RK hands down the worst coach in Sabres history
jsb replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Is RK the worst coach in history, I'll let you argue that but is there any question he is the worst talent evaluator in the history of the NHL, I don't think so. It isn't just the ATM line it's also Dahlin, Joker and Bryson. Those 3 in particular were so badly mishandled by this guy it's the most incompetent thing ever. It was as if he just stifled any creativity out of all these young guys. If anything is a light at the end of the tunnel for this team it's Dahlin's game. Nothing short of wow moments lately from this guy. When the WOW moments outnumber the mistakes, you just let this kid play. -
There's no vowels in that name so he must be from a Slavic nation
-
We seen glimpses of their talent before but it seems like every aspect of their game has improved lately. It's not just them scoring points but the back checking and forechecking and board work has dramatically improved and for now their decision making and letting things develop and not trying to force everything gives hope. With Jack hopefully still on board and Cozens development it seems to me this has the making of a very good 3rd line which this team hasn't seen in almost 15 years. Watching a much faster team and the development of these still young guys has made watching this team bearable again and I find myself enjoying the games again whether this point streak continues or eventually ends. The play during Ralph's tenure and especially the end of it hopefully doesn't return anytime soon.

VS The resurgent Buffalo Sabres will try for their 5th straight game with a point against the NJ Devils tonight with Linus Ullmark in goal. This will be the 7th game with these 2 teams and it will be interesting if anyone who is presently healthy on the Sabres squad is a healthy scratch with the trade deadline looming in less than a week away. The Devils won the previous meeting between the 2 teams 3-2. The collapse of the Sabres season started with a previous game with the Devils playing with a rumored Covid position player spreading it to several players on both teams. The league still hasn't acknowledged that this occurred. Taylor Hall has 5 points this season in 6 games against his former team but has Arttu Ruotsalainen joined the team to take his place with a soon to be completed trade this week?? Will GMKA try and receive some prospects or players in the trades or will he settle for low round draft picks?? The team has for some reason been playing with some passion these past few games, is it all RK's fault, is Granato the prospect whisperer, is it just a coincidence that Dahlin, Jokerman, Bryson, Mitts, the Giraffe, Okposo, Skinner are all playing better since RK's firing?? Will Reinhart get traded, will he stay at Center, will he move back to Wing, Everybody Knows (or seems to). THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Buffalo has a 38.9 power-play percentage against the Devils, its best against any opponent this season. The Sabres have scored at least one power-play goal in five of their six games against the Devils this season. Is there a possibility they can score 1 tonight?? Their seven power-play goals against New Jersey are the most against any opponent this season. Sam Reinhart’s ten road goals this season are tied for the most in the NHL. Kyle Okposo has seven points (2+5) in his last seven games. Rasmus Dahlin has 10 points in his career against NJ, the most against any opponent Kyle Okposo has 7 points in his last 7 games, he outraced a defender, is he back, can they trade him while the iron is hot LETS GO BUFFALO

Most of us out of towners just assumed with the recent legalization that we had some confused posters celebrating on here. I guess it all depends who the center spine is going to be, Jack-Cozens-Mitts........... Jack- Reinhart- Cozens?? Jack- Reinhart- Mitts?? Depends on what the new coach has in mind and who they get rid of this trade deadline season. The next week should be interesting, I just hope they make some good decisions for a change.

