We're having a Super Bowl lunch and blowing off the afternoon at work. I'm in charge of coordinating and communication. I sent out an email inviting people to wear their favorite NFL jersey. But I included the disclaimer: if you show up in Patriots gear, I will personally hold it against you forever. This email even went to our CEO. Yeah, I hate the Pats :P

NHL.tv plays highlights during commercial breaks in lieu of the actually commercials. For the last four months they have repeated the same 4 or 5 highlights over, and over, and over. Honestly it drives me bonkers. But over the ASB, they finally updated their highlights. And now Eichel's OT snipe is one of them. RJ's call included. I could get used to seeing that over and over. Awesome.

Indeed.. 128/324 didn't vote for LeBron. Meanwhile 154/324 didn't vote for Durant. I don't know if NHL guys would be so petty. Probably but perhaps not quite to that extent (NBA is more star-focused, hence the disdain for stars that make controversial moves like those above). On the surface, I like players having a role. But the NBA's attempt really flopped.

Woke up in the middle of the night to hear a strange clicking noise coming from my nightstand. It almost sounding like an electric current pop-pop-popping. First thought- it was the wiring on my pretty old lamp. So I unplugged the lamp completely, but the noise continued. Next I moved onto the power strip that plugs in right behind my nightstand. Maybe it was that? Unplugged that bad boy, and nothing. So I look back at the nightstand. What the hell could it be? Air escaping from the bottle of lotion? Nope. I'm truly stumped, so I just start picking everything up when I realize it's coming from the little remote that controls my fan. Take off the battery cover, and one of the AAAs is popping. Now keep in mind it's the middle of the night, I'm hopping around on one foot because I'm still NWB after my surgery, and I'm trying to not wake the fiancée. So my instinct was to pop that battery out immediately, upon which I found my hand covered in battery acid. Somehow it has gotten corroded and began leaking, and also letting out air. I'm thinking the noise was air bubbles releasing as the reaction still went on within the battery. It was relatively new, so still lots of juice left. Interesting 10 minutes of my night.

I was waiting all third period for Jack to get that 10th shot on goal. Something about double digit SOG is really cool. Huge bonus that it came on an EN goal. Putting 10 shots on net and still walking away with a nifty 20% shooting percentage. Not bad!!!

DLo was taking face offs at the end of that preview video.. I cringed. I hope COR is up to center the 4th line. If it isn't Zemgus, then he's my pick. Get DLo to the press box.

Afternoon game on MLK Day got me thinking about black NHL players across the league. Did a little research (aka went to wikipedia and copied some things to a spreadsheet) to discover the following: -25 black players have made an appearance with an NHL club this year. -For those that have the day off, you don't deserve to do any math.. Let me do it for you! That's less than 1 per team (0.83 to be precise). -11 teams haven't had a black player appear in a game this year -Despite the league trend, Sabres have had four (Okposo, Kane, Bailey, Baptiste). That's about 5 times the league average. Nothing profound, but interesting nonetheless. As football participation declines, I hope we see more and more young black athletes lace up the skates. It would be great for the game. And it would be particularly good for the US in terms of closing the gap on Canada. Here's a full breakdown if you're curious:

Creating a wedding registry.. Running around a store scanning things left and right, then coming home and filling in the gaps on Amazon = way more fun than I thought it would be. Other than towels. Every single towel feels like... a towel. Eventually I got the fiancée to settle on Ellen Degeneres' new line of towels just because she loves Ellen. This only proved my point that towels in the same general price range are indistinguishable. But I digress...

Vas is in a funk recently though.. 5-5-4-6 goals allowed over his last 4 games. And Bishop could conceivably come back pretty rusty. Earlier in the year, I'd agree that they have two #1s, pick your poison, it's gonna be tough. But the timing is right for this game and I'm actually optimistic no matter which goalie we get.

Oh nothing happened to Pearl Street. I just moved away from Buffalo. It used to be my go-to spot before games. Especially when there was free parking on Commercial and Perry, I'd park down there and swing through Pearl for some appetizers and a couple beers before each game I attended. Their beer wasn't the best around Buffalo, but there were a couple I enjoyed and were worth ordering each time. Beers were priced cheaply too. And I never had a meal I didn't like there. Very much enjoyed their food! Pizza, wings, steak bomber, nachos. I think their burgers are underwhelming, but the rest always hit the nail on the head for some pregame food. And the setting is very cool. The pulley-system fans, two stories with balconies in the summer, all the hanging baskets. Hell, even the 5 foot tall urinals are neat haha. Just a neat place with a lot of memories for me. I never ate in the arena other than peanuts because of that place :)

Is "Eat at Pearl Street before the game" an acceptable answer? Damn do I miss that place.
