  1. If they are going to pass on Lafreniere, they probably should just trade them pick. It would likely unlock more value.
  2. I think the length of their contracts is likely the reason why they are willing to even trade them in the first place (and not ask for Cozens). Hopefully they view them as potential longer-term rentals and know they wouldn’t be able to sign them. So, might as well get value for them.
  3. Do you think most experienced posters on this website would “get destroyed” in their first deal? I just don’t understand this logic. Getting “destroyed” likely is a function of the GMs underlying personality (is he anxious?, in love with things he doesn’t have?, have FOMO?, etc). At the end of the day, another team’s GM can’t force any trade on Adams. He will have the choice to counter or walk away.
  4. I agree with the current treatments, but I’m curious, why are you negative about the potential of vaccine? Multiple small P2 trials have already shown more than adequate antibody production, and P3 trial results should be back in 1-2 months. Most of these drug companies are already stockpiling doses as we speak. Will these antibodies persist beyond 2-3 months, I don’t know. But, even if they lessen the severity of a primary infection, any subsequent secondary infection will likely just be mild. This virus isn’t going anywhere, but the severity associated with a primary infection will.
  5. Pick is going to go to Pittsburg. They need a replacement for Crosby.
  6. New GMs are notorious for coming in and blowing stuff up. Just because. I’m talking about trading ROR kind of stuff.
  7. Doesn’t sound like fake news. Sounds like he gave his honest opinion. But, being the consummate politician he is, backtracked once he realized he insulted a whole region of his constituents.
  8. The other, more ominous scenario was that Botterill plans on drafting Johnson, for whatever non-analytical reason. He asks Nightengale for his analytics. Botterill then goes through and confirms his suspicions based on all the positive analytical data, while ignoring the negatives (because, after all, it’s just analytics).
  9. You mean we’ll be able to stop talking about The Trade?
  10. If true, that’s pretty damning. I can’t really fault him on the bridge burning (where I thought the owner’s words were a level higher in the unprofessionalism department). Great drama though. This is safe, clean fun.
  11. I live within 45 minutes of 2 MLB team stadiums. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t want them functioning. Yet, I’ve had some arguments (with relatives) on the merits of having a MLB team play in downtown Buffalo. I get the Buffalo mentality (lived there most of my life), but the Jays playing in Buffalo just isn’t worth it. These disagreements mostly have to do with politics. Nowadays, if someone says “up”, you must counter with “down”.
  12. What is happening today? edit. I see: https://www.wgrz.com/article/news/blue-jays-first-opponent-in-buffalo-dealing-with-covid-19-outbreak/71-aa0fd9c6-b666-4813-946c-1babb6cc0aa3
  13. It was a joke. They aren’t essential workers. It’s going to be a free for all. I’m sure this comes down to money. It always does.
  14. They’re “essential workers”.
  15. Here in Maryland, we closed our schools statewide on 3/12. NYC closed theirs on 3/16. I would classify that as a mistake that didn’t take any kind of special insight. NY is going to reopen schools if Covid test positivity results are less than 5% on a 14 day average. Maryland’s 7-day positivity rate is 4.69%. The 14 day rate is lower. That would qualify for reopening schools if we were in NY, but it’s been decided to go virtual for the 1st half of the year. Interestingly, our positivity rate of 4.69% earned us a travel ban to NY.
  16. And just think, Maryland and Pennsylvania rejected these games due to increased transmission risk. Forgot Canada too.
  17. Hotels must be ecstatic. That said, Buffalo will now have large groups of people from all over the US. To think they won’t be breaking quarantine would be naive. Shock Cuomo allowed this actually.
  18. That and also there has probably been a much greater urgency in getting every possible person immunized against the flu. We are about to see this here in the next couple months...but then again, people in the US may think getting a flu shot is restricting their freedom.
  19. Johnson has a $5M cap hit for the next 4 seasons. Taking on players like him has never worked out for us. If we were ever going to relieve TB of this problem, a great asset(s) has to be coming along with him. That said, I’m sure there will be at least 1 GM of a bottom feeder that will take him off their hands. This is how bottom feeders stay bottom feeders.
  20. The issue is that he was the one that created the problem in the first place. All those players coming off the books (except Bogo), he’s the one that gave them a spot on the team. Instead of actively trying to fix his problem, he used tincture of time (and the hope that players would lose their passion for hockey) to fix his problem.
  21. When I think of hard to play against, I think of Barnaby smiling with his mouth full of metal teeth. That team was a bitch to play against. When they weren’t grinding you down, they were eff’ing with you. And it was constant.
  22. Shocking. But, it makes sense for them to be playing in another MLB stadium while the “home” team is away.
  23. Dude’s a scum based on those comments. But he does have a point about Weir and why he was terminated. This issue may come down to what exactly was documented in his termination. Was it due to him speaking openly about his sexual desires or was it due to classless behavior? One last thing. I remember when I was in middle school, I traded a Jeremy Roenick rookie card for an Ed Belfour rookie card. Bad trade?
  24. Nice analyst. But, you’re missing the biggest factor. Don’t forget the pull ups! Zero, zilch, nada. It was all downhill from there on in. Seriously, the hockey combine may be a joke, but why not prepare? I see dudes as big as he was doing pull ups at the gym all the time (or used to :()
  25. I will say this though, in terms of double standards, the mods around here are tolerable. Go on to the Bills message board for awhile, then come back. It’s like a breath of fresh air. I’ve never seen mods that are that vindictive and opinionated. Even though I may like the Bills more than the Sabres (who doesn’t right now?), I always come here for a dose of intelligence and reason.
