hopeless. -
Dude, the whole world is metric except for you guys down south. zero freezes, 100 boils and yet for some odd reason you lot think 32 and what is it if I remember 212 ? That makes more sense to you??? They probably will, it's 42 here in Abbotsford (the valley just inland from Vancouver for those that don't know) right now. Supposed to hit 44 or 45. Lytton and around there is always hotter and drier. Wildfires are starting . It's a hellscape. Never lived in this sort of temperature in all my 60 plus years. When I was a kid these were considered Death Valley temperatures. They grow a lot of berries here in the valley. They say the Raspberries (which should be right in season now) are literally baking on the plant and are all ruined. It's crazy.

Not sure why you're asking me about Dahlin. He mentioned the Kreuger neutering not me. I wasn't talking about Dahlin at all. But since you asked........ The Dahlin situation isn't about "neutering" him in any way it's about developing a talented young D man who has strengths and skills but also lacks in many areas. We should NEVER have thrust him into the ice time and huge roles we did so fast and so young. As a desperate team we once again rushed a young guy, didn't coach him enough, didn't bring him along slowly, we just screwed the pooch on the whole thing. As usual. Kreuger wasn't wrong in wanting Dahlin to work on his defensive skills, he just did it all wrong. I blame Steve Smith cause I don't think Kreuger actually "coached" anybody. Unleashing Dahlin isn't fixing him either. You want a long term dominant D man he still has a LOT of work to do on his defensive game. Dahlin was at his best early on paired with Bogo, who, for all his flaws, was the best veteran D man we had at the time. We needed a Chara to pair with him the way they paired Chara with McAvoy, and I think you saw how he has become a complete player. In general, the offensive skills are based more on talent, but the defensive skills have to be taught. We don't do that Dahlin will become a different version of Risto (less physical and more offensive, but still running round and making constant poor judgements and errors). We ruined Risto. He should have become a much better player but likely never will now. Dahlin will go the same way. Good, really good at times, but never great, and he should be great. -

Well in fairness, we're not much of anything. We're the worst team in hockey. Continuing on with the same core will yield the same results. You want to do that? If so, enjoy. You won't have to worry about arguing with me about new directions, I will be gone. -

idk about you but I'd rather have a NYI or Montreal run and lose in the end than marvel at Eichel's great abilities and not make the playoffs. Islanders were one lucky bounce away from eliminating Tampa, a team that really nobody should be able to beat with thier taxation cap advantages combined with their cap cheating. Nobody else gets to hold that much talent in one place. If the league doesn't address it, we will have to get used to many Tampa cups. We can't compete with that on any level ever. exactly. the team is BUILT WRONG. and this is our one opportunity to change that. Will we? I doubt it very much. The Krakhouse awaits. -

Well, we have a philosophical disagreement in terms of direction. Personally, I don't believe we can win any time soon without trying to follow this model. -

Oh please weren't not. Islanders got NOTHING for Tavares. We will get producers for those two guys. Or at least we should. -

PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
You're looking at half my argument and trying to spin it for your narrative. Nowhere am I suggesting the current level of production is adequate. I expect more production from Cozens, Mitts, etc etc whoever is on this roster and the new guys be they Rossi or Zegras or Dach or whoever. I'm suggesting a new team approach is the answer and it's time for the failed less than dynamic duo to no longer be the focus of this franchise. Every year there's examples of teams without star power (or less star power) going further in the playoffs than expected and star power teams with early exits. Idk how many times we need to have this argument, I guess every season until we start winning. We are clearly oil and water. -

PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Okay, but it's NOT a math problem. But to counter on your terms for the heck of it, the math does work. The Islanders lost 84 scoring points off their roster and then went on to gain 23 points in the standings. the math works. so yes, I am gutting the team, that is what I am suggesting. I'm tired of losing, and I will take so called boring hockey if it gets us to game 7 conference finals and maybe even the cup. -

I don't think anybody here would disagree that Trotz is one of the best coaches in the NHL, perhaps all time, and he makes teams over achieve regularly. The point would be we didn't try to hire him when Washington let him go, just like we never tried to hire Quenneville. We hire rookies and unknowns. It's just dumb. -
Who has more trade value: Jack or Sam?
PerreaultForever replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Absolutely. My hope (of the quiet) is that they are letting other teams see medical reports or examine him etc. behind the scenes. But it's all speculation and we will wait for the spin on whatever it is that happens or doesn't. -

PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
But we don't, because it comes from other places and the people you bring in. It just isn't concentrated on 2 or 3 guys necessarily but maybe spread through the team. Often, 2 25 goal scorers will take a team further than 1 50 goal scorer to simplify the argument. Also if you bring in great defenders/checkers/goalies maybe you win 2-1 instead of losing 5-4. Less points, more wins. -

But Gallant has gotten it done. Vegas, despite their expansion draft trades etc. was still not supposed to be anything right away. remember all the consternation and complaints around here when Vegas had more points and was winning more than us early in the season? We were worse than an expansion team and it wasn't sitting well. Gallant seems to rub owners the wrong way, but he does get it done, and you watch, he will get it done in New York too. For Dudley, I was comparing him to the Lamorello part. A top dog of some kind. A big boss to shape the franchise in his image. he has Sabres history, which places him above other similar czar types for this franchise imo. The point is hire experienced hockey men rather then rookies learning on the job (and making mistakes in growing pains). -

But not necessarily many points. 1-0 is fine by me if it's our 1. If you're suggesting we would have won with this team and good goaltending we disagree. It's not enough. Our D would have exposed many goalies. If you're suggesting it's a team sport and you need solid play everywhere I agree. -

PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I don't think you have to apologize for being hard on Adams, you're absolutely right. SO FAR he has done nothing right or simply nothing. I don't agree with the 130 points argument though. It's about winning games not guys with points. We didn't win with them. We didn't win with Skinner adding over 40 goals to them. Scoring stats don't matter when you're losing all the time. We need a different approach. I will say this, and it won't be popular, but as skilled as Eichel is, he has been consistently shut down by solid 2 ways players like Bergeron when they went head to head in games that mattered to our opponents. We rarely even saw first string goalies and top efforts from opponents cause they didn't need them. The young loose team at the end of this season has a long way to go but it performed better and with more effort overall. I firmly believe if we get a pick and 2 top prospects that work out, maybe a little more, we will win this trade and that GM will indeed be fired in a few years. -

Oh I know. Why I was advocating for Dudley and Gallant and so on. It's possible our guy is a good hire but it's definitely no sure thing.
