  1. You point out the reasons various statistics are not telling of what happened, but then go on to ignore that and hold those statistics against them? Not sure how their OT could’ve been better other than scoring. The goalie getting a save means a potential lost possession. They tried picking corners and were less than an inch from scoring multiple times.
  2. https://apnews.com/325f23d5acc649b48c047b75a79e0e0c NCAA appears to cave into the argument to let players profit in some undetermined way off of their likeness. Along with this change, do we expect any changes to how draft picks are handled in the NHL? Does this change how many grade A prospects will choose the NCAA route?
  3. Dahlin catching a pass thrown at his hip with the blade of his stick choked down on, dropping the puck to the ice, without a step lost on a rush out of the zone creating a 3 on 1 is an ELITE TALENT. You don't go to a player like that and tell him to play conservative at all costs because sometimes it doesn't work. That's only what you teach guys who can't dazzle and make plays. Dahlin may have some stinker moments, but when a team is averaging 3 goals per game, and the player in sheltered minutes is averaging a PPG, you take those trades. Jokiharju plays things safe and is rarely on the rush. Of course he's going to look out of place less. The size/muscle gap from age 19 to 20 is also pretty large. Give it a break.
  4. Their schedule hasn't been too crazy. Most of the season is like this. They will get a lot of time off before the Sweden trip and after it. The week I'm worried about is Thanksgiving---there's games in Florida Sun/Mon, home game Wednesday, Thanksgiving Thursday, then a back-to-back Fri/Sat both against Toronto. Toronto only plays the Red Wings that week. Everyone wants them to play Toronto well, but they're going to be in an awful situation to do so.
  5. It's a BS interpretation and was a bad call. Especially as it was the guy at center ice who called it, not the ref right in front of the incident. And that same ref refused to call the blatant hooks and grabs on his own side of the ice. Bad reffing, even if Marty thinks Hutton deserves to be penalized for his sweeps more, it's an 'interpretation' of the rules that ignores the wording of the rule itself. It was clear from the eye test that Buffalo's chances were great, and had way too many open net wide shots and posts stopping them from running away with the game.
  6. I literally quoted the rulebook explaining simultaneous contact is not tripping. I don't care who the hell you are, that's the rulebook.
  7. Only player I disliked last night was Rodrigues. I wouldn't even re-sign him as depth he's been playing so bad, and last year I thought he was one of our best. Yes, Mittelstadt loses the puck when contested a lot, and Sheary isn't exactly a puck retrieving forward, but that line is missing its big body presence and it shows. I don't get how people are down on Dahlin after this game? Some of the things he did this game you don't see from any other player in the league. Yes, he gets worked in the d-zone sometimes, but he's only 19 and it's just a size thing. Give him a break.
  8. Wrong. Finally got NHL RuleBook to load: Rule 57: Accidental trips which occur simultaneously with a completed play will not be penalized. Accidental trips occurring simultaneously with or after a stoppage of play will not be penalized.
  9. D prospect. Wild card for wild card
  10. Good game. Sabre’s seem to be down a notch from the first few gams but still playing well. If they would hit the net and not the post on just one of those fifteen great chances this game is different. Didn’t think Arizona really had anything dangerous tonight. One low percentage goal snuck by Hutton and an unlucky bounce on a penalty that shouldn’t have been one.
  11. I can’t get the NHL rules to load for me, but I thought they had a similar clause saying simultaneous contact exempts the penalty. Can someone else get the NHL website to work for them?
  12. USA Hockey: Note) However, no penalty shall be assessed under this rule if, in the opinion of the Referee, the player was clearly hook-checking or poke-checking the puck for the purpose of gaining possession.
  13. Detroit’s offense is ass right now and needs the help. Perlini has a lot of potential, just hasn’t put it together yet. He at least gives them speed, which seems to be the theme Detroit is moving towards with AA et al. Seems like a good hockey trade to me.
  14. Red Wings get more speed. Detroit fills their d depth back in. Good trade.
  15. Defense letting up some big plays which is not characteristic, but the offense is doing above average than their norm. Score is due to that turnover.
  16. 2nd line RW power forward to replace Sobotka. That’s what this team needs most.
  17. Gilmour is showing how much less our current defense are jumping into the rush since the early games. His speed is refreshing. Not sure how this team would survive without Risto. Too many weak defenders. I don’t mind the breakout much. It’s the forecheck and perimeter play on offense that’s creeping back. The forwards can do better
  18. Holy hot takes some of you need to calm down. It's as if you guys don't remember being completely suffocated game after game last few seasons. They controlled play for most of the game last night, but got torn apart for the handful of mismatched shifts where Panarin lit up the 2nd line+Dahlin/Miller. Hutton never had a chance on the goals against, and made at least two highlight reel saves. The team had plenty of shots, controlled the play, broke into the zone repeatedly with no issues, recovered dumps at an average rate. They weren't in the right place to take advantage of any of the rebounds and got out lucked in the end. If you think they got dominated I hesitate to believe you only watched the highlights. When Vesey and Scandella went out, the team was double shifting on both ends, got tired, made mistakes. Running the short bench hurt them.
  19. Whatever. They outplayed the Rangers for most of the game. Bounces weren’t going their way. They were being a little too cute and the rebounds were there but not the clean up. They had a couple of bad shifts and got penalized on each one. I didn’t see anything other than a few breakdowns being punished where the Rangers were getting lucky to not be bleeding goals. 82 game season go next.
  20. Skinner has always been a weird winger on the breakout. And Sobotka has always sucked at the breakout. I don’t care if he’s the defensive guy, he sucks at breaking it out. If Johansson is overmatched then that line falls apart. And Panarin is a star, you can’t just blame Johansson
  21. They are stats that barely correlate with anything predictive.
  22. Combination of the Panarin line versus Sobotka and Dahlin+Miller has led to the goals. That’s a weak link.