GDT: 4/3/21 Rangers @ Sabres. 7:00 pm est. MSG, WGR550
jsb replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Sabres on a 3 game point streak, the date is 4-3-21 and after today's game it'll be 4.3.2.1 games remaining before the trade deadline. Who'll not be on this team next week?? Will Samson find a home at center, will Casey and Tage continue their rise as NHL players, is Ullmark making a case to not only remain a Sabre but claim the #1 spot for next year?? Have we finally seen the end of rock bottom caused by the tank?? Can they regain some dignity in this season by putting together a point streak by playing the NYR-NJD-NJD-NJD and PF in the next 5 games?? Did Okposo make a deal with the devil to get his point production up as of late, will Pegula pay a % of the remaining contracts of the players to be traded to up the ante and not get ROR'd again?? Was it Claude's good fortune as the GDT starter cause this uptick in points of late and will the LGR4GM jinx this up?? Lots of questions boys & girls, lots of questions. On this date in 1982 Gil P. scores is 1000th point to become at the time the 16th NHL player to do so. Those were the days my friend and we thought they'd never end. LETS GO BUFFALO -
Maybe not IN Seattle but the surrounding area, no doubt. You can do better than that, Skinner-Jack-??......... Olofsson-Cozens-Samson..... Fogarty-Mitts-Tage........ Rieder-Lazar-Okposo/Sheehan Skinner needs Jack more than Jack needs anyone, Cozens continues to grow and Samson gives him a vet to play with, 3rd line hopefully continues to grow together and the speed of Rieder and Lazar helps Okposo be the trailer because he won't be the front man of that group. Must get a GK.

Is there a possibility that this season has been ordained as the turning point of the franchise?? Yes it has been the most disappointing season from what my expectations were but..... Sabres have fired Ralphie and this interim coach actually has a clue and hopefully they don't blow this chance to get this hire right The young guys are actually starting to look like NHLrs (Mitts starting to look like the guy we drafted, The Giraffe starting to look good, Cozens isn't a bust, Borgen showed promise, Bryson looking good, Dahlin and the Jokerman looking much better as of late as a pairing. We should be getting another decent player in the draft and hopefully Quinn isn't a bust and JJ Peterka is the real deal This abomination of a season seems to have finally convinced ownership to hire some experience people in the front office Reinhart at the C position, have we had our 2C here all along?? Hall and Montour might actually fetch something positive now?? One win and Here Comes the Sun again

Claude's on a roll, Sabres have risen early LETS GO BUFFALO -
His cap hit is 4.5M but his salary the next 2 years is 3.25M, not that I necessarily want him but he does play the left side, not one of our strengths. Would a change of scenery help him out?

Although I think these moves are overdue and should bring results quicker to be fair the team was at least competitive until the New Jersey Covid outbreak and the injuries piled up and then the organizations lack of depth really decimated the team. If this rumor is true it is 10 years in the making and hopefully will move the team in the correct direction. I like Granato, so I hope he continues with the team in some capacity.

jsb replied to Doohickie's topic in The Aud Club
Dang you’re up late today Mr. Doo MUSTY WIND -
I agree with you on this, I don't understand why RK is still on board and it's way past time that this team has or should have any playoff chance this year, if you're going to lose anyway, play the young guys and see what they bring to the table and let them play their game and not some system that doesn't work. If they have one bad game, don't sit them for a month in retribution if you're not going to do it to your vets as well

