  1. They’re taking the Ducks for granted right now. Going to lose unless they wake up
  2. Dahlin challenged the play, leaving the guy to get open, but also forcing him offside. Lucked out there some but it was the design of the system.
  3. This ducks team reminds me of Hasek Buffalo. It’s all about the goalie and collapsing on every rebound.
  4. Cozens slides in at 2C in two years when Johansson is done. Mittelstadt stays at 3C, maybe spends a year transitioning Cozens. Asplund takes 4C. Barring major injury, we don’t need to go out of our way to fill in centers. Need a RW or two and just draft BPA and actually hit with them for once.
  5. Krueger seems to try to match the Eichel line with Scandella+Jokiharju, who the latter has a mean breakout pass, but Scandella has taken the role of facing top opposition and he hasn't disappointed.
  6. Botterill has always referred to Vesey as a 'top-9' player.
  7. I don't see a single trade with AZ that makes any sense.
  8. I've only worried about his forechecking, not his finishing on 5v5. The Eichel line as a unit has been outclassed by opposing top lines for most nights, and they can never sustain offense as the cycle breaks down quickly. Eichel has always been a weird player to cycle with though, give it time.
  9. Give him decent wingers for once and his luck might change. He's been dealt with bad cards in college and in pro.
  10. After the game tonight -- Ristolainen and Rodrigues for Kase, Sprong (AHL), and 2020 1st (top 10 protected) Ducks need RD, and can take on cap. Rodrigues isn't gelling under Krueger, but softens the blow for Anaheim. Kase makes our team better, or he's hurt and we lose the gamble that brought his value down to begin with. Sprong is Botterill's choice of prospects to keep ANA under 50 contracts. Protected 1st is the value the market of multiple teams needing a RD lends us to, and Rodrigues is the adder that makes it sit well for ANA. 2.6AAV in, 7.4AAV out, nets 4.8, which brings us back to cap savings territory for the rest of the season.
  11. Hasn't been a game where all three players on this line have gelled. They haven't been much of a liability outside of Vesey dogging it. Give them time. I do think Thompson is a major upgrade for this line. Sheary/Vesey can duke it out on LW. Rodrigues finds his way out on a trade.
  12. I wish the run-of-the-mill stuff got cheaper and more focus was put on personalization/customization. Knowing these companies, they'll just jack up the price on both though.
  13. Both UFA at season's end. Making 1.55/1.6 currently. Their agents likely tell them to wait to UFA and test the market. Can Botterill sign them now? Should Boterrill sign them now? For how much? For how long? And god forbid, if we had to choose, which one is the right choice?! Larsson is 27, the typical player's peak age. Girgensons is 25. What happens with these two is probably what makes/breaks our cap structure for the new few years. Reinhart will probably get around 7. Mittelstadt will get a cheap bridge. Ullmark/Montour need raises. Okposo's contract is still to be dealt with. Asplund can come up to take maybe one of their roles, but other than that we don't really have anything in our system to replace these two in the future. Many teams have gotten into binds by overpaying bottom-6 players too much. But these two make a duo that really stands out in the league. Do we fall for the same trap?
  14. We have this last season of cap hell left before the light comes. There is no cap banking going on with the LTIR and we will not be able to acquire a high cap rental at the deadline this year. Please, set your expectations lower now. A pick for a rental winger isn't possible. If the trade is not cap neutral, it won't happen. You can simply argue that Botterill saw the analytics behind the last two seasons and knew there was no reason to make a move that didn't heavily favor long-term implications. And I would've agreed with that. No one winger was salvaging last season. Montour, which he did acquire, barely made a dent. Five straight years of 2nd rounders for useless rentals, and misses on 1st rounders, is what got us into this mess in the first place. Let's not hastily run back there.
  15. I wish Mittelstadt's line got more minutes in games like Dallas where it was locked-up by the 2nd. It's a long season, and those guys need more game pace reps.
  16. I used to wake-up looking forward to line changes. The disco jazz brought upon endless possibilities that never came to fruition, but at least gave a daily dose of hope. That joy in my life is now gone. Krueger, you have taken my winter joy away from me. What do?
  17. I remember when Skinner was 'terrible' for the power play. Now he just rarely sees the puck, but does great. My favorite part of the power play is that the GLO line is not involved in either group, so we always have a strong line to follow-up a failed power play. They let down too often last season after power plays, but no more!