GDT: 3/7/21 Sabres @ Islanders 11:00 am CT (Noon ET) NBC
jsb replied to Doohickie's topic in The Aud Club
So do they upgrade someone to interim HC or do they hire someone outside the organization?? I'm guessing interim and see who's out there later -
VS What has become of this franchise that the most exciting part of the last game was a fight by a rookie winger?? Even broadcasters from other teams are participating in the barrage of embarrassing comments about the play of this team such as the one below. The team has now lost 8 of their last 10 games and no one realistically that have been in the top 6 forwards appear to have clue to revive what appears on paper a scoring machine. How does HCRK keep his job when it is obvious as can be he's lost the team. None of the veteran leaders appears to be able to inspire better play. Will we really need to trade some of our best players to move forward again and do we trust the leadership of this franchise to make good decisions if they do go that route?? Now the special teams still seem to be doing well by league standings, they are 3rd in PP% and 13th in PK%. As much as some put the blame on the defense and GK the horrendous turnovers will do that, they are 13th in the league in goals against per game but even with the 3rd ranked PP, they rank 28th with 2.2 GPG overall. It has become so bad that Okposo with 1 point for the season was moved on the 2nd line. Will the Sabres finally break out of their lethargy and bring some excitement to the arena, will the after effects of the Cozens fight spark this team or will the only thing we'll have to look forward to is a TKO for Boxing Day SABRES at ISLANDERS This is the fourth of eight meetings between the Sabres and Islanders this season. Last meeting: New York defeated Buffalo 3-2 in New York on Feb. 22, 2021. Next meeting: Saturday, March 6 in New York The Sabres are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games vs. the Islanders; 2-6-2 on the road. THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY The Sabres are 10-9-3 all-time on March 4. March 4, 1972: The Sabres acquire Rene Robert in a trade that completes the French Connection. March 4, 1983: Mal Davis tallies four points and 15 Buffalo players appear on the score sheet in a 10-2 win vs. Pittsburgh. March 4, 2009: Thomas Vanek plays in his 300th career NHL game, a 5-1 win vs. Montreal. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Buffalo’s penalty kill is 19-for-22 (86.4%) in the team’s last 12 games against the Islanders. The Sabres have killed off eight consecutive penalties and have not surrendered a power-play goal in three straight games. If the team remains perfect on the penalty kill today, it will make the second time this season and first since Jan. 15 to Jan. 22 that Buffalo played four consecutive games without allowing a power-play goal. Tonight’s matchup marks the first time the Sabres will play a team three straight times in the same regular season in franchise history. Buffalo has previously played the same opponent in three straight regular-season games on four occasions by wrapping up one season and beginning the next against the same team: Montreal (1987-88 and 1988-89), Quebec (1981-82 and 1982-83; 1991-92 and 1992-93) and Washington (2019-20 and 2020-21). The Sabres have previously played the same team three times in a 10-day period just 15 times in franchise history. Before doing so against New Jersey in February, Buffalo had never played the same team three times in a seven-day span. LETS GO BUFFALO!!!

Is the reason he isn't fired already is because they can't find anyone outside the organization to take the job?? Inquiring mind wants to know.

VS. In the final game of a back to back and 5th game in 7 days the Flyers take on the Sabres this afternoon in Buffalo. After yesterdays game in which the Sabres were not only out coached but it wasn't even close. Yes those are toy sabres in the logo section because until this team puts on their big boy pants they don't deserve to carry a real sabre. Please spare us the Elliott in goal for the Flyers because the Sabres seem intent in getting this guy into the HOF for some reason. I can't remember a game where they figured this average at best GK out. I can't imagine the Pegulas wanting to fire HCRK during the season but unless there's a major turnaround for the team in the last 2/3rds of the season, I can't see him around next year. As for Jeff Skinner if that wasn't the worst case scenario for this player in yesterday's game, I don't know what it could have been. He gets sat for 3 games and instead or coming out with his pants on fire, he basically showed all why he was sat in the first place. A terrible performance and if you're making 9M a year, with the incentive to get your reputation back after an embarrassing situation, you can't blame anybody but yourself for not driving play. If you're going to change the culture of this team you have to rid yourself of this guy and most likely the coach as well. This GDT is turning into a rant but the Sabres someway and somehow have to rid themselves of losing and Break The Habit In some bright spots yesterday, Hutton didn't play badly yesterday, his team failed him more that he failed them, it was nice to get Risto back but you could tell he was struggling especially in the 3rd period, Casey M. in my opinion earned a spot on the team over the past 4 games and with the season virtually over already, you need to play him and some of the other young guys to see what they have to offer. Bryson made some rookie errors but he looks like a keeper if he continues his development. FLYERS at SABRES This is the fourth of eight meetings between the Sabres and Flyers this season. Last meeting: Philadelphia defeated Buffalo 3-0 in Buffalo on Feb. 27 Next meeting: Tuesday, March 9 in Philadelphia The Sabres are 3-7-0 in their last 10 games vs. the Flyers; 4-6-0 at home. This is the 185th game all-time between Buffalo and Philadelphia; Buffalo has a 70-90-24 series record. The Sabres are 44-35-10 at home against the Flyers all-time. THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY The Sabres are 10-6-3 all-time on February 28. February 28, 1971: Steve Atkinson scores three goals against the Minnesota North Stars in a 5-2 win at the Aud. Atkinson, Ron Anderson and Gilbert Perreault all score in a span of 1:15 in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and earn the win. February 28, 2000: The Sabres score four goals on their first 19 shots, including two from Stu Barnes, on the way to a 5-2 victory at Florida. GOOD DAY FOR A MATINEE Today’s game is the sixth of 14 afternoon games for the Sabres this season. They are 3-2-0 in the first five. Buffalo went 7-2-2 in afternoon games during the 2019-20 season, including a 6-2-0 record at home and a 1-0-2 mark on the road. BACK-TO-BACK Today’s game wraps up Buffalo’s sixth of 12 sets of back-to-back games this season, which began with a 3-0 loss yesterday vs. Philadelphia. The Sabres are 2-4-0 in the first game of back-to-back sets and 1-4-0 in the second game so far this season. Buffalo’s goal breakdown in previous back-to-back sets is: four goals(0), three goals (0), two goals (3), one goal (0) and zero goals (2). That goal per game totals sure doesn't bode well for this afternoons tilt. NHL News: Connor McDavid leads the league with 40 points with his teammate Draisaitl is 2nd with 34. Auston Matthews leads the league in goals scored with 18 while McDavid is 2nd with 14. Patrick Kane failed to score a goal yesterday versus the Red Wings and holds at 399 for his career. Quinn Hughes leads all Dmen in scoring with 21 points with Hedman and Carlson tied for 2nd with 19. Tampa Bay leads the league in goal differential with a +30 while Toronto is 2nd with +23 and surprisingly the Jets are 3rd with a +16, the leader in the Eastern Division is Boston with a +6 followed by the Islanders with a +5 LETS GO Some information was gathered from this site: https://sabresdigitalpressbox.com

VS. The Sabres play the Flyers in the 1st game of an afternoon weekend bonanza. Questions abound for this team even more than usual. Will Jack E. play, will Hutton make a save, when will Risto return, will HCRK last the year, will the injury bug continue to infect this team?? Who'll sit if Rieder and Skinner return to the lineup and after their recent play does Casey and Asplund deserve to sit?? Then there is the bigger question, will the modern version of the Hatfield and McCoy feud continue or will Jeff Skinner play today?? Which Skinner will show up if he does play and who will he play with. Will it be the Skinner who scored 40 a couple of years ago, the one who had on and off years with his goal scoring or the one we've watched lately that couldn't toss a coin in the water on an ocean liner?? Who Are You Jeff Skinner?? FLYERS at SABRES This is the third of eight meetings between the Sabres and Flyers this season. Last meeting: Philadelphia defeated Buffalo 3-0 in Philadelphia on Jan. 19 Next meeting: Sunday, Feb. 28 in Buffalo The Sabres are 3-7-0 in their last 10 games vs. the Flyers; 5-5-0 at home. This is the 184th game all-time between Buffalo and Philadelphia; Buffalo has a 70-89-24 series record. The Sabres are 44-35-10 at home against the Flyers all-time. THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY The Sabres are 7-9-3 all-time on February 27. February 27, 1975: The Sabres get goals from five different players and Roger Crozier stops all 21 Los Angeles shots as Buffalo tops the Kings 5-0 at home. February 27, 2008: Steve Bernier records three points (2+1) in his Sabres debut and Toni Lydman records a career-high four points (0+4) as the Sabres defeat the Nashville Predators 8-4 at home. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Curtis Lazar is expected to play in his 300th NHL game today. The road team has won just 60 of the 183 regular-season matchups between the Sabres and Flyers, including just two of the last 10. Neither team has won consecutive road games in the series since the Sabres won in Philadelphia on Feb. 19 and Oct. 27, 2015. The Sabres’ special teams are plus-9 this season, with 19 goals for and 10 goals against. Entering play Friday, they were tied with Colorado for the best differential in the league. If there is a bright spot for the Sabres it's without a doubt it has been the Power Play with 10 different players scoring for the league leading PP with a just under 37% scoring rate. The 10 player list also leads the league tied with the Chicago Blackhawks. There's little question the Sabres have been a machine on the PP. LETS GO BUFFALO
